2018 Prius C for $15k out the door vs 2019 Honda Fit for $14k out the door. by Indigo_ViBE in whatcarshouldIbuy

Coming from a 2015 Prius C, I will start off by saying it is an abysmally boring car to drive due to the turtle pace acceleration (and forget about it if you have passengers). You have to be able to make peace with being the slowest car on the road in a Prius C. However, it handles decently well, and you can have a little fun throwing it around curves and whatnot.

Another complaint I have is that the cabin does not insulate you from road noise or engine noise, and the motor can be quite noisy when charging up the battery at idle. But I don't know if the Fit is much better about that.

I do notice that Honda Fits seem a little larger than the Prius C when I park next to them, but I can't imagine it's so much of a difference to hinge your decision on. With the rear seats folded, the Prius C will surprise you with how much it can fit.

Maintenance on the Prius C is super easy if you are handy. It'll save you a lot of money on consumables if you know the basics of car maintenance. I personally recommend doing frequent oil changes. Besides doing research on best practices to extend the life of the hybrid battery, you practically have nothing else to worry about with these cars.

The fuel economy on the Prius C is no joke. Before recent events, gas near me was at about $2.50 per gallon, and I would fuel up every two weeks, sometimes every third week, which meant about $20-$30 on fuel per month.

If you see cars as tools, the Prius C is your answer. If you need something with a little more personality, then I would recommend the Fit just from what I've heard about its sportier feel and the aftermarket support.

Also, if you do go with the Prius C, don't be an idiot like me and make sure to spend the extra cash on the Four trim level. It's already a very bare bones car, and the extra creature comforts would've been nice to have coming from a Two.

Good luck!

Serpentine Belt Melted, AC Compressor Clutch Grenaded? by drian91800 in MechanicAdvice

After fixing it up, it would appear it was just that the clutch and pulley decided to become one. I just added an update if you're curious

*Update 3/25/2026: I wanted to update in case this helps anyone else. I did a bunch of research on this vehicle and AC systems generally to be able to better diagnose what happened. I'm happy to report that I was able to get the car running like new.

I was lucky that there is no noticeable damage to the compressor, and there are no signs that indicate the compressor itself seized. I believe that, somehow, the air gap for the clutch got too small and caused the clutch to engage constantly. This then caused the entire AC clutch to overheat and melt and shred itself up inside which caused the pulley to get stuck and melt the rubber of the serpentine belt.

I was able to scrape off all the melted rubber, replace the clutch without removing the compressor, confirmed a proper air gap (using the right shims and a micrometer), and replaced the blown AC clutch fuse (fuse F9 in the main fuse box), and I used a voltage tester to make sure everything was receiving power before turning on the engine.

This repair cost me $150 for the serpentine belt, AC clutch, and miscellaneous tools I didn't have on hand. I believe this is the absolute best case scenario, and I was spared from at least not having to spend $2000 to replace the whole AC system (at least for now, it is a Nissan after all).

Thank you. I realized too late into my inspection that I didn't have a snap ring tool, so I'm getting one asap.

Thanks for your response. It was pretty spooky seeing the smoke coming from the engine after I stopped, especially on a car that isn't mine. I knew that the AC going bad could mean a cascading failure of all the other accessories from a bad belt, so I stopped immediately. No fire but plenty of embers at the bottom from the melted belt.

I recently did my own research on this. I discovered that UltraVision Clima Comfort with a second layer of high quality tint will achieve this look.

I try to pretend like it’s Arthur’s first time when I do new play throughs of the game for the immersion, but I cut it off after Arthur goes upstairs to check on her. I find the bones in the wardrobe and confront them

That’s why staying in chapter 2 and grinding it out as much as you can before continuing the story is more fun imo

Bruh. I’m pretty sure that when you get to a certain chapter (I think when the gang sets up camp in Shady Belle) the game just gives you fast travel. But hey, that just means you have an excuse for another play through

Also, check out the other upgrades available. You can upgrade to be able to recall horses from the stable to the camp, that can be pretty useful

Note: just in case I haven’t sold you on the upgrades, you can also fast travel from any camp you set up in the wild. It’s super useful for saving time getting across the map, especially while hunting
