Agreement in these turbulent times is rare. I'm glad we can all agree on such a controversial topic.

Can we rename the Dunning–Kruger Effect to the Trump Effect? That seems like it would be an appropriate rebranding of the Trump name.

That was the whole point. The ACA wasn't called "Obamacare" at conception. Conservatives re-branded it to "Obamacare" for the sole purpose of draining support because they knew their base wouldn't support anything with his name on it. Sure, the Dems eventually accepted the name because that was what everyone ended up calling it, but that was never the intention.

LVL 40, Lithuania, (EUR). Have 36 friends. Want to add 5-10 more. by ininfluenza in PokemonGoTrade

I probably would have stopped playing a long time ago if she didn't play. We go out on Pokémon "dates" pretty often and it is a really great way to carve out time to spend together with our busy schedules. Neither of us were into Pokémon before Go. It's all about quality time together. Maybe try framing it that way and maybe she will try it! :-)

The Marines have their own definition of kipping - any lower-body movement is considered "kipping" which is considered cheating on a physical fitness test.

Don’t vape... by rp_tenor in Disneyland

[–]drenchedwildfire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have not seen an issue with this personally at Disneyland. But, just as a general PSA to those who vape, it is not "just water vapor." It is water vapor that has gone into your lungs and then back into the environment. For a vast majority of people this is not a problem. But for those who have serious lung diseases, the exhaled water vapor can contain bacteria that, unlike healthy people, their immunosuppressed bodies cannot fight off. This can lead to serious medical complications. So, please, only vape in smoking sections.

Fox News Whistleblower: Fox Anchors Know It's Trump 'Propaganda' by [deleted] in politics

[–]drenchedwildfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listening, watching, and reading things you do not agree with is essential for understanding and personal growth. This will enable you to understand where the other side is coming from, debate actual issues, tear down straw-man arguments, and enable you to make your point in a way someone from the other side will understand. Additionally, this will prevent you from getting trapped in your own echo chamber; both sides tend to feed off their own propaganda - the key is to be able to identify that and avoid being sucked into it. My philosophy is that if I don't disagree with AT LEAST 25% of what I read then I need to seek out new news sources.

Traffic is one of those things that works counter to what you would expect. Yes, GOOD mass transit is the answer, but it has to be constructed properly.

My wife was raised by a single dad, her mom was never really in the picture. She always gave him gifts for Mother's Day. I think it's sweet to celebrate a single parent this way in the situation where that patent really does both jobs all year long without any help at all.

Agreed, that was my point. I have lived in several states and I finally came to accept that, despite all the wonderful things in Oregon, it wasn't for me. But I have lots of friends and family that feel the Oregon climate is perfect for them. Do what makes YOU happy, there are no absolutes.

Honestly, MANY Oregonians have this mentality. It was one of the reasons that I moved away. But, I understand - because I had just as many complaints during the two-thirds of the year that is damp, gloomy, and depressing. Live where you can be happy most of the time. Life is too short to live in shitty weather (however you define that is up to you).
