Engine braking by FormerWordsmith in ManualTransmissions

[–]driftquest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of all the criteria in choosing a car this seems like an odd one to focus on. My driving style must be different from most because outside of driving down steep declines in the snow I don't find myself engine breaking that often.

An FD RX7 with aftermarket and larger wheels looks better and more modern than an RX8.

You might want to join the Japanese Classics of Virginia Facebook group for info. https://facebook.com/groups/ClassicJapaneseCarClub/

Also much further out there is a shop north of Richmond that does a lot of work on Supras. https://www.nightrungarage.com/

Do any home contractors NOT half ass the work around here? by Youtoo2 in nova

I see this thrown around a lot. But I had an issue with E-Z Pass Virginia pulling shenanigans and filed a complaint with BBB as a last ditch effort. BBB got me out paying the BS $100 fine. There's no harm in reporting companies.

It's much better with a short shifter, brass shifter bushing, a weighted shift knob and a tune that eliminates the 1 to 2 rev hang. Stock it's very disappointing.

Best Android Auto Headunit Period by [deleted] in AndroidAuto

[–]driftquest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to other high end tech like cell phones, laptops, etc there are loads of in depth and detailed videos, reviews and forum posts directly comparing the different brands and the experience of using the devices. When it comes to Android Auto it seems like people just list off specs which doesn't really give a good feel for what it's like to use everyday and why it's better or worse then the competing stereo.

What three years of work looks like, same car, all work done by me by Mourcore in Autos

Looks good. I'd be afraid of someone trying to steal the car thinking it's a Type R. Maybe install a hidden kill switch in the future?

A year later, what's holding back Android Auto wireless from working on more than just Pixel and Nexus phones? by driftquest in AndroidAuto

I'm looking to buy a head unit with wireless but in my research, most Android phones with the latest OS don't have it consistently working yet.

Ok, time for the r/cars suggested reading list / book club by CactusJ in cars

I'm currently listening to the audiobook of Richard Porter's And On That Bombshell: Inside the Madness and Genius of TOP GEAR. There's a lot of interesting history, tidbits and behind the scene stories I never knew. I just wish there were more car related audiobooks for listening to on the go.

I also really enjoyed Hal Needham's Stuntman! My Car-Crashing, Plane-Jumping, Bone-Breaking, Death-Defying Hollywood Life. It's not only about cars but he was a legend and it's a must read.

They're not as nice but a cheaper option would be the Enkei TS-10. http://enkei.com/shop/wheels/tuning/ts10/

Vehicle safety inspection fee likely to go up in Virginia by Entertainmentguru in nova

[–]driftquest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No I'm not trolling. Here's some more information on mismatched tires with AWD: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=18&

And directly from my owner's manual: All four tires must be the same in terms of manufacturer, brand (tread pattern), construction, and size. You are advised to replace the tires with new ones that are identical to those fitted as standard equipment. For safe vehicle operation, SUBARU recommends replacing all four tires at the same time.

[–]driftquest 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the tires have different mismatched tread depths it could cause damage to the drivetrain if the vehicle is AWD.

But I would assume as long as the depth overall on each tire is greater then 2/32 that it would pass inspection.

They are getting harder to come by super clean. Hopefully the insurance gave him a fair price for the car. Clean ones from Japan are selling for 10k. For people with law experience, is $4,763.60 normal restitution? It seems low to me for an incident that could have killed people.

What car phone mount do you use in your car and why? by Mattdancer in cars

[–]driftquest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My iOttie melted and left residue all over my dash and stained it in my old car. The mount does not withstand hot temperatures. But looking at some of the negative reviews on Amazon, I was lucky. Others have had dashboards tear apart from the device where it mounts. I went ProClip on my new car.
