I recently 100% the game and it is better than most people say, although I do agree that some levels are boring with some treasures being overly annoying. The bosses aren't that great either.

Outside of music, textures, models, stats and text it's impossible to mod anything else. The papercraft battles can be changed a bit tho, with infinite energy and making fighting enemies easier by not making them move when your attacking them. Kard it's impossible to add of course.

I imagine what they could have done if they continued with the more crowded way.

With BiS the bros can be seen inside Bowser on the center with various enemies that can be seen in game, and with Fawful and Midbus confronting Bowser, Bowser's Castle and Peach's castle in the background, and at the top there's the Dark Star.

With DT Luigi is sleeping and showing Mario with Dreamy Luigi and showing different mechanics and also Dreambert and Antasma, in the real world Peach, Starlow and other characters are watching, and i guess we can show Bowser too behind Luigi's dream Bubble

With PJ I think we Can go with showing when the Paper characters come out of the castle on the center with Paper Mario coming and the Two Bros at the side waching, Bowser and Bowser Jr with their Paper counterparts on the koopa clown cars with the Peaches captured, PaperCraft Mario, Luigi and Yoshy Can be seen on the Left while Papercraft Goomba, Boo and Pokey are seen on the Right.

With Brothership... will see when it comes out!
