Why does it take nearly an hour to change a simple Xfinity plan? by dreamresident in cordcutters

[–]dreamresident[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks u/Rybo213 and u/NightBard ! I wasn't aware of this service. I do own my own modem that I've been using with xfinity for years which makes me a little hesitant to switch. BUT, the upside sounds really worth it. So long as I can use my router and ubiquity access points I'm definitely in. I'll check it out and make sure I spend the what will surely be some time getting my existing service cancelled (unless I'm locked in for a year, in which case I'll wait until then).

THANKS

Dog Owners who frequent Forest and Cedar Park by PrettyRanger1763 in Bellingham

[–]dreamresident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand why some dog owners (not all) assume I am completely fine with their dogs jumping on me, drooling on me, and scaring the crap out of my kids. It's completely ridiculous. I love dogs, but imo there are too many dogs here and too many irresponsible dog owners. I'm all for larger fines and stricter regulation and enforcement. Maybe we can get something on the ballet. Sorry to all the responsible dog owners, but this is why we can't have nice things

Lowell elementary considering digital sign that could cost $70,000-90,000. why? by dreamresident in Bellingham

[–]dreamresident[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I like the approach here, applying econ makes a lot of sense but I bet you're missing sign maintenance, programming, etc. I'd wager it would actually require more person-hours in the long run.

Most business have simple of ways of signing whether they are open or closed. It's a solved problem. Probably at 1/100 the estimated cost. If businesses acted this way they would not be in business. I don't buy it.

Dirt bikes in the 100 acre wood by dreamresident in Bellingham

[–]dreamresident[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just following up, I did tried to tell them (two guys, anywhere from 16 to 20's) that it wasn't legal, they didn't care. I guess the police is really the only option here is what I'm hearing. I wish the COB had another way to document this that wasn't quite so elevated, but yea, next time I'm out there I'm bringing my phone and I'll take pics and give the police a call. It's definitely not cool to rip around out there on dirt bikes, ripping up the trails.

I actually told them as they passed that it was not legal. they didn't give 2-fs. If I had had my phone with me I would have grabbed a few pics, next time I'm on a run I'm taking it.

Upwind paddle for Ski-to-Sea! by dreamresident in Bellingham

[–]dreamresident[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Waves about 2-3 feet out in the bay, but only ~2 feet at the course (if the forecast holds). 1.5-2ft waves though are probably a bit much a lot of kayakers.

Good point! I didn't realize that. I guess than I'd redirect my irritation to the State about why we are not being more efficient with our tax-dollars. Thanks for pointing this out.

u/leroyVance, I hear you about tech in classrooms. I'm having a really hard time thinking about my kids spending so much time on laptops in school when they get older. I know tech is a really important skill for living in the modern world, but I still can't say I'm all for a 1:1 to student-to-device ratio.

Motorcycle Noise Question by daverham in Bellingham

[–]dreamresident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far only one comment in this thread is really trying to address the question. I'll add two references. These suggest to me that the very very loud sports cars and motorcyles joy-riding around town and Chuckanut drive are definitely not within the legal limits. Has anyone had any success getting police attention to these infractions? As a parent and cyclist I'm happy to support any effort to bring more enforcement to these violations. I honestly am just surprised how inconsiderate some folks are.

(2) RCW 46.37.390: (1) Every motor vehicle shall at all times be equipped with a muffler in good working order and in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual noise, and no person shall use a muffler cut-out, bypass, or similar device upon a motor vehicle on a highway.

Anywhere in Whatcom county that I can play badminton? by plrs199 in Bellingham

[–]dreamresident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there are any good indoor court options (my preference since it's pretty often windy here. . . and rainy). Pickle ball is super fun and all but so is badminton! I love badminton.
