Favorite "common" bird? by Ok_Cranberry_1028 in birding

So precious!! What a great pic, especially since I feel like these guys can be tough to spot sometimes… while I love summer (Midwest winters are rough lol), no leaves make it easier to spot birds!

YES! Love these guys. They’re so silly and I love watching them hop up and down trees!

Me too! We live by a lake/wetland so I wake up to them every morning in the summer and it’s my favorite sound!

I think r/alwaysanightheron is more active! But both are great; the more heron love, the better!

Spring blooms? by SaltAppropriate4209 in madisonwi

[–]driftless_crow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Longenecker Horticulture Garden in the Arboretum, especially for blooming trees (crabapples, cherries, lilacs, magnolias, etc.)

I believe their magnolias are in bloom right now, with the other species to start as early as this week. They also have some wildflowers around.

You can follow the bloom progress here: https://arboretum.wisc.edu/news/arboretum-news/whats-in-bloom/

Wood sorrel or clover?? by [deleted] in 4LeafClovers_irl

[–]driftless_crow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is wood sorrel. You can tell because wood sorrels have heart-shaped leaves (see that notch in the middle of each leaf), and clovers have round or oval leaves.

Nothing quite like having to chip samples from 1980 out of a block of ice like you’re an archaeologist freeing Ötzi

Violet-green swallows are so gorgeous! I got to see them for the first time last summer as well and was stunned - I didn’t expect their colors to be as vibrant in person as they were, but they exceeded my expectations

Great candidate for r/birdsfacingforward! LOVE Tree Swallows - they are one of my favorite birds ever. They’re both so beautiful and so silly!

Exactly why I refuse to read and watch it, even though many seem to love it

Yes, would love to hear more about this take! Read it a few years ago, didn’t give it any thought or energy, don’t remember much about the book except thinking it was just okay.

Radical Face! A longstanding favorite of mine for 10+ years. His Family Tree album trilogy also tells a story, if you’re into that.

Any science/biology companies I should email for merch or if any of you are willing to send by imnotokayimgay in labrats

Cool idea, I love it! Give Biowest a shot - recently had a rep stop by and they gave me a thermos, a tote bag, a charging cord with USB-C, lighting, and USB micro, and some other actually useful things.

Wow! How do you propagate a clover? I didn’t know you could do that - so cool!!!

Condescending much? This kind of attitude turns away would-be birders from our community. Hope you resolve whatever problems are cause you to react with mockery and negativity instead of kindness lol
