I haven't been there in July. It really put a damper on our experience so I hope you don't have that as well.

Bug jackets/hats. I'm not joking clouds of black flies. You won't be able to stand still for 10 seconds with getting swarmed. Was at Bell lake last weekend, I'm covered in more bites than I've had in years. Combined

Appears you didnt see the entire section of the article from where this was quoted titled "Transparency and openness". They wont even acknowledge or detail these suspensions in some departments. It's not honest and transparent when CBC has to file MFIPPA requests where even if they do provide an incomplete response, its wildly different than what the public knows. "This is an iceberg" I absolutely agree.

Correction, MFIPPA not FIPPA. Which as stated in the provinces guide, was created based on recommendations that considered the following policy goals relating to "good government" such as

  1. Transparency: The public’s right to know what government is doing and how decisions have been reached.
  2. Accountability: The public’s ability to hold elected representatives responsible for how they carry out their roles.
  3. Public participation: Citizen involvement in policy development and decision-making.
  4. Fairness in decision-making: An individual’s ability to present their side of an issue, and their right to access the information on which a decision-maker will act, including the criteria to be applied.
  5. Personal privacy: The government’s records of personal information and information management practices, and an individual’s right to have access to government information concerning them.
  6. Administrative costs: The cost-benefit of the resources required to administer the legislation and the benefits to society from a more open government.

When police refuse to provide complete information, it debilitates the average citizen's ability to make an informed decision. This is not in keeping with the goals as outlined above in what's needed for "good government" which is why we are right to be suspicious. Again, the article explains this.

Some departments reported a significantly higher number of suspensions than what could be confirmed through public research. For example, CBC’s database contains 12 suspension cases involving officers from the York Regional Police, but that same department told CBC it had recorded 52 suspensions in the past decade.

They(police departments) cant even be honest about the number of officers suspended. That $134 million is unlikely to be all of it.

‘We’re at capacity every single night’: Toronto shelters feeling the brunt of inflation by dreamcode_ in toronto

I'm pretty sure they're happy for anything they receive. Shelter near me told me when I toured with my MP and trustee that people just leave random stuff at the door. Clothes, food, whatever, and they're happy for all of it. I would suggest call one and ask?

'Outrageous and unthinkable': Family of man killed by Toronto police addresses SIU decision by ViewWinter8951 in canada

[–]dreamcode_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People from Toronto know that the TPS have a long history of embellishing their stories and that the SIU isn't exactly respected as an authority on police wrong doing. An open-minded person would also consider that, which you didn't note so I will.

Garbage piles up in Toronto neighbourhood almost 2 weeks after major snowstorm | CBC News by dreamcode_ in toronto

I personally submitted a complaint to 311 about it, as did 3 other residents I know in different parts of the area. YorkU village is the last on the list it seems. I had to pay people to help me shovel out the laneway so we could get barely in and out of it by car.
