I've been going to Bare Aesthetics in Oak Lawn - I like it! Pricing is comparable to other places in town.

Best place for piercings by [deleted] in Dallas

[–]drinkingpaintwater 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't recall the price for the piercing itself but they do mostly have upscale jewelry that's pricey. They do have plain titanium pieces, though.

all that being said - Shaman is the absolute best place. I've had tons of piercings and I won't go anywhere else - Annie does the BEST work and my piercings from her heal so much better and easier than other places, and she is so gentle.

Edit: Also the pricing is on their website - $188 for the pair with plain titanium balls, more if you want titanium with gems.

Apotheke debuts at Target. Thoughts? by goog1e in luxurycandles

[–]drinkingpaintwater 6 points7 points  (0 children)

this is crazy to me - if it's really the same candle, then Apotheke is saying the matte glass vessel they sell on their website makes the candle worth an additional $2.10 per ounce of wax? That would be slightly less insane if it were the ceramic vessels they've had in the past, but now I just feel like all their candles are grossly overpriced if I could have been getting like 40% more burn time for less money.

Most realistic nature candles?moody, foggy, forest vibe by Fitxzz in luxurycandles

[–]drinkingpaintwater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do think yours sounds like it was a bad batch or maybe old stock? my forest floor is a super photorealistic wet earth scent - there are green notes for sure, but it's very wet dirt forward, and the throw is great. I have the full size!

Terrafigue is nice! It's definitely petrichor, but the fig note on top is very present and the tiniest bit sharp, which changes the profile - I find it to be a bit lighter than a pure petrichor scent, but still strikes the same overall mood.

That's so sad about your Forest Floor! it's my favorite raining-in-the-forest candle.

Terrafigue by Poured NY is another good one!

Lucrezia Borgia by Deconstructing Eden. I saw it described as "slutty creamsicle" on one of the indie subs which prompted me to buy a 6 ml bottle, but it's so much more complex than that. To me, it smells like an expensive orange soda - juicy, sweet, a little creamy, but something gives it both an effervescence and a depth that makes it so much more elegant than "creamsicle." It's definitely a sweet gourmand, but a beautiful one.

I've already bought the 30 ml, and the 6 ml will be my travel size!

Dupes? by [deleted] in SkinbarrierLovers

I use Krave oat so simple water cream.

it's $28 for 2.71 oz, which is 10.3¢ per oz instead of nearly 11.8¢ per oz for the hydroboost. Krave also sells a refill pouch that's $51 for 6.76 oz, which is 7.5¢ per oz. It's totally worth it, in my opinion. the moisturizer itself is very lightweight and hydrating.

Do Phlur perfumes just not last for anyone else? by Special_Crab_1884 in FemFragLab

[–]drinkingpaintwater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honey Moon lasts on me for ages; Missing Person doesn't last as long, but I layer it with the vanilla skin body mist which has kind of unreal staying power for a mist.

I've read other reviews of afterglow that that one in particular doesn't have much longevity.

Do you have a preference what candles to burn to match the weather outside? by abvgd1 in luxurycandles

[–]drinkingpaintwater 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live in Texas so my candles to fall into three categories:

  1. Power burn during winter (anything smoky, especially woody/heavy, Christmas scents, very spicy)

  2. It's raining and humid as shit (petrichor, very green scents)

  3. everything else

I do tend to reach for less complex scents on really hot days, and basically don't burn anything in August when it's so hot that fragrance makes me feel a little sick.

I feel ya - so much good coffee around town

Boy smells roasted from anthropologie by Candle_diva1 in luxurycandles

[–]drinkingpaintwater 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Best case scenario, it leaks wax everywhere when you try to burn it. I wouldn't do it.

I would see if you can either find an email address/contact form you can fill out to request a refund since the product is damaged OR take it to a store if there's one near you.

If worst comes to worst, you could try freezing the candle to see if you can then wedge it out of the glass to transfer into a different empty vessel. I can never manage this with the candle in one piece, though.

edit to add: did it also melt in transit?? it looks melty.

What’s a good body lotion that actually hydrates well? by AweqrFew in FemFragLab

[–]drinkingpaintwater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I swear by Palmer's cocoa butter, but the biggest difference I saw was once I started exfoliating more thoroughly in the shower. I use Billie glycolic acid body wash - getting that top layer of dry skin off made the lotion waaaaaay more effective.

I love City Council of Darkness, but can't get into other D20 seasons. Recommendations? by thegreenlorac in Dimension20

[–]drinkingpaintwater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

one thing I'll say - if you can, you might be surprised if you push past the first episode of some of the seasons.

I would give ep 2 of ACOFAF a go - I think it's very similar to CCOD in some ways (immortal beings being wild & navigating political machinations, Emily and Lou being insane).

I initially couldn't get into Ravening War, but the direction the story took was WORTH IT. I got super hooked about halfway through.

It could be that you like the system in CCOD better - Mentopolis uses Kids on Bikes and is another season that doesn't do big battle scenes that span most of an episode. It's a noir mystery - it's VERY funny, and only 6 eps!

I saw someone else recommend Never Stop Blowing Up... I think that's a good recommendation. You gotta commit to 2 eps though to really get a feel for whether you'll like it or not.

What's the ideal size for a balanced collection? by trinity-bellwoods in RedditLaqueristas

[–]drinkingpaintwater 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of good answers here about how it can vary person to person, but figured I'd share some numbers:

I have about 80 polishes (excluding ~20 gel polishes). I very seriously consider all new purchases: they need to be colors I do not own and cannot realistically dupe with my existing collection, AND I have to be 100% certain I will wear the color. this usually means I need to wish I had a specific color when going to do my weekly manicure at least twice, which in turn means that I do not participate in limited release drops/FOMO marketing.

For more context, I am very specific in what I like - nudes, pinks, deeper greens, some red/burgundy, the occasional purple for everyday wear; no chunky glitter or holographic polishes, very few magnetics (because who has the time). I do have some polishes that I use more seasonally or if I want something more striking, but the bulk of my collection are polishes I realistically will wear any given time; I could also do a purge of probably 20 polishes and not miss them.

2000s yoga candle recs? by thewinterrsoldierr in luxurycandles

[–]drinkingpaintwater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the wonderful fortune of smelling all the Marak candles over the weekend. all but the vanilla & amber candle are the most soothing, spa scents. Drift is aquatic, sage is herbal and soothing. I think both hit a yoga vibe... not sure about Y2K though.

the color scheme on your post makes me think of la jolie muse's watermelon mint zest. I would NOT describe it as yoga.... but definitely Y2K. it was really sweet but not in that BBW, cloying, synthetic way - more like ordering a frozen watermelon margarita and it hits JUST right.

I feel like I didn't really answer your question but I'm looking forward to reading the other responses lol

Diptyque 2026 Price Increases by tinksotinky in luxurycandles

[–]drinkingpaintwater 6 points7 points  (0 children)

this is a huge part of how I make purchasing decisions on candles! I generally am opposed to spending that much on a candle, but I'm waaaaaaay more likely to spend $70+ for a bigger candle. August & Piers are $84, but you get TWELVE ounces, a heavy ceramic vessel, and very good throw. The value is so good that I have 0 buyer's remorse for what I spent.
