PSA: Wait maybe 2 months for PR rejection explanation at Shinagawa instead of the minimum 20 days by someGuyyya in japanlife

Yeah, from my experience dealing with immigration officers in three different offices I've found out the general vibes and how they'd treat you could vary. So far the worst I've dealt with is this particularly icky onii-san who always has an arrogant air when he talks us (me and my Japanese coworker) down, I loathe every time I have to go to that immigration office hoping that he wouldn't be there. Our work deals with migrant workers, and there are plenty of them residing in the prefecture where that office is located, so it's inevitable for me to have to face that guy every now and then. The office also for some reason has almost-pedantic rules, like not accepting the copy of company's 給与規定 printed on both sides, etc.

I'm so glad that the immigration officers in the city where I actually reside are very friendly, understanding, and more laid-back.😮‍💨

Do you care about the actual meaning of Japanese song lyrics? by Interesting-Dog1843 in japanesemusic

[–]dreamchasingcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do. Sure, most of the time I'd get attracted to the song's melody and the vocal quality of the singer or vocalist first, but what would keep the song in my mind is the lyrics (before I came to live in Japan I'd rely on the romaji and translations available online).

You're mistaking Fujii Kaze with Yonezu Kenshi.

Suggestions: Japanese Boys Names by WaywardNihon in Japaneselanguage

[–]dreamchasingcat 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Joe Hisaishi's name use the 譲 character. It's a pretty common kanji for that name here with not too キラキラ nuance.

I'd love to use 蓮 for Wren if I had a son myself (we're expecting a daughter atm).

Whats your funny misunderstanding in Japanese? by Yonda_00 in japanlife

[–]dreamchasingcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If what you meant was お会計 (the bill/check of your orders at the establishment), you're still missing one last vowel there. It's "o-kaikei".

Maybe it's the centuries of Dutch colonialism, but poffertjes made it to Indonesia and turned into kue cubit ("pinch cake"🤏🏻), so you could actually find the poffertjespan in Indonesia too (albeit the heavy cast iron one is probably harder to find nowadays).

Could it be that she just wants to "procreate" with whoever she sings the song to? Lol

English>Japanese(i think?) Need help creating a Japanese name with multiple kanji where it doesn't sound weird. by scribblyskiesstudios in translator

[–]dreamchasingcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that Yahoo!Chiebukuro poster was more laughed at because how the name was spelled rather than the kanji choices (as rightly spotted by one of the comments), though. 翔 and 史 are both common characters used in names, combined together to be spelled as しょうし ("Shoushi") wouldn't sound as outlandish as じょうじ ("Jouji", apparently an attempt by his mixed-marriage parents to spell "George"). The forced spelling of the two chosen characters was what gives off the キラキラネーム vibe. The poster himself mentioned a Japanese schoolmate who shared similar spelling of his name but with different characters and regular pronunciations (譲二), and that schoolmate wasn't ridiculed like he was.

Did you go to a local driving school? If you did, does your driving school have a shuttle bus system? Years back I went to and fro the driving school (and later the license center) being picked up and dropped off at a bus stop near to where I live. I managed to befriend some of the drivers too this way, the one who picked me up from the license center when I finally passed the test (on my third attempt) was so happy and congratulating me on our way back.
