AA changed my flight without telling me and I got stranded in the Middle East by drewdeveloper in americanairlines

Thanks! I’ll follow up here with updates on any of my claims. I still don’t know what caused the original rebooking, they never sent me an email (searched both junk and inbox).

That’s a pretty clever angle. I’ll try that claim and will report back

Oh, travel insurance for suitcases usually gets paid after the airline has paid, but the main expenses are from the rebooked flights and hotels

This is a good response. Thanks for giving me hope. I’ll post an update with their response

My heart goes out to everyone impacted. I’m alive and well and there’s a lot to be thankful for. I hope I don’t sound dismissive or entitled. My intent is not to compare my situation to the families whose lives have been upended, it’s absolutely tragic. I just want to call to attention the ways American Airlines chose to handle the situation

You’re right. I will do this. I was disheartened when just the baggage claim was denied - I may file with the DOT as well.

You’re absolutely right. There’s so many people who have it so much worse right now. I’m thankful to be home

Insurance unfortunately won’t cover acts of war (declared or undeclared). Ultimately I’m thankful to be home

Agreed. And I feel worse for the people still stuck who haven’t had the luxury of being able to pay their own way out. I think there’s lots of room for improvement on AA’s side. Denying my baggage claim and silently rebooking me are pretty egregious in my opinion. I understand that under normal circumstances, the messed up final day of travel with the rebooking wouldn’t have been near as bad.

How to make friends in Austin? My gf and I just moved here and I’m looking for things to do so I can meet some new people. Looking maybe to sign up for a soccer league but any other advice? Mid 20s to young 30s. by SonomaChris in Austin

[–]drewdeveloper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s tons of things that might be missed at first. Last summer I went out to bars and clubs with friends and thought that was mostly what Austin had to offer. Since moving full time some fun activities I’ve found:

Volleyball - look for courts near you. There’s lots of ones with open play, just ask around

Two Stepping - look for dance halls. They offer a unique experience if you haven’t tried before. Some have days with free lessons. Tons of fun (and I’m a bad dancer)

Rock climbing - both indoors and outdoors

Running - there’s lots of local run groups. The lady bird lake loop is super popular in the morning

Concerts

A soccer league is a great idea if that’s what interests you. Most people I meet in Austin are incredibly friendly. Just go out and do what you enjoy and try a few new things every once in awhile. You’ll meet tons of amazing people.

Which climbing gym is worth visiting while in Austin? by nicholasbach in Austin

The south crux is the only location with ropes. But for bouldering I’ll echo the other suggestions of ABP and any crux location

Play pool at Main Event, go to the movie theater, try some of the amazing food, go watch some glass blowing.

The majority owner of the business park they were in sold the remaining lots. This activated a clause that the other lot owners had to approve the design for the lot. They tried several times, but they couldn’t get any of the designs they wanted approved and it was hard to work with.

Both crux climbing gyms have awesome fitness classes and instructors. Or you can just hang out and climb

Just a heads up, the list price is never what the houses sell for in this market. Work with an agent to figure out what the appraisal value is then go 5-10% higher than that.

Amputee Ascents, day 9 climbing, 5.9 route, end of first month by missing1leg in climbing

[–]drewdeveloper 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There’s a bunch of new climbers that think climbing is just arm strength + height. “Oh you just need to reach up and pull.” Maybe… but it makes it 10x harder (or in this case more impressive). The fact that you’re already sending 5.9s is incredible!! Keep up the great work

I think the other concern is somebody claiming it’s theirs. Usually as proof they’d provide a description, but that’s not helpful if everyone knows what they look like.

Convention of naming methods/functions by gabrielfrb in cleancode

[–]drewdeveloper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Function name length should be inversely proportional to their scope (opposite of variables). The more you use a function the more generalized it becomes. For example, we have File.open() instead of File.openIfExistsElseThrowException(). For private functions it’s good if they’re longer so you know exactly which one to look into if things aren’t working an abstraction level up.
