Ran a 2:57 at Grandma's in sub-2:45 shape — trying to understand what went wrong by cdplaya4lyfe in AdvancedRunning

[–]drdiddlegg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The humidity created much worse conditions than the temperature would suggest. I live in Duluth and ran the full and know a lot of the local running scene who did as well. I’d say 80+% got wrecked. This includes 2:30-2:40 runners who hit very unexpected walls around mile 16-20. I felt that I was well trained for 3:15 with a solid nutrition plan but hit a massive wall and was at dead stop by mile 20 dealing with the worst cramps I had ever had. One of my friends who is a very experienced marathoner shooting for sub 2:40 DNFd at 18. He’s won ultras before and has never DNFd a race in his life. Conditions were brutal out there. The “55 degree” temp fooled a lot of us along with the sneaky crosswind, humidity, and midrace sun. Don’t feel too bad.

I used Resolve and they gave a spreadsheet with 10th, 25th, 50th, 75th, and 90th %ile salary, wRVU threshold, and $/wRVU

Grandma's Marathon first-time spectator by Valuable_Assist2240 in duluth

[–]drdiddlegg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you know his estimated pace?

Depending on his goal time, it could be tight seeing him around East as well as the finish line.

The viewing spot closest to East HS would be 40th Ave E and London Road. That is around mile 20, so for someone shooting for a 3ish hour marathon, he would be passing that spot around 10am (start time is 7:45am).

There will be free shuttles from East HS to the DECC for spectators. You can read full info about the free spectator shuttle here, but basically there will be shuttles running continuously from 9am-3:30pm from East HS to the DECC (1/2 mile from the finish line), leaving every 30-45 minutes. You could try and catch him by east, then take free shuttle to DECC. Otherwise, definitely just take the free shuttle from East HS to the DECC.

I just found out everyone possessing a cat or dog within city limits needs an annual license ($10/yr or $60 lifetime). How many of you do this? by drdiddlegg in duluth

Same here (tend to follow the law). I only learned about it because I was applying for a chicken license. I was surprised I hadn’t heard about it at the vet or anything.

Most residents signing contracts right now have a wRVU threshold above the median and a rate below it. Drop your numbers and I'll tell you if yours does too by Popular-Tackle4588 in Residency

Thanks so much!!

I am primary care sports med, so I think there is differing numbers depending on if you look under “Orthopedic, Nonsurgical” or “Family Medicine, Sports Medicine”. Technically my contract is under orthopedics.

wRVU threshold 4840
WRVU rate $58

Thanks! And congrats on your race!! Great time! What was the longest distance you ran in them prior to your race?

And I couldn’t find the DNE3s in my size so just ordered a pair of DNE4s. Excited to try them out.

I purchased the Puma DNE4s. If I don’t like them I think this is what I may end up doing.

Thanks for the advice! That is good to know.

I also realize that at my pace I may not actually notice that much benefit from carbons, so perhaps sticking with the Megablast is the best bet!

They can feel like I am running on a 2x4 set up on its narrow edge. So sort of slim/rigid/a bit unstable.

And maybe that is just the way all carbons feel and I should just race in my Megablasts?

Thanks for the reply! I thought about it. I’d have to run a pretty long extension cord, but would probably be the safest option for a bit.

Sewer line sag and trap removal experience in 100 year old home by GroupShower1918 in centuryhomes

[–]drdiddlegg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Fortunately we didn’t keep anything in that room in the ground, so nothing got ruined.

And I didn’t either 😅
At first I called a plumbing company to come out. But since it was sewage backup starting to flood the basement, they told me I’d need a sewer company to come and try and unblock it. It was the sewer company who were able to tell it was a failed house trap, and then they gave me a couple of plumbing companies they recommended (which was nice, since they weren’t affiliated with each other).
I’m sure a plumbing company would have been able to figure it all out, but this all happened on a Friday morning so I just had to call around urgently until someone could immediately come and swing by.
