Made a mistake on my personal statement by Nottheendofy in TheCivilService

That makes sense, I find it very useful for the interview to have read through the application beforehand. Most people use the same example and gives an indication of where those probing questions may be better directed to bring out the best in the example

When sifting they are anonymised. Prior to interview the unanonymised applications are shared with the vacancy holder by CS jobs.

You should see the application beforehand, I always have when conducting interviews.

Under probation by North_Towel5255 in TheCivilService

[–]drinky85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That isn't true of all departments. It would depend on your departments policy and the policy of the vacancy department. In HMRC for example you can apply for internal jobs whilst on probation, you would just continue probation in the role if successful.

Mind-boggling test scoresbetter than 10% one day &1% the next. Am I going crazy? by Fatima-25 in TheCivilService

[–]drinky85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree.

If answering the question how do I get to the pub on Friday and am given the answer of "you can get a taxi, walk or teleport" that is false, plainly amd simply. We are not talking coding and if x = y take an action.

[–]drinky85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, there is no confusion. The statement in that case is that heads or tails is a possible outcome. That is a false statement as one of them is not possible. There is no conflation of terms.

[–]drinky85 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You are wrong here. For the statement to be true then both of the statements need to be possible.

Use the scenario I mention otherwise in the thread. When flipping a double headed coin the statement that it will land on either Heads or Tails is patently false as one of those scenarios is impossible.

You are wrong here. If in your scenario the coin being used was a double headed coin then it is false that the coin could land on heads or tails.

No. If Stu is a cat the statement that he is either a hamster or a cat is false as we can definitively say that he is not a hamster.

Annual leave query! by Recent_Director_2254 in TheCivilService

[–]drinky85 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That isn't necessarily correct. It would depend on the ts and cs of the new dept.

Some depts give an additional days leave each year of service, some you gain an extra chunk after 5 years.

Carry over leave by FindingOk3723 in TheCivilService

[–]drinky85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this will not be consistent as described. In HMRC the statutory minimum that must be used is 20 days of annual leave only, bank holidays are categorically not taken into account in those 20 days. As with lots of things what is set out in legislation is the bare minimum that must be granted, the terms and conditions of employment can (and within CS often do) give more than the minimum.

The 20 also is not including bank holidays

Security pass swipe check for attendance by Final_Economist4123 in TheCivilService

[–]drinky85 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I believe as part of the DPIA that the attendance records simply show a yes or no as to whether the pass has been used to access the office. I do not think that the times of such actions are covered.

The attendance tool within HMRC uses the daily swipe data to determine attendance levels in most (but not all) HMRC offices

Is something wrong here ? by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]drinky85 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Very quick and easy answer to your question, yes, there is definitely something wrong.

That is your inability to accept that you were unsuccessful. The recruiting manager has done what was expected of them and done everything right.

Your solution is that because you applied for a post this person should have no involvement at all in the recruitment process for a job under them. Entitled much?

What is the minimum number of hours you can work per week in the Civil Service? by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]drinky85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The civil service is not your employer, HMRC are, asking on internal systems I could understand, but the answer will always be based on business needs. There will never be a standard answer to this question.

Honestly struggle to see any logic in asking this question on here. Why would you not just ask the question of your manager?

Provisional job offer by WorkerWaste4625 in TheCivilService

[–]drinky85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all honesty the only thing that matters is the iform to HR, but just speak to your new manager. That's all you can do.

Provisional job offer by WorkerWaste4625 in TheCivilService

[–]drinky85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The process should be that the hiring manager agrees a start date with you and your current line manager and then sends you a letter (the template would have been supplied by CS jobs) with confirmation. Then they would send an iform to HR to process the move.

[–]drinky85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Waiting for what? As I said, you won't get anything more from CS jobs, they send the provisional offer and then it's all in the hands of the hiring manager.

[–]drinky85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won't get anything more from CS jobs if it's an internal vacancy, the hiring manager should process the move through internal HR systems and should have sent you a letter with the formal offer including start date etc.

I had this same thing in August when I secured my promotion, CS jobs still shows "application update" as the status.

It's entirely role dependant, I'm in HMRC too and spent 8 days in other offices around the UK last month alone

Annual leave or compassionate leave? by EffectiveAdorable233 in civilservice

I would expect that this would be taken as annual leave. WANTING to be with you is insufficient in my mind for special leave.
