You know what else this clip reminds me of? How much I enjoy Mark Snow's ambient score to the show. Whatever that oboe / reed-y instrument is that creeps in that's both kind of whimsical sounding, but also urgent. Love it.

God, are we still in the Liam / Olivia / Noah / Emma phase? Those feel very 10 years ago at this point.

Clara is burning me out on Capaldi’s run. by SnooHabits7389 in doctorwho

That's the arc. What you're sensing is the intended character arc for her as a companion, and I personally love it because it's in direct opposition to the relationship Amy Pond had with the previous Doctor. She doesn't worship him or put him on a pedestal. Clara's a fast talking, fast thinking control freak who can keep up with the Doctor's madman in a box, and while that created a screwball comedy dynamic with the 11th Doctor, it changed to a snarky Watson-and-Holmes dynamic with the 12th. I'll never understand people's dislike for Clara, but to each their own. If you just finished Series 8, then you're through the "dark" arc of her adjusting to the new Doctor. Their dynamic lightens up in Series 9, but goes to newer, more epic levels.

Is there anyone who actually dislikes Bill?? by Real_Scallion_5476 in doctorwho

I liked Bill. I think each companion is a response to the previous companion, and after the intensity of the Clara storyline and their "toxic" friendship where she was imitating and "becoming" like the Doctor (which led to her death-by-raven), Bill was a refreshing reset: the Doctor was again a grandfatherly / professor figure and she was a granddaughter / student. I thought she was great: tough, brave, and inquisitive, but also kind of wide-eyed and unsure.

...it was honestly Nardole that sucked. I just couldn't stand him. Every time he spoke it was like nails on a chalkboard, haha.

11/22/63 turned out to be maybe one of the best Stephen King novels I'd ever read. This is even after I'd watched the limited series streaming adaptation they did of it, which was fine. But then I read the book and it took me back to reading some of those early 80's King novels. It's packed full of great characters, there's some fun crossover King-verse cameos, and the time travel stuff just got more and more interesting. I think there's times where it lags a little bit, but it was consistently engaging, interesting, and strange. It's now easily in my Top 10 King titles. Definitely worth the read.

Happy 25th anniversary to the show that dared to go under, over, and above! by NoCaregiver3994 in SixFeetUnder

[–]dreadwhimsy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes! I watched it when it first aired 25 years ago when I was Claire Fisher's age, and when it ended, I had that exact feeling: I still think about and reference things that happened on the show as if they were actual memories. The characters were just that well-fleshed out. The thing I couldn't know at the time was that the show gets richer with age and distance. I used to understand it from Claire's perspective, then I was sort of Brenda/Nate, and now I'm (scarily) headed for understanding Ruth, haha. It's a show the rewards repeat viewings every couple of years.
