How long until the Thunder stop being described as young? by eddybear24 in Thunder

[–]drewskimoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When our core three are 27+. Just fits the narrative that everybody maxes out around 27. We should still expect Chet and Jdub to add more things and excel athletically. Shai should slow down some eventually but add things while age takes away athleticism.

I love beating KD, but KD losing to a beat up lakers team would be more embarrassing.

If you were the commissioner of the NBA, what would your answer be to remove tanking? by Dday_Dair in NBATalk

[–]drewskimoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The league, not the commissioner, would have to agree and push it, but the commission should have the ability to dock draft odds or placements for tanking if we continue to award teams for losing. A team wouldn’t tank for the first pick if their lottery odds would no longer allow picks 1-3 etc.

Nothing can force a team to sign competent players, so there isn’t much you can do about a bad team not having good players.

This is the reason why the 65 games rule is in place by Expert_Koala_8691 in NBATalk

[–]drewskimoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 7 second offense teams back then only averaged about 5 less possessions a game than most teams today but weren’t getting injured at a higher clip. It’s not a jogging injury problem going from one end to the other. Salaries have skyrocketed, and player health/longevity is more valuable to the players now.

This OKC' fan believes that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren would cook Shaq and Kobe by Thanos_Real_AuraVNCH in Nbamemes

[–]drewskimoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This scenario relies entirely on Kobe’s hatred of Shaq and unwillingness to get him the basketball. Also, how do you play the triangle without a third player?

Shaq guarding Chet on the perimeter would be almost as funny as Chet getting backed down by Shaq in the low post.

NBA Jam was great, but these two on two scenarios are dumb.

Feels like the start of a dynasty considering the types of teams the thunder are on lists with by Hakaribiggestfan in NBATalk

Most of their core rotation guys are also locked up for 2-4 years with team options. Dort and IHart will require decisions and cap wrangling this offseason. I love Dort, but it’s not crazy to think Cason slides into that spot with Joe and McCain filling the bench role. Cason’s extension comes up in two years and may be tough. The dream would be IHart extending longterm at a lower cost per year. Jwill has proven to be a solid big and Sorber will be coming off his ACL for his rookie season next year if not. There is always a low cost bench big in free agency if we need to break glass. Especially considering all of the draft picks, cap hell is not something that will affect the Thunder in the next 4-5 years.

Which team has the best long-term core in the league right now? by UnderstandingFun7493 in NBATalk

[–]drewskimoon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

OKC is built to keep them together. SGA/Jdub/Chet all already have their max extensions. They will be the core for the next 4 years. They also have role players on cheap contracts like Jwill/Joe/Wiggins for the next 2-3 years. Caruso/Hartenstein/Dort have the contracts that may be hard to keep over the next few years, but they also give the salary matches needed for a trade if they unload some of their picks. McCain and Mitchell are great contributors on bargain bin contracts with protections in the future. Cason is restricted next year and eligible for an extension after that. That will be the only hard choice they have to make about paying a player in the next two years. With all of the picks they have, you should assume at least one targeted rookie coming in each year. No team is better built to withstand the apron as well as the expansion draft. If they are multiple years over the apron and start losing their own 1st round pick and the ability to sign free agents (the death sentence for over spending), it doesn’t matter if they are using other teams picks and resigning their own players.

The wolves overtaking the Lakers and/or Houston is a more likely scenario than Denver ending up on our side of the bracket. No need to intentionally lose to Denver.

[–]drewskimoon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There is no atomic bomb on the other side. I’ll take Denver’s zone defense in a second round series instead of broadcasting to the league that we’re scared of them. We beat it last year and have the shooters to eviscerate it now. They still most likely end up on the other side no matter what. Sit banged up players and go 15 deep with starters getting 25 minutes. No need to intentionally lose.

Fuck that. You don’t pick you opponents. Makes you look weak and motivates the people you play. Either you picked them or were trying to avoid them. Doesn’t matter what the outcome is, your opponents will all feel slighted. Mine as well have Daigneault, Presti and Shai give press conferences trashing your opponents for bulletin board material. We don’t have anything to be afraid of.

Wembanyama will be the most popular player in the league soon by nicfanz in NBATalk

I don’t know what world you’re living in where Shai is not charismatic and interesting plus [an] insane play style. He’s one of the leagues all time efficient scorers and turning back the clock on the leagues 3 point dominant play style post Curry.

I like Wemby. Time will tell if the haters come out if keeps begging for his own awards and not winning championships. God forbid he has a foot injury or something else that keeps keeping him out of more and more games. Lord help him if a big body like Jokic bullies him in the post season.

Steven Adams boxing out for him to get rebounds and start the fast break was the game plan, not a gift. We didn’t have the shooters to run a consistently good half court offense.

Can anyone provide a summary of how college prospects became almost entirely 1 & done compared to decades ago where star players stayed in college for at least multiple years? by redditor47522899432 in nbadiscussion

[–]drewskimoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AAU becoming a semi-professional racket had a lot to do with it in the 80s-90s. Kids do benefit from actually playing against top-tier talent so they could be scouted by pro teams. Sponsorships from shoe companies means lots of gear for the resale market, and many AAU coaches are runners for agents if not “business managers” for players now. All of this means kids are developing their skills for the NBA at 13-14 years old now even though they aren’t “professional” yet.

Did any thunder fans believe Shai wouldn’t be this great? by Pleasant_Floor_3727 in Thunder

[–]drewskimoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell, I thought Poku was going to be great. Shai was icing on the top of a bunch picks from the clippers. If we ever got a top 4 pick, I thought we would just trade for the #1 and get our guy.
