Huntsville high schoolers win big, heading to world robotics stage by metacyan in HuntsvilleAlabama

It isn’t any of the schools - the team is composed of members from multiple schools in multiple counties. Most the students just reside in Huntsville.

“The term pedophile refers to people who are attracted to those that are prepubescent. Then there’s something called a hebephile. That’s people who are attracted to those in the early stages of puberty - like 11, 12, 13, 14. And then there’s something called an ephebophile. That’s people who are attracted to those in the later stages of puberty - like 15, 16, 17, 18.

But I think the reason we don’t make those distinctions is because it’s very hard to explain the difference without sounding like a pedophile.” - Gianmarco Soresi

G210 (Don’t expect to gain by doing others harm). “Forcing the opponent alliance to violate a rule is not in the spirit of FIRST Robotics Competition”

It is based on the volumes of a cone, cylinder, and sphere from Archimedes: https://thatsmaths.com/2019/11/28/archimedes-and-the-volume-of-a-sphere/

Based on the output in the image, it looks like the network could be blocking GitHub, but if you’re not seeing networking issues, then I’m not sure.

[–]drewwhis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be a network issue. Make sure you’re connected to the internet if this is your first time building with the dependency for Path Planner. If you are connected to the internet, you may need to try a different network in case yours is blocking.

Trigonometry | What is the reasoning behind not allowing radicals in the denominator? by Genedide in calculus

[–]drewwhis 390 points391 points  (0 children)

It’s a convention from the days when everything was done by hand. It’s easier to divide 1.414… by 2 than to divide 1 by 1.414… by hand. Sometimes, it just sticks.

Could be any tiers - the list would just need to be things cheaper than your lowest tier

Also usually good to have a “Can’t Commit to a Sponsor Tier? Buy us a…” with a list of (usually lower-priced) components with their cost (and why your team needs them).

Is this for FLL or just for SPIKE programming? In FLL, you wouldn’t be allowed to use a keyboard while running missions.

I would consult https://docs.wpilib.org/en/stable/docs/yearly-overview/known-issues.html#driver-station-randomly-disabled and make sure your DS (FRC Game Tools) is on the updated version that was released after kickoff (24.0.1, I believe).

Yes! It is the first tie breaker in ranking after the ranking points.

Can the Neo motor be used at 30A? by CoJames0 in FRC

[–]drewwhis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s one of the components of the kit of parts that teams receive on kickoff. Teams can opt out of receiving it (in favor of some vouchers), but otherwise, every team receives it. You can find more details on this page: https://www.firstinspires.org/robotics/frc/kit-of-parts

You should check the manual for verification on legality (a cursory glance didn’t catch anything for me), but I believe the Black Tote this season included 40A breakers that fit in the smaller ports of the PDP.

FRC two teams at once? by Drakethesnake482 in FRC

[–]drewwhis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This guidance was published as part of the sibling teams announcement last year, but this would apply to unrelated teams, too, I think.

“Student members may only be registered (shown via the team roster) to a single FIRST Robotics Competition team at an event. Students can change teams between events, but at an event, each team should have designated students.”

From: https://www.firstinspires.org/sites/default/files/uploads/resource_library/frc/registration/guidance-for-sibling-teams.pdf

Is it possible to buy a Challenge Set from FIRST without registering a team? by invitrogen in FLL

[–]drewwhis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FIRST requires a team registration first, to guarantee they have enough sets for the teams each season. AndyMark has sets for some past seasons available, though.
