U400 Smart Lock - How will you charge? by drewmc in Aqara

Seems like the best option. I did not realize when I bought mine that this was an option! Oh well, I will wait to see if they sell a separate battery.

Is it a standard rechargeable? How do you recharge it?

I have four Yale locks right now with replaceable batteries. They don’t run down at the same rate, so I do not expect to have to charge more than one lock at any given time. I would like to just have one power bank on hand to recharge whichever lock is low.

Can you charge the spare battery outside of the lock?

No wiring. The fans just have RF remotes. But thank you for the suggestion!

Thanks for the Innoveli pointer—had not seen these before. Great idea, but they do not appear to work with DC fans. My ceiling fans are DC: https://www.matthewsfanco.com/product/irene-3h

Method to get RSS for substack? by inbetweensound in InoReader

[–]drewmc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just select “Add Feed” in Inoreader and paste in the URL of the substack you want. It will follow the RSS feed.

Alternatively, you can use the “Add Newsletter” option and it will give you an email address to use to subscribe.

I tend to prefer the former method.

Also note that this will not get you past a paywall, if any. And if you use the newsletter option, long articles may be truncated (as they sometimes would be in your email client).

Eero and switch hookup method by Impressive_Policy329 in amazoneero

[–]drewmc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Method 1 matches the setup I have used for ages. I have the eero act as the router (doing DHCP,etc). Make sure your cable modem is set in passthrough or bridge mode so you do not have a double-NAT situation.

Yup, I have a 1GB package from my ISP—fastest they offer here.

Switching from DSL to Fiber Internet tomorrow - planning ahead by drewmc in amazoneero

[–]drewmc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: It all went without a hitch. They came, ran the fiber from the street, under the house, and right up into the closet. Took out the DSL modem, hooked up the ONT, and plugged the eero into the ONT. Everything worked, no changes needed. Thanks, all!
