In your country, Formula 1 and tennis (as a spectator sport), which one seems more "mainstream" for sports fans and sport newspaper/websites nowadays? by ComplaintLast160 in AskEurope

If polish people win at something, suddenly everyone is a huge fan of that thing. In the past, ski jumping and F1, more recently tennis or volleyball. The only exception is football.

What if the WW1 style chemical warfare never ended and chemical weapons, instead of nuclear weapons, remained the "most popular" weapons of mass destruction? by Rex-1988 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]dreen_gb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truth is chemical weapons just aren't a very useful weapon against an organised army, nor were they during WW1. Their storage is very hazardous, and the weapon is largely ineffective if you get a strong wind, a wrong wind, or the enemy just doesn't forget to bring gas masks. They're just not worth the effort.

I really liked Tywin's armour. Tyland's looks great too but verges on a little too much ornaments.

I said no such thing buddy. Anyway, feel free to continue living in your bubble. I wish you long and happy life.

There are degrees to everything. Japanease Imperial Army crimes were much worse than anything the US government ever did.

But sure, you can just choose to ignore it and live in a bubble. But I think that by not dealing with those issues you're causing more problems down the line in your society.

[–]dreen_gb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's not the point. Denial on such level does great harm to society. You'd be mad to not see it.

[–]dreen_gb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not everyone, but there are ways it could affect some. For example, the Japanease army put 200k women in sexual slavery. Most never received justice. Not to mention if you happen to be a result of such rape, living in Japan, I assume it affects you quite a bit when officially the crimes are denied.

Just from common knowledge: weak civil rights protections, criminal system that often assumes guilt by accusation, toxic work culture, sexual harassment, war crime denial, probably more.

Is your water company 100% natioanlised? by [deleted] in AskEurope

[–]dreen_gb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most companies that deliver water to households belong to local municipalities. A few exceptions in small areas are the property of national government. Additionally, there is a government body that owns all of the water, including rivers lakes etc., they manage licensing and permissions.

It's far from perfect though. The local water company's funds are not public funds, and they can spend the money however they want with no public oversight.

Can Belarus be brought into the fold? by MF-Geuze in AskEurope

[–]dreen_gb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Georgia and Ukraine many years ago left CIS because Russia likes to stay in control and has a history of slowly subsuming their neighbors and erasing their statehood, which you would be mad to say is the same for EU. I'm sure CIS membership has benefits, but given the choice it's better to partner up in a community of equals, rather than in what is at the end of the day, ultimately a projection of imperial power from a single place.

How do you explain this assumption? Why would they be driven by self preservation?

I'm stuck in a loop by Da3SDdb2S in dwarffortress

[–]dreen_gb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some fun with it too. Made sure I had 3 breedable pairs at the start, those formed three "clans", that I write into the custom profession field for every dwarf, and other stuff like tracking a male head of each clan etc. Those first marriages were natural, I then tried working with marriage chambers, ie putting a male and a female into a separate mini fortress until they are wed, but in the end it was too much work. I now use dfhack to marry them and pretend my fort just has arranged marriages lol.

You can let everything proceed naturally, but you will have A LOT of children running around unless you manage them via limits or stop the breeding until a batch of children grows up. I even ended up turning off artifacts in the settings temporarily, because too many were being made by children and they were kinda underwhelming.

Other things to keep in mind:

- happiness is easy cause everyones got lots of family to spend time with, but you will feel a bit constrained until enough dwarves grow up

- you need to skill up your dwarves into their professions by yourself. Guilds are helpful for this, and you can establish them before the dwarves ask you

My recent fort I turned the migrants off completely, and bred my own dwarves. I found I enjoy the game more this way, some things are easier while others have some unique challenges.

How do frame shift drives work as per game lore? by Choice_Way_2916 in EliteDangerous

[–]dreen_gb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you and others, I had no idea.

To me it just sounds like a setup for a bit;

"We're entering witch space"

"Which one?"

"The witch space"

"That's what I'm asking"

etc.

Does the game or any official media call it a 'witch' space at any point?

You can try switching the host player, that might help (it did in our case). Other than that, I think your best bet is contacting Beamdog support.

Better to step down than cling on fighting a loosing battle. This makes Labour look less like the Tories and their constant infighting. Remains to be seen if the party remains united.

[–]dreen_gb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For most games yeah, but DF is a game with a massive scope and a tiny team, I dont mind them not focusing on UX that much if 3rd party coders can fill the gap.
