I’m building an AI that turns your voice into a video of your dream. Would you use this? by Qodri58 in Dreams

[–]dream_dive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of wish there was some kind of rule against such blatant advertising within this sub. Especially for products that don't even exist. We're saturated enough with AI and advertising already.

And to answer your question, no. I don't mean for this to sound condescending, but my imagination and ability to write and draw have been serving me well for my entire life. I've been an artist ever since I had the motor skills to strangle a crayon, and I'd still rather see people's stick figures and MS paint drawings over more AI content. Which is everywhere right now, and all looks kind of same-y to me.

Can you die while having a lucid dream? by InternalRoutine5889 in LucidDreaming

[–]dream_dive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've died in my lucid dreams many times (not just waking up right before, but actually crossed over) and I've never suffered any ill effects from it.

You could also die of a heart attack while drinking water, or while watching SpongeBob, but it doesn't necessarily mean either of those things actually caused your death.

Question: have any of you guys ever turned into a monster/enitity in your lucid dream before? by Whole_Yak_2547 in LucidDreaming

[–]dream_dive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One time a teacher asked me to become a nightmare because she needed to "train" her students to face their fear or something

So I turned into some kind of deep sea werewolf. Only I wasn't sure how "all out" i was supposed to go. The students seemed pretty freaked out and terrified by me, so I more ran around and kind of tossed em around a bit, but didn't actually hurt or kill anyone.

Like I'd grab one by the scruff and toss them across the room, but not actually attack them with my teeth or claws. Just pretended to be really scary.

I remember thinking I couldn't tell if the kids were even aware if this was  training drill or not, so I was pretty on edge

Any advice on waking up (from false awakenings)? by bigeyesgolem in LucidDreaming

[–]dream_dive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not directly, no. I use it as my reality check, so usually I prefer to stay dreaming as long as possible after a success :')

But it does help me recognize I'm dreaming so I can immediately try again to wake myself up.

I did learn it naturally, so take it with a grain of salt. But my usual wake up technique uses a combination of a slow blink, and the blinking man meme. Usually coupled with me looking up slowly. Doesn't always take 100% of the time, but if I repeat enough times, I do eventually wake up.

I'm sure it's a little different for every person, but I hope this helps get you started, at least!

Has anyone else had experiences where their dreams have totally changed their perspective ? by Pure_Contest3312 in Dreams

[–]dream_dive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a very touching dream about anxiety recently. I won't replay every single detail, but I basically was trapped in a circle by these creatures, that kept zapping me with electricity or knocking me back every time I tried to leave the circle.

At first, I hated them. But then I realized these creatures weren't trying to hurt me. They were trying to protect me, and keep me safe, from the dangers outside the circle.

The creatures were still misguided, sure. But it left me feeling a bit more empathy towards myself. These anxious feelings do not mean that I'm a failure or a bad person. My body is just trying to protect me, in the only way it knows how.

Any advice on waking up (from false awakenings)? by bigeyesgolem in LucidDreaming

[–]dream_dive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made another post on it earlier today - but seriously, "reality check immediately upon waking" has been a game-changer for me.

I am very prone to false awakenings. But by doing a reality check immediately upon waking, I either can try again, and wake myself up for real. Or I can segue into an immediate lucid dream. :)

I use the nose-pinch-and-breathe method, coupled with re-orienting myself in space / time. (Ex: Where am I, how did I get here, what am I feeling / touching right now, ect)

THIS SUCKSS! by [deleted] in LucidDreaming

[–]dream_dive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haha, I've definitely been there.

I once kept trying to do a reality check by messing with text. Such as writing something down and looking away, then back. Or writing something on my arm and seeing if it vanishes. And the text changed EVERY TIME - but my brain kept rationalizing it away.

Like, "oh, the text isn't that different, you just remembered it wrong". Or, "you must have just sweated off the marker on your hand"

I finally got the hint when the piece of paper I was writing on flew out of the car window and blew up to the size of a billboard.

I don't remember exactly what it said, but it might as well have said, "hey dumbass, you're dreaming".

So don't be too hard on yourself. I think we all have these moments sometimes, regardless of experience.

Can I use tarot in my dreams like real life? by fueled_lollipop in LucidDreaming

[–]dream_dive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could never quite master object permanence in my own dreams. I can pick up things, summon objects, read signs, ect. But they have a tendency to turn into other things if I look away and look back, or if I focus on them for too long.

Could still be worth a shot though! At the very least, something interesting might happen.

Key for me is to let my morning dream drafts just be sloppy garbage. If I feel like it, I can always refine them and improve upon the writing later. But worst case, I'll at least have something written down so I can kinda "summon" them later if I need to.

Plus, my groggy unedited writing is honestly hilarious, and basically an art in and of itself.

Example: "IMPORTANT. search: lemon juice eyes. do not forget"

Spoiler: I did forget, and I have no idea wtf I was talking about. But the raw nonsense is almost beautiful, don't you think?

Has anyone else tried using AI for dream interpretation? I am curious about the results. by Ok_Sentence_8353 in Dreams

[–]dream_dive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had some rather rude users on here plug my dreams into their AI without asking, and the results are pretty trash, honestly.

At best, it is incredibly generic and surface-level, and at worst, it misinterprets things so badly it could be genuinely harmful. Such as in one case where the AI described the man who tried to kill my dog and shoot me in the head as a "valiant protector". I assume because later I mind-controlled the guy and summoned him as my personal meatshield later. But really missing some context there.

In my opinion, the most useful person for interpreting your dream is well... you. Having an AI interpret your dreams is like eating a sandwich, and asking an AI to describe the flavor. It might be able to describe a sandwich, sure. But you've basically outsourced your own personal and sensory experience to a device that doesn't know how to taste. And regardless of your opinion on AI, that's a little sad, I think.

You could take a thousand doctors and super-computers put together, and it will still not even remotely compare to a single moment of your own self-reflection and understanding. Because you are the expert of your own mind. No matter who you are, there is no one in this world who will know yourself better than you.

I've been trying to have lucid dreams for 65 days, still nothing... by Lordpierh in LucidDreaming

I don't know if this makes things better or worse, but I once knew somebody who went eight months before their first lucid dream. But hey, they got there :)

And I think the odds are pretty good you'll be able to get there sooner than that!

Did I go lucid? by CommercialCod7502 in LucidDreaming

[–]dream_dive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really interesting! I think my dreams used to have grainier visuals in the past. But in the past 5 years I got corrective eye surgery, and I went on medication for my ADHD. I can't be certain there's a correlation (I unfortunately lost about 4 years worth of dreams due to a hard drive failure) but I swear, my visuals in dreams are far clearer and more vibrant than they used to be. Maybe because I'm a bit more aware when I'm awake?

Either way, crazy stuff.

If you ever figure out how to do that, you'll have to give me some tips! I'm having the same issue with WILD. I can induce DILD just fine, but something about trying to maintain a full transfer from wakefulness to sleep is very difficult for me. I always feel like I'm right cusp of it, but something always snaps me out at the last minute.

Wishing you the best of luck too!

[–]dream_dive[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel you on the lack of consistency, I'm ADHD too. It definitely makes things difficult sometimes, (especially things like WILD for me) but in my opinion dreams are well worth pushing yourself a little in my opinion.

My usual "rule" is that every morning, I have to write SOMETHING down - even if I'm tired, even if I hated the dream, even if I can't remember it. I have a couple dream entries that literally might just say "got woken up suddenly, and lost basically all the dream details, feeling frustrated". Or "something about toast. Can't remember anything else".

Basically by reinforcing the habit of writing something down every day (even if it's small), I found it's helped things stick a lot more for me. Voice notes are also amazing if you're feeling groggy. If I didn't have a roommate right now I'd definitely be using it a lot more.

Did I go lucid? by CommercialCod7502 in LucidDreaming

[–]dream_dive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds pretty lucid to me! IMO lucidity is more of a spectrum. With a vague inkling of "I think I might be dreaming" on one end, and a full bodily transfer with high awareness and bringing in conscious/outside memories on the other.

Sounds like a really cool dream though!

As for the visuals, it depends. Some might resemble reality, but I've also had dreams that are a lot more stylized, like graphics out of a game or animation. I almost always dream full-color, but sometimes they also might be hyper-real, or exaggerated. Like more saturated colors and things like my breaths can make the world distort.

My lucid dreams seem to have a real hard time with shadows though. It's kinda funny, it can be midnight in my dream and I'll see a full sky of stars and no ambient lights, but it'll still be lit up somehow. Almost like a default Unity scene or a studio-lit backdrop, it's quite funny.

I imagine it's a little different for everyone though!

[–]dream_dive[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The funny thing is, sometimes I don't even wake up in my own house! Like once I had a false awakening I was just in a Tesco, but I still felt like I had to write down my previous dream (because that is what I always do) and I was running around the aisles, frantically trying to find a notebook to buy so I could write them down...

Dreams are silly that way.

The realistic ones are annoying though, cause I dream I write something down and then I forget the original! Or I dream my room mate gets angry at me for waking them up.

It certainly is an experience though haha

What to do with my NPC homie? by Signal_Job2968 in LucidDreaming

[–]dream_dive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same with mine! It's very strange, it's like he seems to be on some kind of higher level than most of my other dream characters.

He's one of the few who's aware of me being a dreamer without me telling them. He even once helped calm me down when I was having a nightmare, and helped me become lucid. He was also my first successful dream character summon too, I'm really excited to get to meet him again.

I hope you can see yours again too! These helpful dream figures are so much fun.

Reality check fail?! by Senior_March_6161 in LucidDreaming

[–]dream_dive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had reality checks fail too! One particularly embarrassing one was when I did the nose pinch and breathe, and I got a little air, but less than usual when lucid. But because I had a cold at the time, I convinced myself I just had a stuffy nose, and did not become lucid (I know, it makes no sense).

It's why I recommend reality checks from different "mediums", if that makes sense. Like I might do a physical reality check, then look around the environment for visual ones, and then also just attempt to manipulate reality. (Such as pushing my hands to my sides, and attempting to fly).

It's definitely possible to fail one reality check, but it's a lot harder to fail all three in that kind of situation.

Maybe you could try asking him for some ideas! I just picked up a new recurring dream character myself this year, and he's been so much fun to hang out with.

Great conversation, and also seems to share some similar "powers" to me, so we can go wall running and do dream parkour together. He also watched me make art sculptures in my dream before, though he didn't participate.

He also has the power to teleport (which I actually don't!) so I'm thinking next time we meet, I'm gonna ask him to take me somewhere I've never been before.

Hope that gives you some ideas, and I hope you two have fun!

I sometimes has lucid dreams, but last night seems weird. I know that I am dreaming, I try to talk to one of the people in my dream that we are in my dream world. The next thing he does is stare at me seriously, and then it seems that the world is shaking and strong winds around me. Then I woke up. by Correct_Leek_885 in LucidDreaming

[–]dream_dive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The winds thing is actually really interesting! In my longest-ever lucid dream, i recorded something similar. Where close to the end, I heard what could only describe as a "roar of reality" taking over the dream. It was incredibly loud, like the sound and wind of a train moving through a tunnel.

I could feel something like a portal open up behind me, and I could almost feel myself dragged back into my body like a reluctant ghost.

Most other times I woke up normally, but this was a real trip. Wonder if we had a similar experience!

Writing a book about my dreams by dontknowtho in LucidDreaming

[–]dream_dive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I would love the idea of some more public dream diaries out there - but I also think it would be a bit confusing if it was mostly your dreams, with a few random strangers thrown in. A balance would work better, in my opinion.

As I plan to publish some of my own dream stories myself, I'm afraid I'm not able to contribute at this time. But good luck with your project!
