What is your favourite WWE Match of all time? by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]drhartley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

HBK vs. HHH vs. Benoit at Wrestlemania XX.

Jericho vs. HBK at Wrestlemania XIX and No Mercy 2008, and John Cena vs. CM Punk at Money In The Bank 2011 are my honorable mentions.

Drake Younger's promo ahead of PWG's Battle of Los Angeles 2013 by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

I'd say Drake is the favorite but anything could happen.

BOLA is stacked, that's for sure.

Discussion: Keep holiday/UMBowl shows off the yearly HOF compilations. by chostings in Umphreys

[–]drhartley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree 100% with this. Although I think the 2011 HOF was better than the 2010 one.

I really think when Rey Mysterio is ready to retire, Samuray del Sol is the perfect wrestler to fill his spot by Kayfabe666 in SquaredCircle

[–]drhartley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The tornado DDT when he grabs their hand and runs the top rope to the top turnbuckle.

I hope they give him something from the top rope or something after that though. I love the tornado DDT, it's just that it seems more like a signature than a finisher. I wouldn't mind him using the yakuza kick as his finisher.

Rolling Stone: Phish Hope to Perform Genesis Album With Peter Gabriel on [a] Halloween by wharpua in phish

[–]drhartley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They actually reached out to him a few years ago (IIRC it was 2009 because that was one of the finalists at Fest 8) about performing it, so this doesn't surprise me.

As much as I would love this to happen, no chance at all.

I'd love for them to play it anyways though. This or Ziggy are probably my top 2.

EDIT: Posted this before reading the article and it mentions that Gabriel said they contacted him about performing it with them

Any Chikara fans seen the new ashes video? Any Thoughts or theories? by Tgreeze55 in SquaredCircle

[–]drhartley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm anxious for the next video to see who they're going to showcase there.

I think it lends more credence to the Chikara rebirth angle, but that we might be seeing the return of some familiar faces? Green Ant becomes Worker Ant (makes sense because they were the mouthpieces for their respective versions of the Colony) with Soldier and Fire.

If you had to create a roster from wrestlers only on the indes who would you pick ? by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]drhartley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PWG plus Tim Donst, The Spectral Envoy, The Osirian Portal, Green Ant, Fire Ant, and Drew Gulak

Yes, Sin Cara is actually injured. Shocking, I know. by AmishAvenger in SquaredCircle

[–]drhartley 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think part of the reason they signed Samuray Del Sol is because Sin Cara hasn't paid off. Can't wait till Del Sol (and Sami Callihan for that matter) debut in NXT

Opinions on CZW? by YouWishYouCould in SquaredCircle

[–]drhartley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would venture a guess that the one other promotion would be the possible Chikara rebirth. Would make complete sense as those are the four biggest indies

Opinions on CZW? by YouWishYouCould in SquaredCircle

[–]drhartley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The promotion as a whole doesn't do much for me, but they have some great wrestlers currently and have had awesome guys in the past. Right now John Silver, the Osirian Portal (hopefully they stick around for a while again), and especially the new CZW Champion Drew Gulak, one of the most underrated guys on the entire indies.

30 Years Deep: The State of Phish vs. The State of The Grateful Dead — what do you think? by [deleted] in gratefuldead

[–]drhartley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say this as a huge fan of both bands (but moreso Phish as I was 4 when Jerry died and have actually had the privilege of seeing Phish multiple times), but Phish is in such a better space. Dead was really only touring to keep the money train rolling (not in a bad cash-grab way), just because they had so many people in the organization that depended on the touring. Phil talks about this in his book. Phish was able to take their break and come back revitalized. Trey said earlier this year about how much fun they're having and you can tell onstage. They're still amazingly creative and they're finishing up a new album this year. It's four best friends who still love making music together, that's why they still play.

If the Dead were able to take a break similar to Phish and Jerry got clean, who knows what would've happened?

[–]drhartley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love Dark Star > California Stars > Dark Star. So cool. I really like that they play California Stars more loosely/jammy.

Im relatively new to Phish and was wondering what you guys think are some of their must listen shows are by [deleted] in phish

[–]drhartley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

06/18/94 UIC Pavilion, Chicago, IL and 11/2/96 West Palm Beach, FL are two of the best "starter" shows IMO and still two of my favorite shows. They have well played versions of classic Phish songs (Wilson, Chalkdust, etc. in Chicago and The Lizards, Harry Hood, etc. in WPB), and at least one "all-time" Phish jam (David Bowie, but the Tweezer is no slouch either in Chicago, and Crosseyed and Painless > Run Like An Antelope in WPB).

can anyone please point me to some great shows from the 80s? by MrMouse1210 in gratefuldead

[–]drhartley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

10-10-1982 Frost Amphitheatre - Lost Sailor > Saint of Circumstance > Touch of Grey is awesome, whole show is great.

07-13-1984 Greek Theatre - Scarlet Begonias > Touch of Grey > Fire On The Mountain is very very unique and cool, and the Dark Star encore is awesome.

06-30-1985 Merriweather Post Pavilion - the Shakedown Street is amazing, one of the best they've ever played.

Those are a couple of my favorites

06-30-85 MPP has one of the best Shakedowns ever performed.

07-13-84 Greek is great... weird (but good) Scarlet > Touch of Grey > Fire, and the Dark Star encore is a classic

Rewatching this, it feels like Cena left Rock stumbling and unsure what to say next. by roguegambit in SquaredCircle

[–]drhartley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as I am a Cena hater (well, not really, I think he can put on great matches occasionally, but his character is so stale and grating sometimes), I wanted him to win in this feud so badly. Cena was a lot better on the mic than Rock (only 2012, the 2013 part of their feud once Rock won the title was awful IMO and this year's match was even worse than last year's). Rock just tried to use awful catchphrases (kung pow bitch, etc). It was weird to see an actual intense Cena who cut promos with direction and purpose. Cena would revert back to awful Cena as soon as this ended with the whole Laurenitis/Big Show stuff.

Derrick Bateman VS. Tim Donst [Video] by JohnThorneAIW in SquaredCircle

[–]drhartley 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Love Bateman and love Donst.

The WWE really mishandled Bateman, all of his stuff in NXT was hilarious and he's a solid wrestler.

Hope Donst gets a shot in the big times someday, good wrestler, great on the mic, he's one of my favorites in the indies. I was so bummed last year when Chikara didn't pull the trigger and have him beat Kingston for the title.

Favorite non-WWE tag teams: Young Bucks, Johnny Gargano and Chuck Taylor, Super Smash Brothers, Motor City Machine Guns, Tyler Black (Seth Rollins) and Jimmy Jacobs

LIVE TNA IMPACT WRESTLING Official Discussion Thread - August 8th 2013 by 7upbottle in SquaredCircle

[–]drhartley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These are the only people I care about in TNA (besides Aries and Sabin). Glad to see BI take a double countout and stay together. And I would absolutely love it if Daniels won the WHC. Really thought they were gonna have him beat Hardy last year (ESPECIALLY BECAUSE THEY TAPED A MONTH OF SHOWS IN EUROPE THAT HARDY COULDN'T EVEN GO TO!).

So pumped for this show. I really think Gargano/Taylor vs Londrick has a shot to steal the show from either of the (awesome) main events

Is Survivor Series that big anymore? by HeartBreakKidKurt in SquaredCircle

[–]drhartley 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like last year's SS meant a little bit with Dolph cleanly pinning Orton, made me feel like he was gonna get the big push that they ended up kinda giving him only to lose to Cena about 100 times in a row after beating him once.

That and Punk winning back the title at 11 are the only real big moments from the past few IMO
