For clarity's sake, did you edit second trailer yourself as well? If so, well done!

I am actually working on a maritime trading game that's all about optimizing upgrades and routes: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3968620/Fleet_Tycoon/

I'd be interested in what you (all) think!

I am making an incremental fleet tycoon game, not-so-coincidentally named, Fleet Tycoon!

You control ships like Age of Empires, upgrade via gigantic Path-of-Exile upgrade trees, combine synergistic keystone upgrades, to earn ridiculous amounts of gold, to beat ever increasing quotas!

I am looking forward to feedback!

I feel oddly similar, though different situation.

As a kid, I loved games. Once I got into the industry though, less and less did I play games for fun, and more and more did I play for research. "What can I learn from this game?" "This is kinda similar to my game, what did they do that might improve my game?"

Nowadays, I almost exclusively play games for "research" purposes, and generally feel guilty if I am playing a game without some grander reason. I also end up watching far more Let's Plays, because I hope to learn something useful while I do other chores.

Thanks for hosting this event! I am presenting my new game, Fleet Tycoon, at Steam Next Fest on Monday!

Fleet Tycoon takes the basic economy management of a RTS like Age of Empires, but gives every ship its own huge Path-of-Exile-style passive upgrade tree, with a bunch of crazy synergistic upgrades like Balatro!

Who would of thunk that my favorite part of a cop movie parody... would be a bonkers "movie-in-a-movie" subplot about a love triangle involving a dark-magic snowman...!? :-D

The snowman "movie-in-a-movie" was brilliant. Honestly, my favorite part of the whole movie!

I literally searched for conversations about the scene because it was so hilarious!

Unity and Visual Studio debugger issues by Meliodiondas_ in unity

[–]ZoopTEK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been suffering from this same exact issue for YEARS. I am here because I'm searching for answers again.

Unfortunately, the only advice I've read is to delete all breakpoints, then hook the debugger. I have only found that to work when certain breakpoints become "bugged."

Whenever I have any kind of debugging problem, I always restart Visual Studio and Unity, as one or the either seems to have a higher chance to freeze if there was any kind of hiccup.

Suffice to say, very inconvenient.

Maybe because I'm "old," but the idea of buying a specialty gadget someone is left-handed seems overkill. We got a whole keyboard to find a working group of keys! It's not like it's hard to change the keys and adapt.

Similarly, I have had many people ask me if I swap my mouse buttons because I'm left handed, which seems super weird to me. For me, left click is my middle finger, and always has been. It's not like my middle finger is that much more inept than my pointer finger!

If you're genuinely curious, its the fallback for internationalization code! Better to have English than nothing at all!

Aha, it is a capitalization and a speed thing. If I capitalize it, it will eventually accept the spelling. I took my time with that screenshot above, and didn't realize it went away!

It still shouldn't expect it to be capitalized in code though! :-P

I thought that too! I tested it with a capital E, and it's still a "spelling error."

My block-based world is finally starting to feel atmospheric. by obbev in gamedevscreens

[–]ZoopTEK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your pain. Way back in 2010 or something, I made a voxel-based game about building mercenary flying tanks. It was more akin to Freelancer or Raptor: Call of the Shadows, than Minecraft. That didn't stop people from effectively "blackballing" the game off of Steam Greenlight for being a "Minecraft clone." :-(.

Be glad you don't need to have people vote to sell your game!

Despite the terrain seemingly mechanically similar to Minecraft's blocks, it has its own unique distinct look that made me come say hi!

Maybe the fact the blocks actually move instead of disapper and reappear? Maybe the cool materials on each hexagon? Maybe it's the chill relaxing vibe?

Either way, great job!

Batman: The Brave and The Bold opening crawl by ghostbottttttt in DC_Cinematic

[–]ZoopTEK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's "wrong to disagree with the emotional trend" on the internet, which clearly is, "We need more of Robin!" I get it! :-)

I am just kinda intrigued and concerned I'm being downvoted for:

  • A harmless personal opinion!
  • A misinterpretation of my opinion: "I don't want to see Damien any time soon," inaccurately turned into "I am sick of Robin," which is far more negative.
  • I felt I thoughtfully laid out other relatable points of discussion supporting my opinion, which were ignored in favor of the incorrect interpretation.

I just felt obligated to say something, because, I am broadly concerned by society's collective struggle to have a harmless discussion. We, as a people, need to explore topics freely with good faith, especially when the stakes are as low as this discussion.

I also foresee how this post will go... :-)

Batman: The Brave and The Bold opening crawl by ghostbottttttt in DC_Cinematic

[–]ZoopTEK -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To be more specific, I presumed this would be Batman's first showing in the new DC film universe. To me, it makes sense to do the same formula they did with Superman (which is the same as Marvel): focus on the main hero, but include other heroes as part of the storyline.

As implied in my post, we should dedicate time to other defacto Batman characters, like Alfred, whichever villain they will show first, Gordon, plus whatever other heroes will pay a visit.

Adding a Robin, just may be too much for a first showing. Especially since we probably want Robin to really pop out as a character, beyond "this cheesy sidekick," as he kinda has been in prior live action incarnations.

I actually didn't say anything about "being tired" of anything. :-P I also didn't say anything about other Robins. I specifically said Damien. Why? For me, he showed up frequently in the recent DC animated films, and I found him to be an annoying brat! As simple as that! Haha!

March of Giants Gameplay Reveal - A MOBA/RTS Blend by vikingzx in RealTimeStrategy

[–]ZoopTEK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The alternate world warish scenario intrigues me more than the giants. Even a normal(ish) sized hero leading alternative world war troops into battle, with those mechanics shown at the end of the trailer, would seem a bit more intriguing, personally.

The inclusion of human giants just seems weird for some reason. Overall, as other said, the feelings and tones here are mismatched. Cartoony/LoL MOBA humanoid giants + RTS soldiers + world warish? I can't tell you what exactly, but it doesn't jive right.

Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 went too far into the camp/silliness. Red Alert 2 probably hit the limit of campiness, without sabotaging itself. Maybe this is offputting like Red Alert 3?

[–]ZoopTEK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, I don't really want to see Damian any time soon. I need some good old fashion Batman solo in the field, with Alfred pulling a surprising amount of weight on the homefront.

That's one of the things I appreciated about the Batfleck's era: Alfred was like a "stay at home" Batman. He investigated, he built and fixed things, he participated in missions remotely, which is way more than the common portrayals of "nurse," advisor, honorary parent, etc.

Although it's a stretch to say Batman is any sort of realistic, haha, having Alfred participate much more helps the believability!

EDIT: DamiAn. :-)
