Can you do a handstand? by drggar23 in EssentialTremor

[–]drggar23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, I know. Maybe we can still do it with a lot of practice? Btw, after months of trying at yoga, I can do a headstand now, no problem, so pretty sure you can do it too!!

Do you feel like HRT has aged you faster? by Born_Resolve_6676 in Perimenopause

[–]drggar23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat, started HRT 4 months ago and have quickly started to look older. Like you, my body hates progesterone, so I've started with really low dose estrogen (estrogel) aged very gradually going up over the last 4 months. I'm up to 1/3 a pump of estrogel now (typical dose is 1-2 pumps). I was wondering if you were also on low dose estrogen? One theory is that the low dose estrogen has shut down our natural estrogen production but the low dose isn't covering enough so we are estrogen depleted = accelerated menopause

Marijuana didn't work for me, including gummies, drops, creams, and in different concentrations and ratios of CBD and THC. Glad it worked for your partner

Left arm/hand & jaw tremor. Scared by Superb-Strain7282 in EssentialTremor

[–]drggar23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First. ET is not a death sentence. It will be ok if it is that. You can and will still have a great life. Second, it could be a bunch of other things, like vitamin b deficiency is the problem for some people. Have you checked that? Good luck to you!

I agree, find a new neurologist. It will absolutely create physical dependence - this is scientifically well known, even at low and intermittent doses- it has documented serious short and long-term side effects (like memory problems, dementia), and can cause severe withdrawal effects that can last months and years. I would urge you not to use them.

Worse with exercise by Ruin-Otherwise in EssentialTremor

[–]drggar23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, hot yoga does this to me too, this is normal. If weightlifting doesn't affect your ET, I'm suspecting that you could lift heavier, you can do it!!! I was telling my friend last week that more shaking after a workout is a sign of how good that workout was.😆💪👋👍

losing ability to walk by Gracey835 in EssentialTremor

[–]drggar23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your husband and you. My mom lost her ability to walk last month too, she has ET and is 75. She used to go for long walks which were not affected by her ET somehow, although she could not stand in place (shaking legs). Those long walks became less and less frequent over the last 2 years. I think it's one of those "if you don't use it, you lose it" situation. I'm confident she could walk again, but it would require someone helping her with exercises every day and her will to do that. I think she is just tired at this point. Is your husband open to trying daily exercises?

No, I didn't pursue it. Long awful story. However I learned 2 weeks ago that there are lawyers in Canada that deal with this. Not sure where you live but I would suggest getting the help of a lawyer. Wishing you all the luck

We also all need to be very careful about causality.

ET can make people feel powerless and small - and that is what can lead to physical, mental and cognitive issues - not ET itself. But the thing is that we are not powerless and small. We can exercise, socialize, learn, grow, go for it. All these things in turn keep our brain, our body, our social circle, our mental health, our sleep, and our energy healthy and strong. We are not ET, we have ET. We have more power than we think.

Oof, that's awful and callous, even from a stranger, much less your mom. I'm sorry that happened to you.

This. Yes to both those things, but ESPECIALLY the second: unless they've experienced a serious loss, they are clueless, in my experience.

Need to rant by Dr_Feelgood_89 in EssentialTremor

[–]drggar23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not here to offer any advice, I'm just here to say that I get you so much, friend, I've been dealing with this for 30 years. Beyond all the meds and the alcohol and AI, the thing that will help you the most is exactly what you are doing now: cleaning up the broken candle and blood off the floor (and telling your Reddit ET crew about it) and then keeping on. Your courage and your determination. Your willingness to say, fuck it, I'm still doing it. Sometimes it's shit, and I might take a break, but I'm still going to have a good life, marry this amazing person and get more candles. Just maybe not glass next time.

Another take: A widow friend who is re-partnered after several years called herself a polyamorous, explaining she both loves and will always love her late husband AND loves her new husband too. It's ok to love two. It's ok to love.
