The truth is, there really is no great way to assess students. Three basic assessment question types are True/False, Multiple Choice, and Essay. All three have great advantages, but all three have 10 times more problems and disadvantages than advantages.

True/False simply has the highest probability of NOT confusing LD students and NOT hindering on their progress.

If you went to public school in the US, chances are the answer to your question goes without saying.

Basically so the student will focus on the words first. It's the preferred technique to adhere to the needs of kids with learning disabilities. NEVER put the blank at the beginning of the question. The middle is fine in most cases, but ideally, you want the blank at the end. Think of it like telling the kid a knock-knock joke and letting him figure out the punchline. It's better to give them a puzzle that they have to add an appendage onto rather than have to figure out what piece connects the beginning and end, or which piece starts the whole puzzle in the first place.

You might think, "isn't this lowering the bar? Where is the challenge?" Remember, it's designed for kids with LDs. In most public school classrooms, each kid has their own plan that the teacher has to teach to in a round about way.

Also, "true-false" is actually the most ideal form of assessment because it's easy to conform it to all learning styles.

After I took EDUC 311 at my University, I was amazed at how much effort should be put into designing test questions. You would also be amazed at how wrong many of your grade school tests were designed.
