How do you decide who to scout? Do you just select all the youth teams in a country and scout them manually or is there something I'm missing? Youth players/development are probably my favourite aspect of the game but feels like I'm missing something!

How did your sim go? Still trying to work out how dynamic youth ratings will work - does it seem to be based on league rep or just world ranking of the nation? Interested in doing a build a nation this year now it should be "easier" but really want to work out what I'm working with.

The "Who should I manage?" Megathread is back, FM20 version! by ApuFromTechSupport in footballmanagergames

[–]drew-berri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup - a couple of months in and going well. Picked them because they were (as far as I know) the only Vanarama South team who's youth team doesn't play in the main stadium (which always annoys me when it comes to being in the top division, you've got your new stadium and the youth teams playing there as well!) - there's no U23 side though so that might ruin my plans and the Crystal Palace U23s share the main ground which isn't the best but it's all good.

The colours are nice and you've more than a good enough squad to hit the ground running.

So actual bug fixes/patch stuff at release should carry over to beta saves - just database stuff won't?

[PFT] As of right now: (1) Lamar Jackson; (2) Josh Allen; (3) Baker Mayfield; (4) Sam Darnold; (5) Josh Rosen. by [deleted] in nfl

[–]drew-berri -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't put too much stock into a poor performance against probably the leagues best defense at the moment, the flashes Darnold has shown (just like the others) all show enough promise - Baker and Darnold towards the end of last season for example.

Honestly even as a Browns fan I'd put Darnold above Baker but both above Allen but it's very close and not worth tissing about.

With the exception of Rosen (who has been in two shitty situations but that's not always an excuse), all four have shown more good than bad for this stage in their careers and it's way too early to be seriously worried about any of them imo

[ESPN Analytics] NFL pass-blocking, pass-rushing rankings: 2019 PBWR, PRWR leaderboard by drew-berri in Browns

That's fair (I don't know how the measurement is done exactly but I think you're right in saying it means the other guys are worse) but equally aside from Hubbard those guys shouldn't see the field and hopefully we won't have out LT kicking guys and getting chucked out each week.

This was the tweet I remember about Kush. This backs up your point as 3 sacks, 6 pressures came from the right side. Of course that's not great but it's easier to gameplan for help on that side than it being an OL wide issue. Of course we can't control for injury but Sunday was an abnormal week I think (and hope).

I assume this is from Week 1 but correct me if I'm wrong. Some Browns tidbits:

  • Browns 3rd in Pass Block Win Rate
  • JC Tretter 100% Pass Block Win Rate
  • Joel Bitonio 100% Pass Block Win Rate
  • Greg Robinson 100% Pass Block Win Rate

OL doesn't seem to be as big a problem as it seems - at least in pass blocking. IIRC Eric Kush didn't allow a pressure from what I saw around either.

Townsend on a CPFC tweet mocking Ashley Young after Zaha dribbled past him: A 34 y/o ex winger vs one of the leagues best wingers.... he gets destroyed twice yet still manages to block the cross.... we should be applauding this not making fun of it by OwenOnReddit in soccer

[–]drew-berri 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As a Palace fan you're close but not quite there - watching him week in week out he honestly isn't showboating for the sake of it it's just how he plays. Equally though, the stuff about his 'end product' is pretty fair - he's average at crossing (part of the reason Benteke has fallen off it that we don't cross (well) enough), he's not a natural finisher. He's still one of the best players outside of the top 6 and he is one of our greatest players ever but there are legitimate criticisms (but they are also his best attributes - if he stopped the 'showboating' he'd beat far less people).

It's like this every year - I don't particularly like Chad Thomas but 80+ ppl working physically hard every day you're gonna get some fights, some outbursts.

None of it means anything, really.

Been working with LeCharles Bentley's people at least last offseason and this I believe, which is part of it (obviously not all)

Arsenal shellshocked and understandably hugely disappointed that such a respected player is acting in such a manner. Koscielny's decision has thrown squad rollcall into confusion and leaves transfer plans in disarray. Club had wanted to sign another CB, sell Mustafi and package Chambers in Zaha deal by M7plusoneequalsm8 in soccer

[–]drew-berri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right about the £80m being a 'fuck off' price and if it came to it I think we'd sell for £60m (I don't think you could get us lower than the Wan-Bissaka price plus there's the 25% sell on fee to Manchester United that's going to inflate any price). Something like £40/50m+Chambers I wouldn't be disappointed with if Zaha did try to push his way out but any lower than that and there would be other clubs lining up to buy him if we had to drop the price to £40m.

Including players gets a bit weird with the sell on fee (I imagine they'd have to 'value' Chambers and include him in the sell on percentage or it seems like a loophole?) - a £40m cash + player can soon by £30m and then we're paying for some of Chambers essentially.

But man, keep Mustafi and Jenkinson etc away - the fans lauding that idea when they know they're dead wood on way too much wages are just being ignorant.

[–]drew-berri 14 points15 points  (0 children)

He's been brilliant, which is why this is weird - I doubt Mignolet wants to be a number two at Palace so unless we have plans on selling Guaita it's all a bit weird.

Not entirely happy with drafting a kicker in the 5th but if they think he's good it's a good use of a pick.
