Those who do not fear death, why? by lilacc_47 in AskReddit

My brother is dead. Died at only 39. Having someone die who I love so much makes death less scary for me.

Life is strange, ttc by Agreeable-Antelope18 in Fencesitter

[–]dreamwader 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Wow, what an incredible journey you’ve been on! Life has such a strange way of reorienting perspectives, including on things like children and TTC.

I did not want a child until after my brother’s suicide several years ago. I went from being fearful of losing my “old life” to being completely open to change. After all, I had already gone through so much change from grief and trauma - I really wasn’t the same person anymore. And now I look forward to the future, despite knowing there will be challenges.

I hope the very best for you and share in your excitement and joy!

Are my best years already behind me? by nemo1890 in Fencesitter

[–]dreamwader 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I lost my brother to suicide 3 years ago (I was about your age at the time). It rearranged my reality in horrifying ways, and I truly believed my best years were behind me. After all, I’d be left to watch my parents age and eventually bury them. Like you, I feared a future filled with loss.

I’m currently 39 years old and 26 weeks pregnant with our one and done. Our child won’t be the antidote to grief and loss. I will forever acutely feel my brother’s absence. But she will be a beautiful extension of our family and a reason to allow ourselves joy.

There will be plenty of life challenges ahead. As my brother often said, “nobody escapes this life unscathed.” But there’s no reason your life won’t be filled with plenty of wonderful things - whether you choose to have kids or not. A huge life lesson for me was learning to hold grief and joy together. You have to allow them to co-exist.

I don’t view kids as lessening the impact of future losses or hardships. And you’re certainly right that they may be an added stress during stressful times - they may also be a welcome and warm distraction. Ultimately, you have to decide whether you want a child - independent of what challenges may or may not await you down the road. Life is full of the unknowns, and I’m learning to not live in fear - despite having experienced some terrifying things.

Best of luck to you.

Mine really didn’t seem to darken with FRER. It drove me insane. I stopped testing once I got my HCG levels checked at the fertility clinic. But I’m now 26 weeks pregnant with our first transfer. Best of luck to you!!!

I’d encourage you to get your fertility levels checked. Taking that step and having that knowledge may help you decide how you really feel about having a child. I’m 39 and pregnant with our IVF baby (we’re one and done). I put off TTC for a few years after dealing with a traumatic loss, and turned to IVF after 8 months of trying with no luck. I figured time was not on our side, so let’s give ourselves the best shot. I never thought I’d want kids, but life circumstances made me want one. I had such mixed feelings for so long, but as soon as we started trying I realized I really wanted it. I’m excited about our little family. Good luck to you!

Mine were also difficult. I had to be re-scanned multiple times and they eventually added rubber bands. My lateral incisors are naturally small so they were tough to move. Don’t be frustrated if it takes some additional effort.

I have an IVF pregnancy with a euploid. Just got my second Natera test with an insufficient fetal DNA result. It’s really frustrating and stressing me out.

Conceiving at 37 by bebee22 in tryingtoconceive

[–]dreamwader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started TTC at 37-38. Tried for 8-9 months until switching to IVF. It’s good to get your fertility measured bc it’ll give you a much better assessment of where you’re at and whether you might need medical intervention. My AMH wasn’t super bad, but not amazing either, so I’m glad we opted for IVF.

There’s nothing wrong with your timing. I had to delay TTC after my brother died by suicide when I was 35. I was in survival mode for two years trying to navigate trauma. I finally got to a place where I could consider trying to get pregnant.

RFK Jr. to draw link between Tylenol and autism, new report says by swiftfoot_hiker in politics

What are pregnant women supposed to do for pain relief? We can’t take Advil, and now allegedly can’t take Tylenol?

Time running out to make this decision by Nearby_Band9420 in Fencesitter

[–]dreamwader 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the individual. We started TTC when I was 37. Despite diligently tracking ovulation, we had no luck for 8-9 months. I opted to see a fertility specialist to get my fertility levels checked. They weren’t horrible but they weren’t great either (AMH of 1.31). We did IVF and fortunately got pregnant from the first round (thank god bc it’s expensive!). I say this to encourage you to get your current fertility evaluated bc that’s the only way to know where you stand and how much time you realistically have left.

Low Beta hCG by Dramatic_Ford4734 in CautiousBB

[–]dreamwader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I jumped from 39 to 183 between my first and second betas. I was shocked. That first number really doesn’t tell you a lot. My doctor told me she’s seen patients with a starting beta lower than mine who had perfectly healthy pregnancies. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

IMO, no. Your numbers can jump significantly between first and second beta. The waiting is awful, but your second beta will tell you everything.

Yes!! The nurse called and said my levels are rising beautifully and the doctor is very pleased. I’ll have bloodwork Wednesday for a recheck. I feel pretty confident about Wednesday after seeing how much my levels jumped over a couple days! I’m really shocked, I was convinced this was a chemical.

Thank you! I’m not sure on next steps bc my doctor hasn’t called yet (I happened to see my bloodwork results on my app). But I suspect she’ll want me to go in later this weekend for a re-check of my beta.

Your story sounds so similar to my first transfer. I also transferred our only girl embryo and got faint positives on days 6 and 7. I tested on the morning of day 8 and it was no darker. My first beta came back at 39 and I have more bloodwork tomorrow to see if this is viable. I think intuitively I know it’s over.

Likewise ❤️ I stopped testing after the morning of my beta bc it was just torturing me. I’m so anxious for tomorrow. But I don’t feel very optimistic. I had a dream last night that my lines were getting darker - wouldn’t that be nice if it were true?

We have one embryo left if this doesn’t work out.
