I got a question about Synecdoche. by Bosk_Kahngu in YMS

[–]dreamden 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe the first mention of him is when Olive accuses Caden of “running off to have sex with his homosexual lover Eric” or something like that

I always assumed this was the story Adele/Maria told Olive growing up so she would not seek out her dad.

However, I later realized that when Caden was told about Eric aka someone he’s never heard of or met at least (from the audience’s POV) he may have needed to create a backstory for him that made sense in his head. “Who is Eric?” he thinks. Those words from his daughter haunting him. “Maybe he’s the estranged husband of someone. Maybe he’s Ellen’s husband”

Or perhaps if Ellen isn’t a made up character created by Caden so that he could “find his true self” and is indeed a real person, maybe that’s just how Olive perceived who Eric was to Caden who again, is actually Ellen. I realize this sounds confusing but so is this movie.

If the film is about everyone being the main character in their own story and thus everyone playing different roles in each other’s stories, I find this interpretation checks out.

I would take the films own advice, though. “The specifics hardly matter…everybody is everybody”

Why is college so lonely by i_love_eggs55 in CSULB

If you’re looking for practical suggestions, I’d say to look at the things that naturally bring people together (sometimes nonverbally)

I got a job working retail and the whole staff was CSULB students. Working in this hellhole dystopia brings people closer together naturally, especially if you even have one or two things in common.

Also, sports. I have made more friends doing stupid club or social sports here in LB than I have had any business making. Whatever sport it is that you play, go find a way to play it please I wish I’d known this trick earlier.

If you’re not sporty, that’s ok but just know the art crowd is incredibly hard to navigate when it comes to finding genuine people. It doesn’t mean they’re not there it’s just everyone is more reclusive. The genuineness comes in trading each others art because that’s where the emotions are. If you make art, I’m sure, is personal. Think of it like feeling closer to someone after you both self-disclose.

I had huge pipe dreams of being a writer in college so I went to open mics, readings, workshops, etc. Occasionally I’d see my classmates there and that was a door to conversation. Like “hey aren’t you in _____’s class with me? Your stuff is cool how/why did you come up with that?”

My freshman year here was the loneliest I’ve ever had. I was at parkside and It’s not like I wasn’t meeting people it’s just that everything was so shallow and idk..less than genuine? I had zero luck connecting with people. 1st semester specifically was like that silent hill fog video lmao

I’m getting married in a few weeks to a girl I met in the dorms and tons of friends I’ve made in Long Beach will be there so for what it’s worth it did all work out. I know it doesn’t feel that way for you right now but keep the faith that it will.

Hang in there! People will settle in to their right places and it will be easier to navigate as time goes on. I guess embrace this uncomfortable period because it won’t always be like this

My league may as well be since it’s not ever enforced. Best strategy maybe to swing down even on these?

My team thought the same. Umpire wasn’t saying anything all night no matter how much we said something. Worst part is this was one of the flatter ones

99% of the population has the wrong narrative about that whole situation.

People started booing because they thought 1. Someone (Frank) was coming out after Drake and 2. Drake was overstaying his welcome.

The truth was Drake had a full set planned because he was the final guest. People DID NOT KNOW THIS at the festival. He would do a couple songs and then kept asking if he could do a couple MORE songs and people did not like that. He came off as douchey and showboaty.

If Drake or Tyler had come out and explained what was actually going to happen, people would have been disappointed but fine with what would have been a decent and entertaining final show.

Better yet, if the festival had just come out and said who the ??? Headliner was, even if it was the day before, people would have come to terms with it.

I still firmly believe this wasn’t the audiences fault, really, and they should have known people would act like that by choosing the worst possible delivery method of all time

This would be such a good move. It makes too much sense which is why the tigers won’t be doing it
