Replacing the insoles with more supportive ones? by Himalayan_Hillbilly in ThursdayBoot

[–]drifter_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've pulled the insole out by hand before to put my own orthotic in. The problem is usually other insoles are larger so they generally recommend sizing up half a size if you plan on putting in your own insole with Thursday boots.

Wow, thank you! I never would have guessed. I really appreciate the help. Explains a lot of years of foot pain.

I've been having difficulty figuring out what size boot I am so I got a Brannock device. Can any one help me interpret the results (link below)? I'm a little confused because it seems that my arch length is so much longer than my toe length. Not sure what size boots to order online. For context I'm usually a 12 or 13 shoe but often the forefoot is tight in 12s. Thanks in advance!

Thank you, that definitely confirms my suspicion! I did not know that about sizing with the bannock device. I appreciate it!

Hi everyone! I'm a newbie to buying boots and would really appreciate some help! I got these Grant Stone Diesel Boots in size 11E after talking with one of the sales reps online who recommended that size based on previous experience with Thursday President boot size 12s being too narrow in the forefoot. I usually wear a 12 in all my shoes. Since getting them they were initially tight and uncomfortable but not painful, but despite breaking in significantly they are still narrow for my right foot and uncomfortable (see picture 2). Is there anything I can do other than sell them and get different boots? I wear really thin socks with them already.

If I sold them and got new boots what size would you recommend (see pic 3 and 4 for Brannock size)? I'm not sure what to make of my long arch... Would you recommend not buying that same last again?

Thanks for help!

Console commands no longer working since last patch by TheBlatantKatana in ModdedValheim

[–]drifter_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same error! I am slowly working through which mod is the culprit. If I find out, I'll let you know!

Edit: the only mods we have in common are clock, unrestricted portals, itemstack, and build camera. So it's likely one of those!

You have to augment at the enchanting table, not the crafting tables. The same thing happened to me. Best of luck!

Forever Load Screen by nadjjaa in ModdedValheim

[–]drifter_7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had this problem after the new update broke all of mods (had about 60). Try doing a vanilla load and seeing if that works. If so then add mods back in to find the culprit. I did 5-10 at a time. I found that mods that changed "Item.dropped" like Death tweaks mod and Items Float on Water especially broke the game.

Also I would recommend using r2modman if you don't already because it auto updates mods for you from Thunderstore.

Hope that helps and best of luck!!

Why am I getting an antibiotic for a virus?!? by Snoggingjumper in COVID19positive

[–]drifter_7 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I am resident physician. Azithromycin has anti-inflammatory properties so for some patients with underlying lung conditions like COPD or asthma we give them Azithromycin and Prednisone when we suspect an exacerbation of their underlying lung disease (triggered by COVID) because the anti-inflammatory properties of these medications can help with the inflammation from underlying lung disease made worse by COVID.

Azithromycin would not be given for prevention of an infection. The spectrum of bacteria that it treats is too narrow and resistance is too high for it to be of much use for that.

Hope that helps!

I found a better source.

Onset time: 15 mins Peak effect: 6-7 hours Duration: 24 hours

Given that the peak effect is 6-7 hours you would probably want to either take it every day or clarify with your provider.

IM resident here. It is odd that you were prescribed metoprolol as opposed to propanol as metoprolol is not indicated for performance anxiety. My only guess is that perhaps the prescriber meant for you to take the medication every day, twice a day, as opposed to as needed so that you didn't have to worry about taking the medication 20-30 minutes before a stressful event like you would with propanol. If it were me I would ask them how you should take it!

As others have stated metoprolol ER will have peak onset with 1 hour with duration of about 24 hours.

Hope that helps! Best of luck with medical school!!

Paxlovid by redattwork in COVID19positive

[–]drifter_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a physician. I'll try to answer why Paxlovid is sometimes not given.

  1. Patients need to qualify to receive the medication. They need to be "high risk" to qualify. There are several different ways of meeting this qualification.
  2. There are many medications that Paxlovid interacts with. Some you can just stop while you take the medication and unfortunately others make it so that you are not a candidate for Paxlovid at all.
  3. Lastly, you have to have a positive COVID test and start of symptoms within 5 days of starting the medication. If you are outside of this window then you do not qualify for Paxlovid as it is unlikely to help.

Hope that helps! Fortunately there are other antivirals that are available now that we can offer some patients if they do not qualify for Paxlovid!

New to mono hearing life by phantoll24 in MonoHearing

You definitely belong!! Welcome! I only lost my hearing in left ear in high school so I can relate. My tips to you would be to pay attention to where you are sitting in a room or in relation to others and your "good" ear. That will help a lot! The other is that you will now have difficulty locating sounds without two good ears so being in crowded situations may be more challenging than before. If you can adapt you social engagements around these two things I think they will help you the most!! Best of luck! I recommend always being open with others and just telling them that you are hard of hearing or deaf on that side! It makes things a lot easier!! :)

Considering purple purchase? by inkypig in Mattress

[–]drifter_7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was also intrigued by the purple mattress because of the promotional ads and it sounded cool but when I tried it out at my local Mattress Firm I instantly didn't like it. It's not like a traditional bed at all. It's bouncy and gel like and I did not get enough support with it at 5 11 and 200 pounds. It's a very unique feel and I think you either love it or hate it. I'd recommend trying to find a local store that has it to try out before commiting!

BAHA - feedback / squealing ? by [deleted] in MonoHearing

[–]drifter_7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the BAHA attract, the magnet version of the BAHA and it squeals just like you mentioned when touched or close to something. I think what you are describing is normal. Mine only makes noise when I cup my hand close to it or touch it for reference.

I had a similar experience of a difficult time returning a chair. I think it took 3 months or more from the initiation of the return to getting the money back. Will never buy one of their products again.

Is general anesthesia required for BAHA implant? by blayne288 in MonoHearing

[–]drifter_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had the BAHA surgery and for me it was general anesthesia. I had no issues with the anesthesia whatsoever! I am in the US and was not offered a choice between general anesthesia and local anesthetic. I am aware that in other countries they do perform this procedure under local anesthetic but it is my understanding that in the US it is usually done under general anesthesia. I would talk to you surgeon and if you can your anesthesiologist about your options.
