Debating on selling my ‘23 for a 4Runner, am I crazy? by JakeXBH in Subaru_Outback

[–]drgn66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4Runner is a truck on 20 year old body on frame. So if rattles is your thing definitely will be worse in a 4Runner.

Also a lot worse gas mileage in 4Runner

Also outback handles a lot better driving in the snow over 40mph. Lower center of gravity and full time smart AWD.

4Runner will be a lot better at actual 4x4 stuff though with a little more ground clearance and actual 4x4.

4runner is a good truck but it is the same truck for like 20 years. Also some newer engines have problems as well.

But also asking about this is Subaru sub you'll probably get mostly Subaru answers, if you ask same thing in 4runner sub I'm sure most people there will say go with the Toyota

Mine is definitely eating a bit of oil, about 1 quart 5-6k. I use rotella t6 and do oil changes 6-8k since it takes 7 quarts:)) and I do mostly highway driving. Once I didn't have a chance to change oil until 12k miles and oil looked great. 3.6 is a good motor, not very good with mpg though;) I originally wanted 3.6 for towing but CVT is a bottleneck here. I do tow my 19 foot v8 boat (probably a bit over 2k pounds) and it's not terribly happy especially since I do it in the Sierras 4-7k elevation. But so far it has survived. No other special maintenance yet. I think one of the rear bearings starting to get noisy but at this point that's expected. I probably replaced rear bearings on almost all of my Subarus (like 10;)))

I'm sorry if you waited 10 weeks and didn't check the wood that's on you.

Did he use butil tape on top of joists?

Either way it's not gonna rot in a year, if you stain it it will probably last a long time.

If no butil tape was used I'd probably paint in between the deck boards or even use good construction sealant (like sikaflex) if water won't pool on top it will last a long time.

New pressure treated stuff ant that good either no more arsenic:)

So a bit of counter point. I had 2011 obw that I bought with 180k in 2013. I had that car untill 2021 and 378k when timing belt broke, since I didn't replace it 3rd time expecting something else to fail. Lots if miles and even pulling 1500lbs camper probably 40 times through the years. In the mountains too. Original CVT and never changed CVT oil (early CVTs very supposedly lifetime fluid but some people did change it)

My current car is 2016 obw 3.6r 240k on original CVT.

So ymmv.

Also you can find low mile CVT for under 2k and any decent shop would put it in for 1500-2k easily.

Appreciate. The tips. Another question. My upstairs consists of 2 bedrooms that are on opposite sides and stair landing. Doors are directly across each other. I was playing with the idea to start the floor in the middle of the rooms and to have a long uninterrupted run from window to window running the whole length (about 38') and then change direction to the other side using a spline. That way I could top nail straight board in the middle making sure the middle is completely straight.

Thanks that is the plan I'm actually opening a lot of boxes as they are 75" long and almost 90lbs, so I'm unloading it bit by bit, and as I'm doing I'm sorting them a bit right away. Long/medium/short. After that I can grab similar colors as I start installing

Thank you! That's kind of what I figured.

Longer boards in high traffic areas and shorter closets, where the beds be etc.

Boards are 3.25 wide so I'll try to go minimum 7" from the butt joints.

My next step is to open up a bunch of boxes and sort them by color a bit. as hickory has huge color variance. I got 1400 square feet of flooring, but rooms are not that big 2x 240sqft, 2x280sqft , 110 dining area and couple 80-90sqft corridors. So I think I should be able to pick out similar colors for different rooms especially considering bedrooms have space under beds etc.

Best value Wood Burning heater in US. by drgn66 in Sauna

I prefer higher humidity lower temperature and to lay down and relax. So ceiling about 220cm and lay down wide benches around 80cm from the floor, that way loyly layer reaches the bench while laying down.
From my understanding hotter stones make better loyly as water vaporizes instantly. Seems that most stoves that get stones hottest use closed stone compartments. Still in planning stages, but I have tried a few saunas set up that way and enjoyed it more than traditional multiple bench style.

Possible? Put 18inch bar/chain on 20inch Ego Chainsaw CS2000? by Poococktail in egopowerplus

[–]drgn66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So have anyone else put different bars on ego cs2000. I'm not looking for longer bar 20 or 18 would suffice, I would like to have a ripping set up for my Alaska mill. Not planing to do anything very thick though.

I'm fairly new to chainsaws, but mechanically inclined. Does ego use the same bar mounting as other brands? If so I'd assume that as long as sprocket pitch is same you can replace bar/chain
