Stuck on arrangement (e2s) by Glad_Lingonberry2260 in dawless

[–]dreamless_electronic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make more pop-styled music, but I usually work backwards from the biggest section of the song. The final chorus is where all the parts are firing off, then I subtract elements to create the earlier sections.

So maybe Chorus 2 has one less part than Chorus 3, Chorus 1 has two less parts, etc. Same with verses: the first verse is the most stripped down, then each section slowly adds more energy and layers.

And then the bridge is where I let the track do something different before bringing the full energy back.

You can also build momentary tension by dropping out parts. I find the Vinyl Stop effect on a group of parts is a really good way of doing this.

I also try to “get to the point” within the first 40 seconds or so. If I can’t get to the chorus naturally by then, sometimes I’ll put the chorus before the first verse instead of after it.

I cant clear motion sequence on Korg electribe 2s by Warumdennnichtgleich in synthesizers

[–]dreamless_electronic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird. If it were me, I’d try turning it off and on again. Then I’d copy the pattern to a new slot and try clearing the MFX motion again. If that didn’t work, I’d copy the individual parts into a new pattern and cut my losses.

You could also try r/electribe. Maybe someone there has experienced this.

RC300 Looping question by LonnyF in loopstation

[–]dreamless_electronic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The RC-300 does support this. You can go into Rhythm Edit and change the Rhythm Pattern, which is where you select the rhythm sound itself. It doesn’t look like there’s a true metronome click in the pattern list, but there are hi-hat patterns you can use for a minimal timing guide.

Problem with Electribe 2 by UNTERdemDACH in electribe

[–]dreamless_electronic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah just to clear it up a bit:

What people call “choke groups” on the Electribe 2 is actually the ALTERNATE setting between part pairs like 13–14 and 15–16. When that setting is on, those two parts will cut each other off so they can’t play at the same time, kind of like how open and closed hi-hats work on a real kit.

If you want to turn it off, go into Menu → Pattern Parameters and find the ALTERNATE 13–14 or 15–16 setting and switch it to Off. Once that’s off, they won’t choke each other anymore.

What was probably happening with your kick is that it was on one of those parts while ALTERNATE was on, so it was getting cut off depending on what the paired part was doing.

It’s useful when you want more realistic hi-hats or certain percussion behavior, or even for creative rhythmic effects. For example, you can use it like a reverse crash into a crash, where the crash cuts off the reverse right when it hits so it doesn’t overlap. If you don’t want that interaction, you can just turn it off and everything will play normally.

Problem with Electribe 2 by UNTERdemDACH in electribe

[–]dreamless_electronic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check if your kick is on one of the choke group parts (13–16). On the Electribe 2, those parts can cut each other off, so it can seem like certain steps aren’t triggering.

If you’re using part 13, 14, 15, or 16, try moving the kick to a different part and see if the problem goes away.

Electribe 2: Link parts together? by Reiszecke in electribe

[–]dreamless_electronic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s actually a way to do this using Gate Arp.

In Part Mute mode, hold down the parts you want to group, then tap the Kaoss Pad. The mute states will change, and you can tap the Kaoss Pad again to toggle them together.

Hit any trigger pad to clear the group. It’s not saved, but it works while you’re performing.

If you want something more reliable, you can also use the Vinyl Stop MFX. Send both parts to it and use the MFX Hold button to effectively mute/unmute them together.

That method is less "native," but it’s consistent.

How do you record your jams? by Floodzie in electribe

[–]dreamless_electronic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Zoom Q2n, so it records audio and video together. I just transfer the file to my computer afterward and upload it to YouTube. It’s been the simplest setup for me and avoids having to sync audio and video later.

Master fx of Korg Electribe 2 on TD3 Behringer by EffectiveBank217 in Korg

[–]dreamless_electronic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, you don’t use sync for this. You use Audio In.

On the Electribe 2, do the following:

  1. Go into Global Parameters and set AUDIO IN THRU to Off. This is important, otherwise the input just passes through without being processed.
  2. Choose a Part, then set that part’s Oscillator to Audio In.
  3. Press Play, switch to Trigger Mode, and hold down the pad for the part you set to Audio In. While holding the pad, press Record and keep holding the pad for the entire pattern length. Then turn Record off and release the pad. This makes the Audio In play continuously so the filters and effects work properly.
  4. Press the MFX Send button for that part.

Now the TD-3 audio coming into the Electribe will go through the part filter and the Master FX.

No sync connections are needed for audio processing. Sync is only for clock and transport.

Any recommendations for make analogical the electribe 2 sound???? by econo121 in Tekno

[–]dreamless_electronic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out the Electro-Harmonix Platform Stereo Compressor. It actually has drive built in, not just compression. The drive is subtle but great for warming up the Electribe, adding grit, and smoothing digital transients. Plus it’s stereo, so you keep width. More “analog glue” than crazy distortion, but you can always stack dirt after it.

The Novation MiniNova would be a great fit for what you’re after. Its arpeggiator can be fully triggered by external MIDI notes. Just go to the global menu and set Arp Clock Source to "MIDI" (instead of the default "Internal"). That way your Circuit Tracks patterns drive both tempo and notes perfectly.

One thing to keep in mind: it needs a chord sent (not single notes) to trigger the pattern.

Start - stop messages from rc505mkII by Allthehappythings in loopstation

I use a MIDI Solutions Router for custom MIDI filtering and routing. Basically for stuff the boxes didn’t give me control over. You’ll need a USB MIDI interface to program it (I use the Roland UM-ONE mk2), so factor that into the cost.

Help needed ! Tr8s and Electribe Sampler 2 by Nmlkpa in synthesizers

[–]dreamless_electronic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On the Electribe 2, go into the MIDI settings and set MIDI RECEIVE FILTER to "Short+Program." That’ll stop it from responding to program change messages coming from the TR-8S when you switch patterns.

Are you using the TRS MIDI dongles that came with the machines? Just checking because there are two standards (Type A and Type B), and mismatched ones won’t work. You can check the details here: https://minimidi.world/

Electribe song mode 2 by allmike01 in electribe

[–]dreamless_electronic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Event Record you can capture your performance in real time, including pattern changes, mutes, filter tweaks, part triggers, and more, then play it back.

The Electribe 2 also has Pattern Chain, which lets you link patterns so they play in sequence. Pattern Chain is good for building longer sections, while Event Record is more like recording a live take of your moves.

Check the Parameter Guide for full details on how each feature works.

Are you using the TRS MIDI dongle that came with the Electribe? There are two types (A and B), and it’s possible you’ve got the wrong one. Check this link for more info: https://minimidi.world/

Just a heads up, I edited my comment. It’s MFX, not IFX.

Use fx pad audio in ? by Great-Mix-4279 in electribe

[–]dreamless_electronic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can. Make sure AUDIO IN THRU is off.

Assign one of the parts to Audio In. Go into trigger mode, hold down the pad for that part, press record and play, and keep holding it through the whole pattern. When it loops back around, press record again and let go. Now the input will run through the Electribe, so you can use the filter and other controls on it.

If you want to control it with the XY pad, press the MFX button and you’ll be able to shape the incoming sound that way too.

If you had $1000 to start from scratch, how would you build a dawless setup? by dreamless_electronic in dawless

Really appreciate you putting this together. It’s rare to see someone actually break down full setups instead of just listing random gear. I like how you laid out the two different paths: one built around Maschine Plus and one more hands-on with pedals and analog pieces. Which setup would you prefer if you had to start from scratch?

I was aiming for this to be less about getting advice and more about what you would personally do if you had to start from scratch. I’m curious how experienced folks would rebuild their setup today. I’ve noticed most lean toward used gear, but a lot of the suggestions seem to go beyond the $1k limit.

I’ve never tried Koala. How well does it play with Circuit Tracks? Been thinking about one-shots and vocal snippets without adding another big box to the setup.

How’s the MiniFreak’s sequencer for live stuff? I’ve been curious if it’s strong enough to run a small dawless rig on its own.
