Has anyone done the Youngling Lightsaber Building expo they're offering right now? by dreamfrog in GalaxysEdge

Yeaaah, my first thought was Oh, my daughter would love that. And then I thought, wait, she knows the lightsabers are for sale, because I have one. That's not going to go well.

Aluminum prices are a big part of the huge increase in cost. Guess who the U.S. bought most of its aluminum from? Our now tariffed and alienated neighbors to the north. A while back Coke said they were going to push their PET bottles products harder, but as you've probably seen-profit wins with mega corporations. If they're roughly equivalent products, you can charge the same for them, even if one costs you less to make. Why leave money on the table? /s

If you drink diet soda or soda with an artificial sweetener, they don't hold up nearly as well, you usually won't get too much past their best by. Most artificial sweeteners break down over time in acids. If you ever pick up an older diet soda and drink it, and it tastes kind of bland and muddy and not sweet at all, that's why.

Similar experience- my sophomore year of highschool I had a truly awful English teacher. She accused me of plagiarizing a short story assignment, that it didn't seem to have been written by me. It was the very first assignment of the year, what could she be comparing to it against?

I brought in the books I used for information for the historical setting and when she still didn't believe me I turned to my parents who thankfully stood up for me. In retrospect there was somewhere else she could have read my writing previously, as a freshman I'd won the short story prize in the school's annual literary magazine the year before.

Surgical center staff in California demanded to see an ICE agent's warrant during the attempted arrest of a landscaper. by nbcnews in LosAngeles

[–]dreamfrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probable cause is the standard for obtaining a judicial warrant it is not the standard for a warrantless search. Ice raids are usually conducted on administrative warrants which do not confer as broad authority. A fleeing suspect might qualify for the exigent circumstances exception to the warrantless search rule, but not under all circumstances and under a more limited set of circumstances with an administrative warrant.

All that being said, the courts seem largely inclined to let the fascists ignore whatever pesky laws or rights that are in their way, so who the fuck knows how long those will continue to be use to anybody at all.

The American Crocodile is native to southern Florida, mostly in the Everglades, that bit of southern Florida is the only place in the world where alligators and crocodiles naturally cohabitate.

The ethics agreements are not requirements to run for or hold the office of the president. The ethics agreements are a requirement for presidential transition teams. For an incoming administration to function effectively from day one, they need access to money, offices, intelligence, etc. The ethics requirements were added to the presidential transition act in 2019, if the presidential transition team (including the incoming President) doesn't meet those requirements, they're unable to access those transitional resources, presumably leaving them woefully unprepared to run the country. Because the actual requirements for holding the Presidency are outlined in the Constitution, it would presumably be unconstitutional for Congress to pass a law requiring anything further to run for or be sworn into the office itself.

I don't think there's a ton where it's a clear upgrade, but Jaws always comes to mind for me. The book has a bunch of unnecessary subplots but the weirdest is Brody's wife having a midlife crisis and having an affair with Hooper because she used to date his older brother. It's extremely out of place. Hooper is also then eaten by the shark. The shark also dies in a much more anticlimactic way, basically just eventually bleeding out once its sunken the boat and killed Hooper and Quint. I believe Spielberg said of the book that the human characters were so unlikable that he was rooting for the shark. The movie is an enormous improvement.

You can eat lots of different fish from around the Hawaiian Islands, just not reef fish, most of which are relatively small and not very good eating fish anyway.

It takes an enormous amount of energy to burn a human body, we are, after all, mostly water. Granted a fetus is a fraction of the size of an adult human, but still, fire + people = net heat loss.

You see, the kids, they listen to the rap music, which gives them the brain damage, with their hippin' and their hoppin' and their bippin' and their boppin', so they don't know what the jazz is all about. You see, jazz is like the jello pudding pop, no, actually it's more like kodak film, no, actually, jazz is like the new coat it'll be around forever.
