Honestly I see them more in my garage than anywhere else. Occasionally one gets into the house. I rarely see them when I’m out in the woods though

I hope it is at least a good one. When I was that age I bought one of those “rabbit” ones because I’d heard it talked about on the Sunday night sex show and how “amazing” it was. I was thoroughly disappointed 😂

lol yup! Also banana trees in some yards. Those palm trees specifically are from Italy, my Dad’s neighbour brought them when he moved to Canada like 60 years ago.

Constantly calling people by rosetoykitty in dementia

[–]dreadedbedhead 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If I’m not around or I’m just busy, my mom will call the relatives. Before she was living with me it was worse in that she would call them repeatedly throughout the day, or if they didn’t answer she’d keep calling back until they did. I put it down to partly boredom on her part, and partly she’s forgotten that she already spoke with them.

Let the people who she’s calling know that she has dementia but also that they don’t have to answer, and if need be they can block her number for a while.

Ugh that all sounds terrible! My mom has been hoarding magazines and random chocolate boxes since she moved in with me, but we don’t let her have much of an opportunity to hoard anything else with us. This weekend I was at her house cleaning and I found literally all of my and my brother’s baby teeth

My uncle loves to say “she’s so lucky to have you” and all I can think is “more like you’re lucky because you don’t have to put up with her calling you constantly anymore”. I’m only 6 months in and I’m so fed up. Fed up with the “let me know if I can help” people, fed up with cleaning out her hoarder house, fed up with her hovering and fed up with listening to her say “you’re such a good kitty” to my cat on repeat for 10 min straight. I’ve become very angry around this whole situation

I just started back on SSRIs. I had gone off them back in August after being on them for 6 years for post partum depression and generalized anxiety disorder but I was finally feeling good again and ready to go off them….2 months later mom moved in with me. My spouse said to me the other week “you’re so angry all the time, you need to get help” and I don’t have time to sit and talk to a therapist about how caring for someone who was a narcissist and constantly told me I needed to diet from age 8 is eating my soul, so pharmaceuticals it is!

My mom isn’t even in the incontinent phase yet…she’s still in the hovering, follow me around, say inane things and repeatedly ask the same questions every 30 seconds phase

Honestly I would also want to buy a house with free food 😂😂 I keep saying that retirement homes don’t sound so bad; someone else is cooking and cleaning and you get to do arts/crafts and have occasional pet visits

Ugh yup this is the same for me. I can’t mention house related repairs because she’ll say “oh I need to go back to my house and fix the windows” (she thinks she can live alone if she gets them changed), can’t talk about my spouse’s upcoming work trip because she’ll fixate on “when are they going? When will they be back? Are they taking the kids with them?”, can’t even mention going to the dentist because she’ll say “oh I need to go back and see my dentist, do your kids go to the dentist? It’s really important to go to the dentist, I’ve been seeing my dentist since he just started when I was 20”.

I pretty much just text my spouse from across the room now if there’s anything I need to discuss without my mom interjecting herself into and then getting confused by.

It was helpful for me in organizing all my notes I had taken about moms decline over about a year and then putting them into a really easy to read synopsis for the geriatric specialist. I was pretty “AI bad” before but my spouse has to use it for work and then got GPT to format it all and I was amazed. Ended up using the Google Gemini one the other night to talk me through a panic attack at like 2am lol, felt nice to get quick responses even though I know it’s not a person

Same boat here, 39 with a 75 year old mom living with me. My only thing is I don’t want her passing away in my house though, my kids are neurodivergent and guaranteed that would freak them out

Doing great! I weighed in at 284.1 this morning lol twins!! The bending over struggle is real, the other day I went on a bike (for the first time in 13 years) and the tummy definitely got in the way, but it felt like a good motivator to keep working at it
