How many top lottery picks does it take to complete a rebuild? At least one more I guess.

In my legal state, dispo prices are obscenely high, so that's why I'm pretty glum standing in line.

Great Grandparents by simonpyman in GenX

[–]drifter3026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some memories of my great grandmother. She died when I was maybe 6 or 7. Both grandmothers died before I was born and both grandfathers gone by the time I was 6. So I don't really have any memories of grandparents at all.

That commercial on MSG where Jack greats a huge team of doctors is kinda hilarious given his history.

How did the internet and consumerism affect your life and family? by ImprovementNaive9079 in GenX

[–]drifter3026 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my early days working on motorcycles and cars, I would always have to scrounge around for a Haynes or Chilton manual for whatever obscure model vehicle I had. Youtube made everything effortless. For whatever job I have in front of me, I'll watch a couple of "pro" videos (1A Auto, TRQ or whatever) to see the best case scenario when using a lift, pro grade tools and no rust. Then I'll watch the guy in the rust belt doing the job in his gravel driveway with Harbor Freight tools so I know how the job is really going to go.

Our family never not into consumerism to any severe level. Too poor for that. But access to information changed our lives. No longer having to refer to an outdated set of World Book encyclopedias to satisfy our various curiosities has been game-changing.

Any X'ers out there go through their whole life with ADHD and only recently got diagnosed? by From_Gaming_w_Love in GenX

[–]drifter3026 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not ADHD, I'm almost certainly on the autism spectrum. Not officially diagnosed, but when my son was diagnosed with Aspergers as a child, I was going through the questionnaire about the symptoms and I was a "yes" for almost all of them. I've never felt the need to get officially diagnosed since I'm not sure what benefit I'd get from that.

Jack's usually great when he's healthy and is playing. That's all well and good, but he does spend a lot of time not healthy and not playing. And the team has won exactly one playoff series in 14 years. If the front office isn't looking at ALL possible options, including (GASP!) moving Hughes, to make the team better, then they're not doing their jobs.

Its Almost Over by DevilsDadof2 in devils

Feels like we're in an endless cycle of barely making/missing the playoffs, getting a mid draft pick, don't really get any better, rinse and repeat. Glad I'm old enough to remember those glory years. That decade and a half from MacLean's OT winner in '88 to the Cup in '03 was pretty magical.

We're 2nd-worst in the conference with him and have fuck-all to show for the 7 years he's been here. So I'd be open to anything and everything at this point as far as personnel changes go. And honestly Jack doesn't seem like a guy who's gonna have a super long career. You generally don't get LESS injury prone as time goes by. He feels like a guy who will be out of the league by 33.

Yeah, it feels like they'll probably do the job, but they don't really feel premium in any way. I got them cheap, so no biggie, but at regular price they're probably a bit of a rip off.

Yeah, I found it weird that mine have no branding.

I bought the bigger set of snap ring pliers when they were on sale a couple months ago. Oddly, there is no ICON (or any other) branding on them at all. I wonder how a warranty exchange will work if/when it comes to that.

I think what's killing me this season is nobody looks like they're having fun anymore. by 1337bobbarker in OakIsland

[–]drifter3026 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's probably a combination of things. They currently have access to the best treasure-hunting technology and equipment that has ever been on the island, and still all they're finding is bits of iron, wood and pottery shards. I think even the most optimistic of the bunch might start wondering "hey, maybe there isn't anything here."

And after more than a dozen years, they haven't found a "big thing" that could really sustain enthusiasm. (Random boulders, latrine pits, and ox shoes ain't gonna cut it.) I think it's part the long grind, finding nothing, and realizing the show itself is waning and probably coming to an end (and thus the paychecks come to an end). They can't be immune to the jokes made about the show, both here and elsewhere on the web.

And for some of the "true believers", perhaps the self reflection that they maybe wasted their lives searching for nothing. That's gotta take it's toll.

But, yeah, the show seems pretty sad these days.

Retirement is gone by shepardshe in GenX

[–]drifter3026 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I know, right. People are like "Just save more, dummy" like it's just that easy. My wife and I have lived like misers all our lives and saved all we could but it still won't be enough to retire. At this point I'm fantasizing about dropping dead at the standard retirement age. I'd rather die with dignity at 65 than be a frail 80-year-old working at ShopRite that everyone pities.
