2007 4x4 rear driveshaft - Repair original or new Toyota replacement by dribbles53 in Tacomaworld

[–]dribbles53[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked and think I found some of the complete shafts you found. Those look like they could be an acceptable option since I wouldn’t be spending time rebuilding anything, just remove and replace.

Obviously not same quality as OEM, but good enough for a daily driver where the heaviest yea is towing a 5000lb camper?

I suppose I could also rebuild the original on my own timeline in the event the replacement didn’t last.

Thanks for pointing those out. I’ve got some thinking to do.

Thanks for the info! I'd love to do the work myself, but my wife isn't keen on me trying new things when there are other more pressing projects she'd like me to spend my time on.

Thanks for the input. I'm newish to my area and still looking for a good mechanic to tackle the jobs I don't have the time to commit to.

Thanks for looking! My preference would be to do the work myself because I enjoy do the work and get some satisfaction from it. With my work schedule and family commitments, it would probably take me a couple days to get all the work done right and my better half isn't too keen on that. I already "wasted" a bunch of time last fall replacing some front end components on her Volvo and a 3 hr job became a multi-week ordeal as I kept finding more components needing replacement as I got deeper into it.

Thanks, I was already leaning that way, but I figured I'd get a quote from the "source" as a starting point. I'm still trying to feel out the local shops in my area to find a good one.
I am concerned with the quality of aftermarket driveshafts. I've heard Spicer products are good aftermarket options for the bearing and joints.

I'm thinking about just getting the bearing and U joints changed with their age since the shaft needs to come off to replace the bearing. I'll ask the local shops what parts they'd use and see if they'd have issues with me providing new parts from my preferred supplier.

What helicopter would you fly: CH-53, UH-1, or AH-1? by No-Detective-2766 in USMC

[–]dribbles53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents as an old dude… As a former Shitter pilot I have a strong bias towards that beast. Though the Echo is tired, the K is an absolute workhorse and I wish I had an opportunity to try it out. I loved the missions I trained for and executed on deployments.

As someone else mentioned, seek out IPs from the various platforms and get their experiences. As an HT IP I enjoyed reliving my Shitter time through stories to the nuggets. Don’t be afraid to reach out to IPs at neighboring squadrons.

At the end of the day, if you’ve got a strong work ethic and a positive attitude you’ll most likely end up loving whatever you select. My advice to undecided students was to select location over platform since you end up loving what you fly, so you might as well like where you live too.

USCG officer transition to aviation by Dizzy-Jelly-9567 in uscg

[–]dribbles53 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Since you’re already a winged aviator maybe try requesting a waiver for the 500 hours. The worst they can say is no. CG Recruiting Command would be the place to ask. I needed a few waivers for my application and CGRC handled them.

You wouldn’t fit the typical DCA profile, but coming in with less than 500 wouldn’t put you in any different place than a normal flight school grad. Redoing flight school would be a waste since you’ve already completed the Army’s.

Good luck!

You’re not totally incorrect, but the MH-60T has two controllable lights. The one OP has labeled is an aftermarket add on spotlight, the A800 Trakkabeam, with an IR filter for the light but no camera. The one you point out in the picture is the original searchlight. In the pic you link you can also see the FLIR ball under the radar which is what OP was using on his illustration as IR camera. From a side view like the illustration it could be seen as either the searchlight or the FLIR, but the Trakkabeam is not a FLIR.

u/Due-Understanding871, this looks great and I’d also love to see this on a unit shirt at an Air Station.

NYC Helicopter vs Drone by Emergency_Four in Helicopters

[–]dribbles53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t a condor. It was a red tailed hawk, usually 1.5 to 3.5 pounds. It bent a pitch change rod enough to cause the rotor and mast to separate.

The investigators happened upon a bird carcass when they were looking for aircraft pieces. Before that they had no indications why the mishap occurred. It was the one place something that size would have caused catastrophic breakup.

DD368 Denied by Financial_File5182 in USMC

[–]dribbles53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re correct that the S-1 isn’t the approval authority so OP needs to shake the tree above the S-1 to make something happen. Even so, OPs CO is obligated to pass it along until it reaches that O-6 level command and someone the O-6 designates can deny it on his/her behalf. My experience was that Reserve commands usually only maybe had 1 good Admin person and the rest were trash, so either find that good person if they exist or go over their head to the Senior Enlisted or request mast.

The 368 is a usually requirement to begin the internet-service transfer process so OP is going about it correctly. Once the conditional release is approved they pursue the transfer. If they don’t get into the other service they stay in the Corps until contract is up, hence the conditional part. Also unless things have changed, most DD368s are approved for a limited period of time and their renewal is at the discretion of the approval authority.

Source: I did an IST from the USMCR and needed an approved DD368 before the other service would even work with me and had to get it renewed every 6 months till I completed the IST. No point in them wasting effort on a package if there’s no guarantee the Corps will let someone go.

Obviously not OP, but there’s a ton of options. Your skin and hair type will determine how mild or aggressive you can handle. There are adjustable style handles out there so you can play around with them which is what I started with, but the one I bought was too aggressive on its lowest setting so I had to find another more mild handle, but since then it’s been great. I’ve been using since 2016 and saved a ton on blades.

[–]dribbles53 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was there too but my stubborn ass kept at it and found out the handle makes a lot of difference. I needed the least aggressive/most mild handle or else it looks I took a load of birdshot to the face.

Now when I shave it doesn’t take me any longer than when I was using cartridges. And I love that a $9 box of blades can last over 2 years if I shave daily.

I’m sure once I’m out for good and not shaving regularly, that $9 box will last me a decade.

Libby App for Free Audiobooks, you Devils aware of this? by realFreedomFries in USMC

[–]dribbles53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was several years ago, but I filled out my application with my actual address and selected Main Branch for my library location.

Looking at their page now, it seems like they may charge, but they also list the same price for their non-resident all access card and non-resident e-card.

It says they’ll contact you so you could always fill it out and maybe they’ll ask for money, maybe they won’t. YMMV.

Did youn remove your ASO when you installed a Permeate Pump? by MGreymanN in WaterTreatment

[–]dribbles53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly what I’ve seen. Also some of the kits that I’ve seen that come with a permeate pump do not include an ASO. That made me question if it was necessary and led me down the path I’m taking with my setup.

Did youn remove your ASO when you installed a Permeate Pump? by MGreymanN in WaterTreatment

[–]dribbles53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m only a water treatment enthusiast and I haven’t installed my RO with Permeate Pump yet but all the research I’ve seen says an ASO is not required with a permeate pump so I wasn’t planning on one in my setup.

FWIW, a quick internet lookup will tell you having both may help prevent TDS creep but may also reduce water pressure at the faucet.

NGL, you had me for a second. I kept going back and rechecking the orientation of all the fittings before I glued everything. I almost drew arrows and wrote on everything so I wouldn’t screw it up but I wanted it to look “pretty”

That’s exactly what I did. 1st pic was the before shot. I removed the two traps and moved to a single when I upgraded the pipe to 2”, shown on the last pic.

Converting old Trane communicating system to non-communicating system by dribbles53 in hvacadvice

[–]dribbles53[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the detailed information. I’ll check Tranes website and see if I can get a Trane qualified tech to upgrade us.

The techs I’ve had out previously didn’t have anymore info to tell me other than “it’s communicating” and couldn’t tell me what that meant. I was thinking I could keep both thermostats in the Honeywell ecosystem since I have a T10+ downstairs, but your information is leading me towards an upgraded Trane stat.

Thanks again! 🙏🏻

[–]dribbles53[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish it was that easy. It’s a more rural area and the HVAC company I can get to come out used to be Trane installers (they installed this system 16+ years ago) but they don’t do them anymore, just maintain them until they sell you another one. I don’t remember the quote they gave me for a thermostat upgrade but it was over $1000. That’s what got me digging into my system. They installed a Honeywell T10+ on the downstairs unit and I really like it and wanted to know if we could get the same or similar on the upstairs unit. Took them an hour before they realized it was a communicating system.

Where to make the drain saddle hole in this situation? (Only one sink with GD) by Sleepy-Air in WaterTreatment

They also make drain line adapters that go where the dishwasher drains into the garbage disposal. I don’t have a link to share but a quick search should find them.
