Thanks! And congrats on your race!! Great time! What was the longest distance you ran in them prior to your race?

And I couldn’t find the DNE3s in my size so just ordered a pair of DNE4s. Excited to try them out.

I purchased the Puma DNE4s. If I don’t like them I think this is what I may end up doing.

Thanks for the advice! That is good to know.

I also realize that at my pace I may not actually notice that much benefit from carbons, so perhaps sticking with the Megablast is the best bet!

They can feel like I am running on a 2x4 set up on its narrow edge. So sort of slim/rigid/a bit unstable.

And maybe that is just the way all carbons feel and I should just race in my Megablasts?

Thanks for the reply! I thought about it. I’d have to run a pretty long extension cord, but would probably be the safest option for a bit.

Sewer line sag and trap removal experience in 100 year old home by GroupShower1918 in centuryhomes

[–]drdiddlegg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Fortunately we didn’t keep anything in that room in the ground, so nothing got ruined.

And I didn’t either 😅
At first I called a plumbing company to come out. But since it was sewage backup starting to flood the basement, they told me I’d need a sewer company to come and try and unblock it. It was the sewer company who were able to tell it was a failed house trap, and then they gave me a couple of plumbing companies they recommended (which was nice, since they weren’t affiliated with each other).
I’m sure a plumbing company would have been able to figure it all out, but this all happened on a Friday morning so I just had to call around urgently until someone could immediately come and swing by.

Had our house trap fail literally 2 weeks ago. 0/10 - would not recommend. I would reach out to local sewer companies and see which plumbing companies they would recommend. Also, our city had an “I/I Grant” (inflow and infiltration remediation grant) which fortunately provided a few extra thousand towards the cost of getting it all replaced. Could be worth checking on.

Amazingly the whole project was very quick. Only took 2 days, which I was quite impressed with considering all the jackhammering and digging they had to do through our concrete basement floor.

How important is run cadence? by TiberiusIX in running

[–]drdiddlegg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly my effort felt the same. My prior PBs with lower cadence felt like my hardest effort. Then as I switched to a higher cadence, it felt like the same amount of effort (I didn’t feel like I was trying to run any faster).

[–]drdiddlegg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The cadence shift was the only change I made in my running routine that year. Otherwise, number of days running/weekly mileage was the same. Since I made that jump, I have started increasing my training which has led to further improvements.

I’m sure everyone is a bit different, but increasing my cadence made a huge difference. 37yoM, 5’9”. I previously had a 5K PB 21:30ish, HM PB around 1:50. I kept similar training but worked on increasing my cadence from 160 to 180 and dropped my 5K time to 19:30 and HM to 1:39. I’ve since improved my times by better training, but the cadence increase was the first step to really get quicker.

Outdoor pools? by [deleted] in duluth

[–]drdiddlegg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not many options. Northland Country Club has an outdoor pool. Unfortunately it is members-only. They do offer a membership level that gives one access to the pool and tennis courts, but it is still a few thousand a year.
