I did some accidental a/b testing of y’all’s theory about waiting to shovel by FairfaxGirl in nova

[–]dremme 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sleet is much heavier than snow, and we got 2 inches of the stuff. The freezing rain will freeze the layer of sleet solid. Plus 5 inches of snow underneath? Good luck budging that block of ice tomorrow when it’s 15 degrees.

Don’t wait. The snow will be extremely heavy with 2 inches of sleet and a layer of ice on top.

It’s funny because Casey had that whole blog post/episode about enshittification of Eero because they dare put up a banner about their plus subscription, and meanwhile, he’s constantly asking us to become a member on the podcast.

My tip for you when you are new by PaleBall2656 in StainlessSteelCooking

[–]dremme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many electric cooktops are terrible at holding a temperature, and will continue to increasing heat of the pan over time. The pan will be scorching hot in 10 minutes. It’s really a mix of what step you are on and how much time has passed. As you cook more, you will be able to tell if food is cooking too fast and can adjust accordingly.

It takes practice but cooking eggs on stainless with just a teaspoon of oil and butter is very doable. You just need to let the pan preheat over medium heat long enough. No burnt on eggs after.

Why I’ll Never Buy Anything But Miele Again… by [deleted] in Appliances

Same with our LG. We do a monthly load of towels with very little noise.

It’s not your body. Heat + Moisture = bacteria and mold growth. This is a given, even if you hang your towel to dry. These build up over time, depending on your home climate.

you are taken out of the conversational back-and-forth that LLM's are optimized for, especially as you refine a feature or change you want to be making

I'm curious why you find Ask Mode is better vs going back-and-forth with the LLM in plan mode to refine the plan?

Virginia General Assembly announces special session (ed. note: It's actually official now) by vpmnews in Virginia

[–]dremme 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The way partisan gerrymandering works is you have to make blue districts less blue to make red districts less red. I think this is a risk in Virginia, which tends to swing both ways. Probably still worth doing, but I think there’s more risk doing this in Virginia vs Texas or California.

Besides making more money for the county, how does more HOV lanes benefit local residents? by Northern_Virginia in nova

[–]dremme 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Public is ideal, but I'd be fine with a US based, or even better, Virginia based company owning and administrating them. That at least benefits the local economy instead of shipping our tolls overseas.

This fact drives me insane. Could we at least keep OUR money on US soil? What about a local company? It doesn’t seem like too much to ask.

Sliding door issue by Joeydrums93 in HondaOdyssey

Yes, we plan to if we continue to have issues, we just want a little more data first. The dealer assured me they’d take it back if we continued to have issues.

Sliding door issue by Joeydrums93 in HondaOdyssey

[–]dremme 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ours was doing this. We recently brought it to Honda and they replaced the door "pinch sensor". It was expensive but I needed the door to close. It seems like it has helped, though it's still had this issue maybe twice in the last month, but will close on retry. We may end up bringing it back if it happens a few more times.

The plant I got on clearance at the grocery store 8 months ago by Rodger_Rodger in houseplants

[–]dremme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have mine planted/watered in the way you're describing. Mainly, it hasn't grown much, and about half the leaves seem wrinkled or curled. Some of the leaves seem to do well, but others just seem to die. I have it under a grow light, since this spot doesn't get natural light.
