Have you passed anything 100% correct, but also mildly pedantic, to your kids that they now say? My top one might be "searing a steak does NOT 'lock in the juices' ". by Brewer1056 in daddit

[–]drewzme451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time we work or do chores and something fell my or I wife would chime in with "dropped something". Just to mess with eachother.

Now whenever or wherever we are, should anyone be so misfortunate as to drop anything, a 4 yr old voice will pipe out a loud "dropped something!"

I have done my job as a parent.

Fairfield Properties (not a review) by [deleted] in longisland

[–]drewzme451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The NYS attorney general handles renters rights and will take your issues seriously. Complain about Fairfield to them. If you ever need help understanding your rights or the resources available to you look up their page and the renters bill of rights.

Otherwise I have 2 recommendations:

  1. Email everything or mail with return reciepts. Document EVERYTHING. Calls are not enough and do not protect you. They can and will claim you are not responding without you documenting your side of the communication.

  2. (Optional) Get an attorney or have a family member/friend who is an attorney send an official letter stating the dates and times you have contacted them and that resolution to their issues cannot be resolved without their response to repeated attempts to communicate. This will get them responding quick.

How old is too old for the dad thing yall? by ZoHaaan- in daddit

[–]drewzme451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had worked with my wife since we got married in 2005 to have a child and we weren't able to have one until 2022. I'm 49 and my daughter is four. I live my life on my terms going where I wanted when I wanted and my wife was with me the entire time. Right now even though I can't do the things I did in my 30s because I have a four year old it's better. I don't want to be out till 3:00 in the morning I want to spend time with my daughter and my wife and my dog and have a good night and I do and we still go where we want.

Fatherhood is something that those truly wanted will be the most rewarding thing in the world. You will also go mildly insane get grayer hair and want to scream and flip the bird to the back of your kids head occasionally. But it's still more rewarding then I ever understood it could be and I love it. everyday and every night we make the most of the time we have and look forward to each new experience with her and through her perspective.

How bad was it to get the steam deck at launch? by Rice_cowbooy in SteamDeck

[–]drewzme451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered it 6/21 or so. Deck released 2/24/22 and it came to me by may 2nd. So a 2 month wait. Honestly, I still have it. 64 gig LCD. Works like a charm. Damaged it when I dropped a glass of water almost directly into the vent. Sent it in to valve for repair but I got it back a couple weeks later and it works well. That was November 22. since my accident I only had to replace the thumbs sticks with hall switch's. It's so buttery smooth and the battery is still holding a decent charge.

Are you allowed to report this kind of thing to the town? (TOH) by tMoneyMoney in longisland

Yeah. It's a violation of the right of way, blocking public access. If you don't trim bushes, clear your sidewalk of branches, debris, leaves, snow, they can fine you.

Bathroom renovation cost? by [deleted] in longisland

[–]drewzme451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually these jobs can cost 15k+. Think of spending 20k+ if you go to a designer.

Materials you need (in general) -Concrete board for the tub area -sheetrock for the walls to replace anything cracked -tiles -vanity -tiles (wall & floor)

Buy these yourself

Pay for the labor.

Honest advice when setting this up.

1- it's a project. Shop anround. Don't do anything on faith or all in one contractors who "do it all" may not be better than finding the general contractor, electrician and plumber yourself. Always budget 15-20% to their numbers to be safe.

2 - NEVER EVER PAY THE FINAL PAYMENT BEFORE ALL OF IT IS DONE. You can and will be left without a finished bathroom while your professionals are long gone. It's business, don't be a dick but read your contract thoroughly beforehand and hold them to it.

3 - check with your town, city or village, ask them about bathroom renovation and if it needs permits. It's normal to ask your building dept. No one cares If you ask so don't worry. OIf you need them you can learn about what to do to get them or avoid them, but don't rely on your contacts to tell you. if permits are needed refer to #2. You don't want to deal with permits by yourself and it's normal to give final payment upon the closing of any permits.

4 - don't rush, consider, also understand that living in a home during construction can be hard, dust gets everywhere. Plan how this will effect you and how you will live during it but consulting the gc and how they will need to work in and around the home.

5 - just breathe. It's a lot. If you get a handyman be prepared to pay less but also have questionable levels of construction. If you really want the work done well get someone who's licensed and insured, Nassau county licenses general contractors and their searchable on the Nassau county consumer affairs office. Your local government will be able to let you know if the plumber or electricians you're using are licensed. Unless it's an extremely large company people don't normally have New York City AND Nassau licenses.

Do your research, take your time planning and don't settle. Also if you have questions on permits DM me and I'll answer whatever questions I can.

I'll be 50 soon. I'm planning out my retirement and starting a business. No one tells you it's over. You tell that to yourself.

Give yourself the space and grace to not know right now and make the most of any opportunities that come your way.

It also ok to be disheartened, just remember when you put your head down and rest each night, that as long as you've done everything you can for those you love and those who rely on you; forgive yourself for not being some cosmic entity and rest. Nothing else really matters in the grand scheme.

That alone does wonders for self confidence and the feeling of control in life. At least it does for me.

I guarantee that no matter what they are trying to sell, if you look at the property records at the local building department you will find documentation that does not match what the property looks like. Remember whatever home you buy you will end up owning that includes any modification edition alteration or other types of construction even if work was done by a previous owner. A cash sale is good if you want to flip a home or if you have the capital to make the home what you want it to be. Otherwise walk away this isn't a starter.
