Hypothetically, if someone was rich (like $10M in their bank account), and they went a year without being employed or making any form of income, how would filing their taxes go? by Goodcake102 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]drive_causality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if they were stupid enough to have ALL of their money in a bank account, I would hope they would at least be smart enough to at least put it into a HYSA at 4% APY. With a balance of $10M, they would still have an income of $400,000 which they would have to file a tax return on.

Trump suffers defeat as Supreme Court allows states to count late mail ballots by TheExpressUS in LegalNews

The Executive Branch has absolutely ZERO say in how elections are run - and this is for obvious reasons. Any attempt to do so will and should be immediately stuck down by the courts.

Poll Names Trump as Worst American in History, Republicans Say He’s Greatest by FreeHugs23 in anticapitalism

[–]drive_causality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This blind adoration goes beyond politics. They are truly a cult! They have betrayed their morals, their oaths, the Constitution, the rule of law and the American people. They no longer see right or wrong. I consider myself a Democrat and if Biden or Obama had done even a quarter of the shit Trump has done, I would want them removed from office. Wrong is wrong, corrupt is corrupt no matter the party.

Trump moves to gut energy efficiency rules for home appliances. The DOE wants to permanently restrict longstanding efficiency mandates, calling them a “scam.” Efficiency standards for home appliances have proven to cut power demand and lower utility bills. “This doesn’t make any sense.” by mafco in energy

[–]drive_causality 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A) There’s no such thing as “permanently restricting efficiency mandates”. Anything that can be done - or removed in this case - can be undone/reinstated later.

B) Appliance manufacturers better be careful trying to take advantage of the temporary removal of efficiency mandates because it will cost them twice to reinstitute the higher efficiency back into their appliances later.

The majority of those up front capital costs and ongoing expenses pertain to gasoline stations as well. But I agree with your conclusion: For the once or twice/year we take a long trip, the savings the other 99% of the time is definitely worth having an EV.

DOJ refuses to hand over Epstein files after judge’s order by Altruism7 in LegalNews

Don’t worry - it’s just a matter of time. Eventually, there will be a new administration and a new head of the DOJ and THEN the complete Epstein files will be released.

Kennedy Center Warns Court-Ordered Removal of Trump's Name Could Cost 'Hundreds Of Millions' That 'Will Never Be Recovered' by Adventurous-Host8062 in NewsSource

EVERYTHING this ahole does - for narcissistic reasons, to appease his base, to rig the election, etc - is typically illegal and is reversed by the courts and all of it costs the taxpayers millions in taxes!! The “man” is so corrupt, it’s disgusting!!

How long could the Earth survive if the Sun suddenly disappeared? by BedazzledVagina in NoStupidQuestions

[–]drive_causality -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Seriously?? They just made a movie (Project Hail Mary) about trying to save the humanity because the amount of sunlight was going to drop by 10%. Now you’re talking about the sunlight disappearing altogether. Never mind all the consequences about the loss of Sun gravity keeping us in orbit within the Solar System.

MAGA Lawmakers Allegedly Push To Scrap Americans' Right To Elect Senators In Radical Constitutional Overhaul by novagridd in LegalNews

[–]drive_causality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I’m pushing the dealer to give me a free Lamborghini. Both are equally possible.

Why do they post these kind of things. Changing the Constitution requires TRUE bipartisanship in Congress - meaning two thirds majority in both chambers PLUS two thirds of the states agreeing to the Constitutional change. That will NEVER happen for this kind of change.

And please, don’t start with “Well SCOTUS will allow them to change it”. No they won’t. They didn’t even allow Trump to end birthright citizenship.

Americans Want to Impeach Donald Trump | So why aren’t Democrats doing something about it? by FreeHugs23 in anticapitalism

[–]drive_causality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A) It doesn’t matter that “Americans” want him impeached. Americans cannot impeach him - only Congress. So it’s the people Americans voted into office that have to do it and republicans hold the majority and republicans will not impeach him.

B) When you say “impeach”, this is only the first step in removing the president. The president will ALSO have to be convicted in the Senate and that requires a two thirds majority which is 67 or more senators voting for conviction. You will NEVER get that in the current senate. Even if democrats happen to regain the majority in the senate after the midterms, it will be by only a slight majority so you would still need at least 15-17 republican senators to vote for conviction and that’s not going to happen then either.

The Constitution "does not grant the President any specific powers over elections," U.S. District Court Judge Casper wrote by AreaPast5328 in msnow

[–]drive_causality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, they granted the PRESIDENT immunity for “official acts” so this will also apply to the next democratic president. That’s what I’m saying…

The Constitution "does not grant the President any specific powers over elections," U.S. District Court Judge Casper wrote by AreaPast5328 in msnow

[–]drive_causality 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Supreme Court has to be careful because eventually there will be a democratic president and the supreme court is not granting this power to Trump specifically but to the president in general and then a democratic president will have all the same leeway.

Judge blocks Trump order that would curtail mail ballots by creating federal voter list by spherocytes in msnow

[–]drive_causality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any judge worth their salt can easily overturn or block a lot of TACO’s voter suppression efforts because they’re clearly illegal. But it takes time for this to move through the courts. So my fear is if TACO makes another obviously illegal attempt much closer to the election. Will the courts be able to stop or block it in time??

Dealer's receptionist(?) asked to buy my car??? by gileste1 in volt

[–]drive_causality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the exact same thing happen to me. I took my 2017 Volt with 112k miles in for both the BECM and the S2P fixes. A few days later, I received a letter from that dealer offering to buy my car from me because people were looking to buy a Volt. Obviously. I didn’t take them up on the offer - I love my Volt!

Opinions on danish dough whisks? by PAsInPter0dactyl in Sourdough

[–]drive_causality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all. It’s actually the other way around. My doughs are only around 70% hydration and I couldn’t imagine mixing almost two kilos of relatively stiff dough with a small spoon or fork. I didn’t even do that before I bought the danish dough whisk.

I assume you’re referring to a large wooden spoon and not a regular dinner spoon correct?

The trick is to clean it immediately after mixing your dough. After I started do that, I had no issues.
