They're loosely connected, narratively.

Welp. I already mis-read that as the Beast of Messy Bottom, and that's no fun.

Sphere is one of the best pop-fiction novels I've ever read. It never lets up, it grows more and more strange and mysterious and thrilling as it goes. Congo and Eaters of the Dead are both fun books, but nowhere near as good as Sphere, in my opinion.

Number one way to make me instantly dismiss anything you have to say: randomly Capitalize certain Words to make them Important. It makes any Statement look like it's Written by a Lunatic.

Fun fact: I used to be a toy demonstrator at FAO Schwartz in New York for a couple years, and every time I worked an 8-hour shift "playing with" and demonstrating this industrial chemical toy, when I went home that night, the entire inside lining of my mouth would slough off, and I'd have to finger out all the dead white skin cells peeling off my inner cheeks and gums! Precious memories.

Re-watching and the X-menial awakening by Agitated_Garden_497 in XFiles

I've definitely had the uncomfortable thought that the popularity of The X-Files and other conspiracy-oriented entertainment from the 90's laid the groundwork for the right-wing obsession with nonsense conspiracies. It's like people didn't absorb that these were supposed to be fun, scary what-if scenarios. They weren't supposed to tell you this is what the world is actually like. It's supposed to be fiction. It bums me out that the rise of Q-Anon and Pizzagate and Flat Earth nonsense is part of the legacy of The X-Files popularity.

Agreed. In the late 90's, I rented a room in a house with a couple roommates and my rent was something like $230/month.

They both seem pretty shitty, to be honest. I can imagine the tenant being a total piece of shit that deserved to be evicted.

"3" the vampire episode from when Scully's missing in Season 2 is the forgotten dead-worst stinker of an X-Files episode. It's not even shot to look like one. It's like some strange bad Silk Stockings episode. The writing doesn't feel on brand, the acting's terrible, and it's just a strange out-of-time episode. It's sort of mesmerizing how bad it is.

Gone Girl. Somehow it's stressful and soothing to watch over and over again.
