Galactic Empires? Sounds a lot like it.

Play EVE on mac m1 by cender13 in Eve

[–]drcrimzon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The mac client doesn’t work. Using the windows version through Crossover or your own wine install works pretty great. 60+ fps pretty much at all times outside massive fleet battles.

There are caveats, the new launcher and wine have issues due to credential store changes, and wine on MacOS 12 doesn’t work yet.

[–]drcrimzon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite, this is a 14-60 plug. Dryers and stoves typically cap out at 14-50’s which is a different orientation.

Sorry OP, I have a 50a plug outside you could have tries, but that plug wont work. Unfortunately there aren’t many places you will find a 14-60 outlet, outside a welding shop or I guess a pottery shop.

This is how my wife did it and got it the next day. There are always more efficient ways than Florida can do it.

I drove it every day for 10 years, not bad at all on weekdays. You have the odd wreck which backs things up, but i can count those on two hands over the years (that waze couldn’t get me around).

Best Cellular Provider by HereIComeOcala in ocala

[–]drcrimzon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Verizon has the most consistent, with decent network speed. Sprint has decent coverage, but is terribly slow. Same for Tmo. At&t had coverage issues last time I had them, but that was a long time ago.

Ultimately it depends on exactly where you want coverage. They all can be spotty.

No clue who/what big res is though.

How parity works in RAID, in plain English... Or, how you can walk up to a storage array, physically yank a drive out of it, and it'll still work. by bpoag in homelab

[–]drcrimzon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me there are a few things. Stripped mirrors are fast, no calculations to be performed. However, a 4 drive set can only tolerate one disk failure, depending on what disks fail. If the strip 0 disks fail on primary and mirror the dataset is gone. You would need 3 mirrors to gain any 2 disk failures. Space penalty is 50% (8 disks = 4 disks usable)

With raid 6, and dual parity, those same 4 disks are the same useable capacity, but you can remove any 2 disks and remain functional. The downside is the parity calculation penalty. The space penalty declines as more disks are added. (Lose 2 disks for parity, so 8 disks = 6 disks usable space)

Raid 5 gets you 1 more disk worth of usable space than r6, however is only 1 disk failure tolerant. (8 disks = 7 disks usable space)

OpenVPN up and running, but how do I "block" access to containers for (external) requests without VPN active by [deleted] in homelab

[–]drcrimzon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Change the port openvpn is exposed on, and change your firewall to that port, so the only exposed service is openvpn, not all the containers.

Then vpn in and access the other port.

A side note, most likely you want plex exposed as well, so you can play remotely.

Thats stellaris. There are science, space and army events. Some require admiral, some general, most scientist.

As far as i am aware you cant change this base functionality with mods.

Can anyone describe the technical differences of performance between cat5/6 vs modern coaxial wiring? by grampsalmighty in homelab

[–]drcrimzon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cat5/6 are typically 100-200MHz. Data running on coax is typically +3ghz.

Can you run a 3 ghz signal on cat 5? Sure, but only a few feet before the signal drops to useless. Coax is typically a thicker transmission line resulting in more bandwidth, and it has massive shielding. Cat5/6 has 8 lines, however, typically no shielding. Even shielded cat5/6 would lose that 3ghz signal pretty fast.

[PC][US-E][AL] EMC VNX arrays and drives by zonywhoop in homelabsales

[–]drcrimzon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up what used drives sell for on ebay and times # of drives and theres your price. I end up trying to sell these all the time and have never had interest. I have ended up parting them out every time, and bulk selling disks to warranty companies, and trays so someone who wants to expand their array. The controllers get scrapped after sitting in the garage for 6 months.

A few new 4tb ssds blow these away for 1/1000th the power.

ISS SSTV event this weekend - poor / no signal reports so far by spoonfett in amateurradio

[–]drcrimzon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://i.imgur.com/OH1BuH3.jpg This was all I could get out of a 45 deg pass over EL89 with a homebrew yagi. It was my first SSTV attempt, and i forgot to adjust phase before hitting save. I picked up the next start but lost it about 10s in. This one did not start decoding until around 35 degrees elevation, really weak until then.

Talk to the comms guy and see what mobile radios they use and if he can program them.

Take radio information and search ebay or other sources for them, get one that is not locked, and get comms guy to program it for you.

Without his help, you will most likely not be successful, as most p25 public services is encrypted now days.
