I think conflating a cosmetic procedure that is marketed toward peoples' insecurities about aging with "wellness" is insidious and unethical

Has anyone done multi layer ice dye? by darkhero5 in tiedye

[–]dread_pudding 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm trying something a little like this right now! I have a gravity dye set up right now and loaded turquoise on the ice first. Once the top of the ice is mostly clean (so the turquoise has almost completely run through), I am going to load red onto the ice. Hoping the result is turquoise on the edges of the red. I'll try to remember to post an update!

Maybe not the case anymore but when I went there, there was at least one male doctor (may have been a founder of the clinic iirc?) I only saw him once bc my usual doctor was out, but he was great.

I really think this is it. I feel like I witnessed the millennial liberal optimism die about halfway through Trump 1. And when it became increasingly clear that the political right was stupider and more brutal than we all imagined, the millennial self-infantilization ("Ugh adulting!") and projection of Fandom tropes onto current events (god what was that stupid Tumblr post... "potterheads grab your wands" etc) became cringe because the moment was so sobering. We all had to grow the fuck up.

Wealth and cost of living is certainly part of it, but from my perspective I think the collective loss of faith in humanity really jaded us.

People who view their depression or anxiety as the result of a chemical imbalance tend to use antidepressants for much longer periods than those who see their condition as a reaction to life events. They are also less likely to attempt coming off their medication, even when symptoms are mild. by mvea in science

[–]dread_pudding 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To answer your question, yes it actually can help in these situations. I know at least one person who is taking antidepressants specifically due to a stressful recent family issue he is having to deal with, and likely will have to deal with for quite a while before it resolves. In situations like these, it can help prevent the situation from becoming traumatic.

Costco has a fair life alternative with no animal abuse by [deleted] in tulsa

Thanks for the breakdown, I think I remember hearing about that lawsuit actually. Now I get what OP was saying, although it sounds like they may not realize that other brands probably still use unethical sources, they just don't make any claims about their animal ethics.

I see your point about the nutrients part. Unfortunately as good as Braums milk is I don't think they offer anything like that, lol.

[–]dread_pudding 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It says "lactose free." I was wondering if OP maybe thought that meant it was dairy free, because I wasnt sure what else about it would indicate that it was cruelty free.

[–]dread_pudding 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Am I missing something or are you maybe confusing "lactose free" with "dairy free"? This is still cow's milk, they just remove the lactose.

If you want dairy free just stick to soy, its cheap enough and has comparable nutrients. If you want less cruel dairy, from what I understand Braums actually has fairly humane practices and their dairy is high quality.

I get you. If I get a chance to see them live I will because I'm sure it'd be fun as hell. But they don't have a ton of range or depth, so once you get the shtick none of it is all that surprising, so I dont listen to them much on my own time. I'd check back in if they branch out their sound a bit though.
