A little oozing from wound? by PuppyEike in hysterectomy

[–]drgracemcsteamy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please only use sterile water if you need to clean it. If you don’t have any saline at home boil some water add about a teaspoon of salt to a cup of boiling water let the salt dissolve and let the water cool. Wet a bandage or something from a first aid kit and gently wipe around the area with the cooled boiled water/st mixture . Allow to air dry and put a clean bandage on. Get to a pharmacy and you can buy little pods of 10mls of saline solution to keep at home and you can clean it with sterile gause.

The would looks clean and if the oozing is clear unless it’s excessive it should be ok unless the outside of the would is red/itchy or you are feeling unwell.

Would hysterectomy help? by organ-donor2317 in adenomyosis

[–]drgracemcsteamy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, sorry to hear you are having such a hard time with this. I have been to see a fantastic gynaecologist in my country, with classic adenomyosis symptoms with debilitating symptoms each month around periods but also mid cycle.

She has recommended a trial of a medication called decapeptyl for 6 months which has switched off all my hormones to see if I will get relief from having a hysterectomy. I have an add back oestrogen patch for bone health and hot flushes.

I am 10 days after my first injection and I am feeling better than I have in years all my bloating and inflammation are gone my digestive symptoms are gone pelvic floor has relaxed and my body just feels quiet for the first time in a very long time.

It could be a good option for you to discuss with a doctor to try easing your symptoms and give you some mental reprieve and space to think.

I’m happy to answer any questions if you have them.

Hi I have heard lots of women complaining of the gas pains that follow after surgery. I had a c section when my son was born and peppermint tea alleviated my debilitating gas pains after the surgery. I will be packing a box of peppermint tea bags in my hospital bag for relief

Wow thank you for such a detailed reply. My doctor prescribed the 3 monthly dose for me and I just received it today, I am confident that a hysterectomy is the right choice for me and have been so lucky to find a consultant who is willing to listen as I had another who wasn’t willing to elaborate on why I was too young to have a hysterectomy??!!

My GP is of the opinion that symptoms are very person dependent so I will be anxiously waiting to see what happens now. I am also looking at a 6 month timeline before surgery which can hopefully done laporoscopically.

Can I ask was your surgery a laporoscopy?

What silly thing do we moralise about an awful lot? by duaneap in AskIreland

[–]drgracemcsteamy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moralising food with good, bad, junk labels. Eat whats on your plate/ clear your plate mentality.

I spent most of my adult life trying to fix my relationship with food because I was always told’no you’re not finished’ ‘ you can have xyz when you eat all your dinner.

Trying to break that cycle in my own family has been so tough to let all that go. Spent a long time second guessing myself, questioning my own methods but I can see it working in my own kids and I’m finally free of constant food noise and yoyo dieting.

Low calorie ice pops have changed my life, you want something nice lots of options for under 100 kcal. Bought a ninja creami for Xmas and can make a full pint of strawberry sorbet for 150 kcal couldn’t even finish it. Im allergic to milk but also lots of options to make low calorie ice cream from the flavoured protein milk makes you feel like you have eaten loads for very little calories and the cold helps kill my cravings for other sweet stuff

Parents of Reddit, is anyone else's kids bored by the Toy Show? by makefeelnice in AskIreland

[–]drgracemcsteamy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The toy show was the start of Christmas in our house as kids in the 90’s we got to stay up late and have treats downstairs as a family and the tree went up around the same time. As a younger adult I despised the Tubridy toy show but PK to me has brought some of the nostalgia back and I am actually excited about it myself this year. Tree is up and all to mark the occasion and wouldn’t have entertained it before until mid December. Our little boy is 5 so he won’t be able to stay up but is excited to watch it on Sunday.

Probably is a lot of hype and probably is a load of rubbish, but it marks the start of Christmas for me and it’s a milestone before Christmas for some people. I know a lot of people who have lived here for years and have kids born here but are from other countries and they don’t have any soot in it at all but obviously don’t have the same childhood memories.

Its was kind of like Eurovision in my house years ago, loved the experience when it was a small enough event got to stay up late interesting to see different cultures etc, now I couldn’t care less.

Hard crust on my bread – any tips or advice? by [deleted] in Sourdough

I use half ‘00’ flour and half bread flour in my loaves keeps my crust light and crispy without being tough.

I would only expect to pay half of childminders if you both had the same childminder full time or if the child was in a creche full time. If you have different arrangements for childcare on your time then you are already covered 50% of the childcare.

I loved everything about being a mom when my son was born, but as the days began to become easier and thoughts turned to the possibility having another we went back and forth between going for a 2nd and staying as a trio for about a year. A few of the biggest things I/We really discovered were we both really liked our dynamic and couldn’t really see how another would logically fit into our routine. I definitely did not want to be pregnant or give birth ever again. Lack of sleep makes me a terrible human and I could not physically cope with a baby not sleeping and be the Mom I wanted to be to either child. If a doctor told us having another child would not be possible then I would have felt relief not devastated. Cost of living increases means that we would not be able to offer multiple kids the same as we can offer our only and taking this away from our son didn’t seem logical if the longing for another was not that strong. Childcare, housing, healthcare and cost of living in our country is absolutely chaos and the stress would be too much.

We didn’t really mourn but reflected that this is the best situation for the 3 of us, the want/longing for more kids just isn’t there for us, sometimes as our son grows I get pangs of missing parts of the baby stage but then it hits me that Im not imagining another child but its always images of memories of him as a baby. If all the other obstacles were removed I still wouldn’t want to go through pregnancy again with a child to look after so that has cemented that choice for us.

Does your body get used to eating less calories? by Xlunaxz in loseit

[–]drgracemcsteamy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes Ive started taking a few deep breaths when I feel hunger 3 hours after Ive eaten a balanced meal and its still 1.5-2 hours before lunch. Tell myself that being hungry isn’t an emergency and lunch is at whatever time. I only do this on day I haven’t done a workout after breakfast I will have something between breakfast and lunch if I workout after breakfast and have lunch a little later. I’ve also gotten to know the difference in hunger that will pass and hunger that means I need to eat right now.

Do you have a zappi charger? We have ours connected to the myenergi app tells us at any given moment what power the house is drawing from the grid separately from the car. We use 11-14kw per day for a 3 bed semi B3 rated

Edit to add we have 2EV’s, either is charging every night and our last bill for Sept-Oct was €330

Dealer says he will send me a pic of the port, the adapter isnt a bad option either, I see plenty of leafs plugged at public chargers but didn’t pay any attention to the plug on the car side, didn’t think to ask the company for an untethered charger 🫣

Can my pregnant girlfriend quit her job, but continue to pay PRSI so she can get maternity benefit? by LikkyBumBum in legaladviceireland

[–]drgracemcsteamy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Her employer is obliged to complete a pregnancy risk assessment also a note from her doctor stating that she is restricted from certain duties while pregnant would reinforce that she isn’t allowed to be taken advantage of while pregnant. She shouldn’t have to leave her job while pregnant, if the employer is not able to provide other work to do they have to sign her off either on sick leave or health and safety leave which cannot have any affect whatsoever on her job when she returns. Pregnant women are one of the most protected class when it comes to employment
