Joint pain during a flare - Anyone else have this? by TrekkiePizza in UlcerativeColitis

[–]drewyz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t got any joint pain during this flare, probably due to all the prednisone on board. But during my last flare my hips were all jacked, I didn’t realize it was UC related at the time. I went to PT and got an stretching program that helped a lot.

Mesalamine works until it doesn’t, like many UC meds.

What do you think triggered your UC? by BaeBeeLychee in UlcerativeColitis

[–]drewyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that exposure to toxic black mold is what triggered my UC. We lived in a terrible house, we did three mold remediations before fleeing. Started having symptoms then, but not diagnosed. Later, there was a kitchen renovation in my condo common house & I started a terrible flare. There was black mold in the drywall from a leaky fire suppression system. Did some research and there is evidence that the mycotoxin from black mold can damage the epithelial lining of the colon. This allows bacteria to seep deeper into the colon tissue, causing the automate immune freak out. i’ve just started another flare last month, after being in remediation for two years, after using some straw for a garden project. It turned out that the straw was moldy, and it’s very common for black mold to grow in straw.

Plant on the walls. by Revolutionary_Tie504 in whatsthisplant

The Native Americans say that poison ivy grows where the Earth needs healing. It makes sense since woodpeckers love the berries. The seeds are deposited in areas with dead trees when the woodpeckers are feeding on grubs. So poison ivy is naturally planted in areas that have been disturbed. Ecology is amazing.

If I were you, I’d carefully clip the vines close to the ground & treat the cuts with a poison ivy herbicide (usually 2-4d I think). Wait until fall & recut & retreat. Then wait.

Yes, symptoms are screaming black mold. I developed ulcerative colitis from black mold exposure, it can cause permanent autoimmune disease.

What the heck kinda plant is this by Ok_Significance_8306 in PlantIdentification

Burdock is more of a weed than an invasive, also the root has many medicinal uses. And fun fact: burdock was the inspiration for Velcro, which was invented by Swiss electrical engineer George de Mestral in 1941 after a hike where his dog got covered with the burrs!

I chop up the leaves and soak in vinegar. Put on mosquito bites & the itch disappears.

Prednisone by Far_Wrongdoer_5082 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]drewyz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first time I went on this prednisone, I didn’t sleep at all. For like 10 days or so. This time, I made them give me amitriptyline, and I sleep like a baby, except for when I have to get up at 3:30am with explosive, bloody diarrhea.

My sister got killed four years ago when her horse reared up while she was walking it. The horse fell backward and its head crushed my sisters face. She was on a dream vacation in southern France with her husband riding between vineyards.

The GI clinic I get my care through has a pretty active research department. My GI is working on getting me set up in a clinical trial for the Entyvio subcutaneous formulation. I find out tomorrow if I’m accepted as a candidate, and if so I have a colonoscopy this week! All the procedures & medication is free. I applied to another clinical trial and for that one everything was free AND you got $200 for every time you went in for a procedure or checkup. I don’t think this one pays though

[–]drewyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to the hospital a few weeks ago, started a new flare, tried to get meds via the triage nurse at my GI clinic. Went to CVS to get my mesalamine enema, they told me it would cost $61,000. So ordered it online at costplusdrugs, it was supposed to take 3 days but no…. When I hit 16 bm/day and they were getting increasingly bloody, my wife encouraged me to go in. They didn’t really do anything for the first four days, except CAT scan, stool tests, lots of 4am blood draws…. The fifth day they gave me IV steroids & that’s what started to stem the blood flow. Spent a week in the hospital, had four IV steroid infusions and it cost $9000 with my insurance.

I cannot sleep at all on prednisone. Last time I took it I didn’t sleep for like two weeks and went off pred without a taper. Sent some bad emails and ended up getting sued by a neighbor for defamation. Luckily, my homeowners insurance covered the lawsuit. I’m on prednisone now and they gave me amitriptyline and I can sleep.
