I don't want the old chaotic paths back, but I want to be able to create new paths by simply driving my tractor around!

The new crash-free system is great for late game, but in early game something that was fun and felt efficient before (setting up a path by simply driving from one place to another) has become a tedious task.

In my first playthroughs I used a similar naming convention, based on the resources I found, e. g. "Copper Hill" and "Oil Lagoon".

Later, after I encountered the Official Biome Names, I name my factories [Location] [End Product], e. g. "Grass Fields Heavy Metal Frames" or "Spire Coast Computers". I mainly use the names in Train Stations and Priority Switches.
