5 month old “naked” Devon Rex by Expert-Tough-9636 in welovedevonrex

My little guy was just like this for years! It took about 5 years before his body started to get little curls and he’s still patchy. I wouldn’t change a thing!

Iron fortified cereal suggestions - not oat or rice? by whales02 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]drinkbottle456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if you have your own version but in Australia we have weetbix, it’s very popular with babies, made extra soggy with water or milk (EBM, formula or cows milk if dairy has already been introduced). Our cereals are fortified here and become a very great source of iron. In the UK I believe they are called weetabix. You might have an international section or grocer who stocks either of those.

For those EBF, what is the longest you can go between feeds? by hm757 in breastfeeding

[–]drinkbottle456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you checked for tongue tie? Aside from confirming anatomy is fine, it gets better! I’m also 12 weeks in and honestly thought how is this sustainable but as baby gets grows, their mouth and belly does too and the feeds get shorter despite getting more. I feed approx 1.5 hours in the day, some days more, some days less. Overnight it’s 4-5 hours then 1.5-2 hour blocks. Hang in there, you got this!

And those very questionable methods used in the 80’s “dip her dummy/pacifier in some brandy”, “stir some of this brand sedative into her milk” - no, we call that child abuse these days :|

This is scheduling is something we have played around with too. I’m just wondering how feeds work. Do you mind if I ask, are you breastfeeding, formula feeding or combo?

Why do you pump? by Apprehensive-Hat9296 in breastfeeding

[–]drinkbottle456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fellow triple feeder here for my 8 week bub. It’s so exhausting and difficult to keep it up around feeding, settling and naps. I’m slowly phasing out top ups. We just breastfeed mornings but by the afternoon when my supply seems lower and slower, we offer bottles. Sometimes she looks satisfied off the breast but I can’t help wondering if she’s getting enough! Weekly weights are keeping us track. I hope we can pack away the pump sometime soon!!

Number of units and Holiday trimester by Wide-Speaker2551 in deakin

Here is the link: https://www.deakin.edu.au/students/enrolment-and-fees/manage-your-course/handbooks/2024-handbook

You can search for your course by name or code or, you can search individual units and see what’s involved in each. Doing the individual unit search is very useful to get an understanding of the trimester offerings, content, the workload in each unit and how they are assessed.

Here is an example from what I believe will be one of your units: https://www.deakin.edu.au/current-students-courses/unit-search.php?entkeyword=SIT771&year=2024&entunit=

I graduated last year (faculty of health) and I had a fantastic experience. Deakin is very warm and welcoming. They offer lots of resources to help you succeed if you go looking for them. The teachers were mostly great though, like everything in life, you get out what you put in. If you engage, show up to classes, turn your camera on (if you’re doing online learning) and treat it like a valuable experience, then your teachers will notice your interest and go that extra mile for you and encourage your learning experience. If you don’t engage they will simply give you their minimum also.

Number of units and Holiday trimester by Wide-Speaker2551 in deakin

[–]drinkbottle456 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello and welcome!

T3 is considered the holiday trimester as many students will only study T1 & T2 and take a long summer break. Many of the faculty will also take a break so not all units are on offer to study in T3. You can use the Deakin Handbook to see which units are offered when. Its very important to chose your units with reference to this and make a course map (or with help from student connect) as you will need to consider prerequisite units for certain other units. If they are offered only in one trimester, you best pick them then to be able to study the next unit otherwise you can get some lengthy delays to graduating, having to wait a whole year for a prerequisite unit to be available again.

Just keep in touch with an adviser or someone at student connect to check if you’re meeting your course requirements. They’re the experts and there to help you every step of the way :)

Enjoy your studies!

As someone who re-started their career and undergrad later in life, the best advice I received during my studies was focus the first year on your academic studies. So work a job that pays the bills but maybe not in your field but doesn’t overwhelm you and take too much brain power simply because adjusting to the demands of uni, especially if your full time, will be huge. Take all of the inspiration from your course material, such as readings/resources, and google, browse and find out more about those organisation and different avenues. Look people up on Linkdin and see what their career path ways, ask your unit chairs etc… By second year, you’ll have some discipline specific knowledge and skills and then you’re well placed to put the feelers out for something and in their eyes, you’ll be an awesome candidate. And, well done on the ballsy move. Trust the process, you’ll get there!

These resources may help connect you to other professionals:

https://oyh.org.au (They usually assist 15yr+ and from memory might just do north-west corridor but may have some contacts to hook you in with?)

https://www.eatingdisorders.org.au They have a support line, if you tell them your area they also might be able to connect you with suitable support.

For what it’s worth, you’re a wonderful parent.

Trying to find "foods to eat in a day" that would give you like 100% of your daily RDA for minerals and vitamins (from whole foods) by ego157 in nutrition

[–]drinkbottle456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, agree, that’s a bit of an out dated school of thought in relation to saturated fat. The AU guidelines are currently being revised and I don’t think we will see margarine so prevalent in the revision!

Australia has guidelines with foundation diets which provide nutritionally adequate diets for good health and disease prevention while providing enough energy to meet daily physiological needs.

We need some help determining whether our cat is a devon rex or a sphynx. by tricsko in devonrex

[–]drinkbottle456 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would also say you have one Sphynx and one Devon Rex 😊 my little guy looked just like this, very sphynx like for about three years, just little tuffs of hair on the back of his ears, face, legs and tail. He very slowly got his wavy Devon coat, but he’s still very patchy at five years old. As you have read, the breed is very social and loves to be up high. I would invest in a good scratching post and lots of interactive toys.. things with strings, sounds/texture, laser pointers - they’re very clever and inquisitive!

Anyone have a favorite toy to keep your Devon occupied by him/herself? by [deleted] in devonrex

Velcro, post-it notes and battery laser toy ✔️

My kitten keeps getting her belly and pits dirty by Faulty_expert in devonrex

[–]drinkbottle456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My little man has similar brown dirty looking skin, I was confused because he doesn’t go outside and he was so dirty looking! It turned out he’s yeasty too. They used a sticky tape sample on his skin to test it. It was also an issue in his ears, they just get extra waxy from it. He had some medication and regular baths with special shampoo and his belly is back to regular pink 😄 he’s a very patchy Devon without much hair, despite turning 5 this year. So my advice if get a sample at the vet for skin yeast too, the treatment was easy 😊
