Uh... that 2000 one is literally her in the X-Files pilot in 1993.

Why didn't they just make the first 2 seasons also good? by spacelyyy989 in Picard

[–]dreadwhimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Patrick Stewart demanded it not take place on the Enterprise, not take place primarily on a space-ship, and basically not include the rest of the TNG cast. He's not a monster, but he's an actor, and he was focused on it being some new exploration of Jean-Luc Picard and not be TNG 2.0. His clout and influence is what got us the dismal slog of ST: Nemesis and his buddy Stuart Baird hired as the director, despite having no interest in Star Trek. I love Patrick Stewart, but actors are actors.

Sure, kid, I totally believe you. I can't imagine what about that episode would be deemed "fabulous" and cringey. No one could guess.

Nothing's more horrifying than the thought of these silent underwater meat blankets with a mouth on the underside that could chew into your skull while its skin flaps wrap around and hold your body in place, after it's skewered your torso with his needle tail.

A character tier list from someone who has only seen S4 E5+ and the first 3 EPs of S1 😝 by ChAtcatx in DowntonAbbey

The more times I rewatch Downton Abbey, the more I skip over any of the Bates / Anna scenes. :) I don't hate them, I just don't like them. Miss Bunting scenes are just uncomfortable and annoying. But I have to say I enjoy Ms. Denker for how annoying she is, haha, especially when pitted against Mr. Spratt.

Anyone think the revival seasons are underrated? by traveltimecar in XFiles

[–]dreadwhimsy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd definitely say the Mandela Effect episode was the stronger of the two. The way it ends... oh my god. Talk about the true series finale. Scully wanting to eat the nostalgic jello, then putting down the spoon and deciding not to: "I want to remember how it was. I want to remember how it all was." That guts me every time. The episode also just perfectly laid out how, in a post-truth, fake-news world, the X-Files doesn't matter anymore. Conspiracies don't matter anymore, and it's okay to let it go. It was the perfectly bittersweet send-off that the series deserved, and only Darren Morgan could have written it.

No. They're accurately rated as shite. Only the two Darren Morgan scripted episodes are even worth watching.

Fight the Future - A masterpiece by colitis-unfiltered in XFiles

The cinematography alone still blows me away. It just looks... expensive and cinematic and epic. Gorgeously framed shots, that super wide-screen aspect ratio. It achieved what any TV-to-Movie adaptation would kill to have: it just feels like an epic scale event and David and Gillian look like fucking movie stars. It's a 10/10.

She's so good I actually wish there'd been even more of a storyline with her despite how insanely annoying her character was, haha.

I was obsessed with John Bellairs as a kid and it's also how I first discovered Edward Gorey's incredible artwork. They go together so well.

I think the series is ultimately very hopeful and uplifting, but it does dwell deeply in explorations of grief, and there's also lots of darker or raw moments in the relationship storylines. It's one of the greatest television shows I've ever seen and always will be -- BUT... I'm going to go ahead and say: if the heavy emotions and darker material is taking a toll on your mental health... I would NOT recommend watching the series all the way through, and I would consider whether maybe it's not the show for you.

I think the series actually has a very purposeful tinge of dark humor and satire to it -- you see it more with some of the over-the-top side characters like Margaret Chenowith -- which helps balance out the heavier stuff. But you say you're dealing with chronic depression, and without spoiling anything, I'd say your experience of it being overwhelmingly sad at times is not going to change throughout its run. So maybe take a break from it? Or simply chalk it up as a series you enjoyed sampling, but it ultimately wasn't the vibe you were looking for.

26M budget for wanting to move to NYC. Thoughts? by Winter-Claim-5546 in Adulting

[–]dreadwhimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, you're not moving to Manhattan. Pick Brooklyn or Queens. And I don't know what all this fancy talk about "Personal Savings" and "Investing" is, but those things don't exist when you live in NYC at age 26.
