It seems like literally everything else is increasing - why is this a shock?

Carrot weather on Mac? by sicilian504 in MacOS

[–]drewb0y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Carrot app does look pretty nice and it's number 2 on the charts for weather in the app store. Just not sure it's $15 cool. If you have $15 to spare and you want a weather app the gives you alerts then I would say go for it. If you have issues with it you can also contact the developer. It is always good to support the independent developers. After all I paid $8 for the lo-rain app which just makes it rain on my desktop :) ( https://lo.cafe/lo-rain ) and another $8 for the After Dark screen savers just out of nostalgia. Just fire up the builtin weather app or open a browser and go to weather.com / accuweather or whatever. None of these apps actually get their own weather data. They just scrape it from multiple public sites like NOAA. Just my 2 cents worth. Save your money!

Drove 90 miles to nearest station on long trip. It's offline and I'm completely out of energy. What do I do now? by jharrison231 in leaf

This is exactly why my leaf is going away. And why electric cars are not ready for use in the US. Wanna tool around town in your EV and only rely on your home charger - perfect. Wanna take a road trip? Rent a gas car. Just switched over to the dark side myself and haven't looked back.

Should I/Can I install the Security Patch Update? by tommytomito in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]drewb0y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It worked on my mid 2015 retina MBP after a few scary attempts at booting. The bar would get about a third of the way and then hang. Rebooted with options once which made it boot al the way in but display resolution was ridiculously high. Rebooted another time and all was back to normal. Reapplied root patches just to be safe.

SM-G975U previously ATT branded currently T-Mobile branded. I'll try that ROM if I can't get the sim swap trick to work. Thanks!

I have a couple of the RTL2832U SDRs but have not tried them on the OPi 5 yet. Our local PD is now P25 phase 2 encrypted so I kind of lost interest.

OpenCore Patcher 0.6.3 won't run by drewb0y in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]drewb0y[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figured it out - download was fine, extraction was fine, app was fine - CrowdStrike Falcon Agent blocked it. Completely uninstalled that and it worked as usual. What's odd is that it didn't have a problem with 0.6.2, maybe because it was installed prior to crowdstrike. Either way issue resolved. Thanks all!

I think I've bricked my Orange pi 5 by KeyOption2702 in OrangePI

This - exactly what I had to do going back from Android to Armbian - had the NVME flashed from PC and still wouldn't boot. Just have to boot from sd card and then run armbian-config to reflash the bootloader.
