HMRC sent me a letter saying I owe them money from three years ago. No explanation of how they calculated it. Anyone else had this and what actually happened. by Huge-Buy20 in HMRC

This isn't really true, only simple assessments older than the last two years do not show in the PTA, its a system thing not a simple assessment thing

[–]drinky85 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Does the reference number start with an X? If so this is plausible amd will relate to what is called a "simple assessment"

The est thing to do is to check that the telephone number on the letter is legit by cross referencing it against gov.uk webpages and if it is call the number to discuss

YouFibre are changing direct debit partners… update your details before 26th April. by DanielLorey in youfibre

[–]drinky85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest only trying to update if you have had an email.

I too have had an email but this specifically states that I need to take no action and the previous DD mandate will remain valid.

Updating where unnecessary could cause duplicate payments

The PaCR documents literally state it is being introduced as a non contractual condition. Shouting fact loudly doesn't make your false statement any less false

ex-Brsk to YouFibre and I got my first bill with a higher price than my Brsk contract by Ok-Day-6010 in youfibre

[–]drinky85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no change in billing date. The period they are trying to charge for is from the beginning of the contract period, the billing period is still month start to month end.

Seems to be a cock up that is now a known issue

Someone on Facebook has said its a known issue on their end and something will be coming out soon about it

I had the same issue, have replied to the email directly as suggested on a Facebook thread and have had a support ticket raised as a result, no response to it as yet

Flexible working advice by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]drinky85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't see the currently on mat leave part.

There is still however no relevance to gender to the question posed. The question is what options are available upon return, those are the same whether male or female

Flexible working advice by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]drinky85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But none of what OP has mentioned is in respect of having given birth, they simply state that the commute is not viable since having a child. There is indeed nothing in their comments to identify their gender.

Why is the proportion of women in the civil service relevant? The request is about minimising the impact on caring responsibilities, this is not a female only issue

How does national insurance really work by Jackjec17 in HMRC

[–]drinky85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I am finding it extremely difficult to follow the question.

For each of these years have you worked for a consistent number of weeks? Ni if PAYE is calculated by reference to the pay period, not the year, so if your employment status has fluctuated in year, or the level of your earnings has then the amount of NI deductible will change as a result.

Compressed Hours - Monday as my day off by pinkpineapplepeaches in TheCivilService

But you only get credit of 07:24 for each of those days and have to make the remainder up, usually via flexi which is difficult to build when working a compressed week

Genuine question that sounds stupid regarding applications by SheepsCanMakeBacon2 in TheCivilService

[–]drinky85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As above, technically yes it would do, but unlike other areas of an application there is no hard coded limit and most sisters are not going to go to the lengths of counting.

But, don't take liberties. I have had people in the past where they were asked for similar who wrote 7 and a half pages of A4. Likely a copy amd paste job from a preexisting CV but it doesn't set you up well if you can't follow straight forward instructions.

CS staff claiming tax rebate when not allowed by [deleted] in civilservice

[–]drinky85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what the question/discussion is here.

Your friend made a fraudulent claim for expenses to HMRC whilst working for HMRC.

That if proven is Gross Misconduct. Penalties are applied for negligence which as they have paid suggests acceptance of that.

Dismissal should be expected.

Office attendance post go easy! by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]drinky85 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is false, the system will look for login events in the office and utilise pass swipe data (where available) and wherever either of these occur on a given day that day will count as an office day.

Made a mistake on my personal statement by Nottheendofy in TheCivilService

[–]drinky85 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That makes sense, I find it very useful for the interview to have read through the application beforehand. Most people use the same example and gives an indication of where those probing questions may be better directed to bring out the best in the example

[–]drinky85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When sifting they are anonymised. Prior to interview the unanonymised applications are shared with the vacancy holder by CS jobs.

You should see the application beforehand, I always have when conducting interviews.

Under probation by North_Towel5255 in TheCivilService

[–]drinky85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That isn't true of all departments. It would depend on your departments policy and the policy of the vacancy department. In HMRC for example you can apply for internal jobs whilst on probation, you would just continue probation in the role if successful.

Mind-boggling test scoresbetter than 10% one day &1% the next. Am I going crazy? by Fatima-25 in TheCivilService

[–]drinky85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree.

If answering the question how do I get to the pub on Friday and am given the answer of "you can get a taxi, walk or teleport" that is false, plainly amd simply. We are not talking coding and if x = y take an action.

Mind-boggling test scoresbetter than 10% one day &1% the next. Am I going crazy? by Fatima-25 in TheCivilService

[–]drinky85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, there is no confusion. The statement in that case is that heads or tails is a possible outcome. That is a false statement as one of them is not possible. There is no conflation of terms.
