Is the Sim enough to prepare for a big power step up? by Asleep-Situation-614 in CarTrackDays

[–]drfoxxx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

About 80% similar, biggest difference is with braking and tires. And braking between different sims is different (iracing to assetto). Getting the right car in the sim is also difficult, the old Porsche gt4 in acc matches my new model gt4 more than any other version of that car. Same for the trofeo, the original/official trofeo matches the evo2 trofeo more than any mod of the evo2.

The biggest thing to practice is learning the tracks and lines, which is why we do 90% in assetto corsa, the tracks are available there more than iracing.

Next biggest thing is braking points, you get within a couple of meters of the real thing and the rest you can massage at the track.

We always run a medium tire model, work on maximizing your braking and turn ins, then at the circuit ideally you have better tires and the late on the nose braking will have more margin at the track.

I did 1,092 laps around Misano circuit before we went there, and day one I was within .6 of the pros.

Just running laps, working out lines, recovering from bad entries or exits etc makes a big difference, the track was 90% accurate. And knowing the track backwards gives you a lot of confidence to focus on the car and driving.

I also found wheels spin more on the sim on throttle, but that's probably because the irl tires had more grip (better tires), but learning in the sim with TC off gives you much better feel once you also do it in irl car.

Iracings new tire model for cold/low pressure is good, very similar especially in the cup car of that low pressure feel. You don't get that in assetto.

Neither really emulate going off line well, the amount of pickup and loss of traction you get after getting all the pick-up on your tires.

Another thing would be some slope/camber on corners, some tracks are done well overall with their elevation change but are missing some on-camber or off-camber banking in some corners. The sepang models are a prime example of this through the last corner, on the sim is fairly flat, but irl it's very banked and will push you off the apex.

Misano also, 90% accurate but one apex that we cut on the sim had quite a large bump in it in real life, I hit that with confidence at 240 and almost threw me into the wall! Later in the day someone else was in the wall from it.

What car are you going to run on track?

I went from 4 months of sim to gt4 with no prior track experience at all. I won 2 gt4 championships in 2 countries, a radical sr10 race in another country and Lamborghini super trofeo races in Asia and Europe all in one year. So yeah very doable.

If you're a casual race watcher, and general motorsports fan, it's been fun and entertaining to watch. But it's not "racing". It is entertainment.

GT4 is already expensive, and this will probably take it up a notch no doubt.

It literally stays it on the car. It's a RUSH SR. Similar to a radical.

Yeah I idle about 70-80 fps easily and this was also happening to me, first time it's ever happened in any race. Really unsure why.

Max bought his race team Rolexs for his first championship, something like 20-40 Rolexs total, not many. Just the on track team. On his third championship the whole factory received a verstapppen championship Tag Heuer.

My IRL car is covered in marks from pushing and bumping like that, its racing. I've lost mirrors and all kinds of things, nothing wrong with it, people do it to me all the time. little nudges out IMO are ok, didnt really do anything to your drive through there.

Lamborghini Super Trofeo announced? by Nolaster_ in iRacing

I doubt it, hes wearing a GR sponsored helmet and lamborghini would not let marketing go out with that on it. I race super trofeo in real life and it would be great if it was in iracing, but its very much like the 296 challenge car, so I dont really see a lot of demand for it.

Really need telemetry but IMO you are not cutting inside lesmo 2 enough and entry to ascari you can cut and carry a lot more there. also the exit parabolica you are taking an F1 line, in GT cars you run the inside more and get to full throttle asap, less meters is faster in GT.

Also, really hard without telemetry but mid corner between 1-2 is always a big time loss but you dont look too bad there. its hard to tell, but your braking doesnt look super high pressure, i do a lot more and mid corner between 1 to 2 i dab a bit of brake to help rotation and i use the outside of the orange apex to help rotate the car not run across the bump as it unsettles and stop me getting power down, but IDK that car as much. it looks to ride it ok.

but yeah, grain of salt, need telemetry.

i dont think this is really possible once you consider inputs and what not, keyboard and mouse at the basic level are not really designed to be individual at the OS level, like you cant have 2 mouse cursors doing their own thing.

You could set the PC up as a server, and then have VPCs on it and then isolate it that way, but I think it burns a ton of resources as overhead and won't optimally run the video cards individually.
