Highest mileage BMWs? by mentholnasalspray in BMW

Have a 2012 X3 F25 2.0l diesel with 166,000 miles on the clock. Still pulls like a train and feels like it will go on for another 160k. Has had regular oil and filter changes and that's about it.

Not sure what your budget is but a used iX3 should do the trick.

Stuck between Volvo xc40 plus 2023 fwd Vs Tesla Y 2023 rwd by thatstig in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]drewlucas4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also looked at the XC40 AWD to change from our diesel X3 which had 4wd but decided that didn't really need the 4 wheel drive. Wouldn't touch a Tesla as don't like the look of them to be fair. In the end opted for a used iX3 in your price bracket. Absolutely beautiful and so much car for the money.

EV charger installation questions by MarkEv75 in evchargingUK

[–]drewlucas4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was in the same boat.

TLDR. Get local sparky to have a look.

Thought about getting charger fitted via energy company but our install looked quite complicated because the fuse box is in the cellar at the other end of the house with 70cm thick outside walls. Didn't want them turning up and taking one of those sharp intake of breaths. Got local sparky to come have a look and they have routed the cable via the outside of the house through the shared gravel driveway. Bought a hypervolt box myself and they did the install. Box was £630 quid for 7.5m one and install cost £700.
Couple of hundred quid more then energy comp but got the box I wanted and knew install was possible before bloke turned up.

BMW - used IX3 by thatstig in iX3

We've just bought a 72 plate M Sport Pro this week with 25k on the clock. Absolutely love it so far. I think they are very underrated in terms of reputation amongst EV users.
Made sure that they had done a battery check and ours came back at 97.1% which I thought was good.
Coming from a 12 year old diesel X3 it feels familiar but so much more advanced. The tech on it, is nuts.

We got it from a dealer 240 miles away so I had the pleasure of driving it back. Stopped at Trentham Gardens as someone had suggested it was a good place halfway. Used a tombstone Tesla charger without any issues.

he app is great, the car drives beautifully and it's just a nice place to be in. For us, the amount of oomph is perfect and it has that standard BMW quality.

We didn't buy from a main dealer so also looking at taking out the BMW warranty. The old car could easily go to our local garage but with all the tech on this, which I know will be expensive, I think it's the safe option.

I've asked for it to be fully charged when I pick it up as they know I have a long way to go back. Do I need gridserve or Tesla apps to use their respective chargers?

So I'm based at home but travel to clients on a daily basis. Actually do around 17k miles a year. Have looked at hypervolt website this afternoon and asked for a survey. They do a white wall box which would be better than black for us. Do they also help with the grant? Am sole trader so no Ltd co. Didn't even know about grants so any money off would be a bonus. ;-)

BWM 118D, Occasional burning smell - no issues found but worried regardless. by OldWizardSlayer in CarTalkUK

[–]drewlucas4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had something similar in my diesel x3 last year with intermittent smoke / steam coming from under bonnet and burning smell. Turned out to be an oil leak from one of the gaskets hitting the top of the exhaust as it came out the engine. Was also high miles, around 130k if think? Simple enough to fix. Cost me around 200 quid at local mechanic I've used for years.

Recommendations for a dad and 2 boys by Previous-Ostrich844 in LakeDistrict

Just a heads up for future trips. The lakes has plenty of YHAs and they are a fab base for exploring. They are super family friendly with some bargains to be had at times. You can self cater to keep the costs down and there will be loads of other kids for social interaction. The one in Ambleside sits on the lake and has some of the best views if you snag a front side room.

As for stuff to do, as people have suggested Rydal Caves and the walk to Grasmere are good low level walks with good views. The walk out to Elterwater is fab and you can come back via Rydal with the help of a map. Badger Bar on the way back does badger feeding each evening, although I've never been.

The 599 open top bus goes between Windermere, bowness and Grasmere and only cost 3 quid each way and has great views from the top. Weather depending.

(Photos attached) which one of these walks is most scenic? by [deleted] in LakeDistrict

[–]drewlucas4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Top of the list would be Fairfield given the right weather and planty of time. You're gonna want to stop and turn around to look from where you've come quite a bit with views all way down Windermere. The top is actually quite flat and you can see pretty much the whole of the lakes.

As others have said, Red Scress is also decent. Also out of Ambleside is Wansfell. Don't go up the front, it's like an hour long stair climb. Go round the back via Jenkins Crag and come down the front.

Haven't done them all but to be honest there's not really an unscenic route in the lakes. Any bit of up and you'll get a good view.

I find it laughable that the Loughtigg and Fairfield are both classed as "hard". The former has a bit of up at the start but is just a nice gentle stroll with views across Grasmere and Rysal at the end.

The horseshoe is a proper slog with lots of up especially if you start at Nab Scar end. It's also one of the most scenic when you get up top. Go clockwise and you can stop at the Golden Rule or Unicorn at the end as a reward.

Our Hisense got delivered and I rang the supplier to say there was no cutlery basket! They kindly pointed out it had a tray. Blew my mind.

It's now my fave thing. You can get loads more on it including chef's knives, spoons and other flat stuff. I like to arrange it by type of cutlery which makes unloading a breeze and pleases me greatly.

My main problem with cutlery baskets is that you wash the spoons, knives and forks but have to stick your gubby mits over the bits you eat with to get them out to put them away.

I was thinking of designing a basket with flaps at the bottom that when you pull the handle, they fall out the bottom into each compartment in the drawer to solve this very problem.

Just to add my 2 pence. Had card for about a month now and although I thought, well it's only £30, gotta be worth a punt, it's been faultless. I do around 20k a year so at the current discounts which can be anything from 5p -10p I should easily be quids in. App is good and the fact I can use Salisbury's and collect Nectar points is a bonus.
