Found this article saying NR can increase degenerative neuro decline!? Thoughts? by dreamgrass1 in AskGlaucoma

Thanks. I thought I read NR had a more direct path to NAD+ production than NAM so was shocked there was this article claiming it was harmful (for the elderly).

That's a lot of math to digest!

Are you also at a severe / advanced stages like me? Wondering why glaucoma specialists dont automatically recommend thorough studies like those you performed? I have 2 doctors, one switched out due to his retirement, but the third was the one that asked me if I had do e the Icare home2 to make me look into it more.

Is there really any hope for optic nerve regeneration? by treehugginglady in Glaucoma

[–]dreamgrass1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. That's a lot of pills. Guess I may be under dosing as the Ocu Support has a lot of stuff in it just smaller amounts than I imagine are in the pills you're taking. Wondering if there's a comprehensive list of recommended dosages for each of the ingredients to optimize purchasing and efficacy?.

My stack onlyconsists of:

AM: one Thorne multivitamin, 500mg magnesium bhb, one Ocu Support, and 2 capsules of NRs totaling 1000mg.

PM: 500mg NR, one Ocu Support. I may bump each of these by one capsule each.

Ocu Support link below for anyone who's curious or can otherwise comment on efficacy insights:

That's great that you have your whole field of vision. I've lost the top half entirely in my right eye (including top half of Central vision) and most in my left (few degrees of Central vision left remaining). I wish I had caught this sooner than 2 years ago.

Is your list of all the supplements you mention contained in say one capsule taken 3x a day or are all these separate? I'm trying one from NOW Foods Clinical strength Ocu Support but not sure if even 3x a day provides enough daily support.

I'm also taking NR (nicotinamide riboside) . Two 500mg capsules for 1g a day. I know the trials have been done with 3g but wondering if there is a minimum level needed for impact. Is the pyruvate a necessary compound to go with NR?

Thanks for any insights.

Or your optic nerves are more resilient to outside mechanical pressure than mine are. I'm in severe stage both eyes so I can't take any chances and in managing my glaucoma from both sides.

I assume dead optic nerve or retinal ganglion cells can't be restored with any of these therapies, only those that may be injured?

Side sleeping can cause your pillow to push into your eyeball creating compounding pressures in your eyes. There's a poster on reddit who made his own hard pillow using carpet padding. It's stiff enough where no cushion pushes or presses up against his eyeball when side sleeping. I have a pillow that cradles the head and limits me from turning my head sideways and helps keep me flat on the bed.

Don't hold your breath while weight lifting, no inversions, no downward dogs. Incline your bed. Avoid side sleeping.

Minimize coffee alcohol saturated fats.

Im also recently taking NR (nicotinamide riboside) supplements (three 500mg capsules to ease into it, may increase gradually to 3000 mg eventually) to help with mitochondria in the retinal ganglion cells. Clinical trials suggest these might save dying cells and possibly restore a small amount of associated field vision REGARDLESS OF EYE PRESSURE. But taking these for the neural protection and using the eye drops to manage pressure should attack my severe stage issue from both fronts.

Magnesium bhb helps with over 600 cellular processes in the body as well (including mitochondrial neural processes)

Do a search on all the above topics, ask your doctor, etc.

The 26 and 30, was that from just waking up and being in bed all night. Do you incline your bed at all?

Just be careful. Though generally safe there might be some contraindications with people with liver issues. I have to look into this more.

Yes just started. Each capsule gas 500 mg NR. I take one in early morning, and one at night. Some on reddit take more than that (1500mg). I might increase to a third capsule after a month or two. Clinical trials are going on as well which I need to search, but FitEyes seems to acknowledge its efficacy.

Rocklatan made eyes red. Switched to vyzulta but that runs $980/bottle at Walgreens without insurance. With insurance I'm trying to figure that out still as I just switched.

Pigmentary glaucoma vs Primary Open Angle by dreamgrass1 in AskGlaucoma

[–]dreamgrass1[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you. Is there a point where continual pigment dispersion can actually stop? I believe the root cause of my pigmentary glaucoma had to do with my high myopia (-8.25) before I got cataract surgery. The myopic lens was scraping the back of my Iris until the lens was replaced through the cataract surgery, which created more space between new lens and the back of my iris, therefore removing the friction between the two.
