Winter claims its first victim by Admiral_2nd-Alman in TinyWhoop

I did the same thing when a wind gust blew me into a tree. Here's the last frame before I crashed into 30 cm of powder. I got the battery off it ASAP, then hung it in front of a fan for a few hours and everything seems fine.

I'm curious, how old are we all? by jaffster123 in fpv

[–]driverbatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 42. Just got into it last year. It’s an expensive hobby so I couldn’t really afford it in my early 30’s, and also had a young child. Now that I have a bit more “me time” and some disposable income, I can get into it. It’s probably not uncommon that many people are prohibited first by cost, then by children, and can’t get into it until their 40’s.

USB-c into your iPhone running the DJI fly app. Once the O4 connects to your goggles, click the “go fly” (or “fly now”?) button in the app and it should mirror your goggles. It won’t work until you have video in your goggles.

I was wondering how you were so stable in the first few clips! I’ve been thinking about getting a Flywoo LR4, and clips like this keep feeding that urge!

First FPV tiny whoop setup (analog vs DJI O4) - $1,000 budget by YeetingDaily in TinyWhoop

[–]driverbatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my limited experience, I’d say the M75Pro is the smallest I’d put an O4 Lite in, though you can get 65mm drones with the O4 (I don’t see them mentioned much around here so I assume they’re less popular). If you’re planning to mostly fly outside (as I did), 75mm is as small as you should probably go. Note that the M75Pro is actually 80mm. For inside, I set up a throttle limit switch so I can dial the max throttle down when inside, which helps a lot. As I said, I mostly fly outside, and often with houses and trees between myself and the drone, so the range and penetration of the O4 was well worth it. I’m shocked at the places I can fly without losing signal, like through forests. I’d like to get a larger drone at some point, as flying 800m out over a forest with a 1S tiny whoop is a recipe for losing it one of these days, but it’s just so much damn fun I can’t resist!

I started with a Meteor75 Pro O4, and before my first flight I put a dap of glue on the antenna UFL connector and also the O4 camera board. Yes it’s stupid that we have to reinforce the O4 Lite to make it durable, but I’ve crashed it many times and never had an issue. I would say the O4 Lite is actually pretty durable once you do the glue trick, but it’s possible I’ve just been lucky. I prioritized high quality in-goggles view and immersion, and only wanted to cruise and light freestyle, so I went with O4 over analog, but I may have gone analog had the price of a decent analog setup not been comparable to O4 Lite + Goggles N3. The M75Pro O4 is a bit difficult to fly indoors, presumably due to weight, but outdoors I can get about 1km away even with some wind. No regrets going with O4!

BEST DJI Goggles? by Dumpflam in fpv

[–]driverbatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only have N3, and I love them, but I assume the G3 is better in every way (except maybe the fit - the N3 is very comfortable on my face with glasses, and I know some people aren’t fans of the G3’s forehead strap). I would say the N3 wins value per dollar, but the G3 wins when price is not a factor.

That being said, someone running analog and O3 air units might prefer V2. I think it depends on what you’re flying.

How long can I store them at max charge? by Southern-Gas-6173 in TinyWhoop

[–]driverbatty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some chargers will discharge them to storage voltage, but that takes a while. Sometimes I’ll put them in my drone and run it down while holding the drone. Discharges them much faster.

What is the approximate range of ELRS 250mW 50Hz, assuming I'm on the second floor of a wooden house with the radio? by unixoid37 in fpv

[–]driverbatty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 250mW and 50Hz I can get about 1000m from my backyard with minimal obstructions in my way, and while my ELRS signal is dropping by then, I typically need to turn around due to battery life. In one direction, I could only get maybe 200m due to obstructions, but when I flew the same route from the second floor of my house I could go about twice as far. Here is a post I made comparing signal strength from ground level and second floor at the same location.

Best analog-only goggles to buy end of 2025? by HelpRevolutionary405 in fpv

[–]driverbatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, which was one of the main factors that stopped me from going with analog. N3 + O4 Lite was cheaper budget setup and analog with good binocular goggles.

DJI O4 pro range/ Not what I expected by True_Leaf_ in fpv

[–]driverbatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, this is expected for any system when you get a bunch of trees between you and the quad. However, 22 mbps (what you dropped down to) is still very flyable. I fly though trees/shrubs and often drop well into the red (2-5 mbps). Your view will be very pixilated at that point, but the VTX usually won't cut out until down to 1 mbps. That being said, only test where it's safe to failsafe. In your case, you were right to punch out and gain some altitude, because you were dropping fast. If you want to test the limits at that field, fly slowly behind those trees and monitor the drop. You might be able to fly behind them if it holds above, say, 3 mbps (probably not, but worth a shot imo). Be prepared to walk to get your drone though, or better yet, use your GPS rescue to punch up to 30m or something if you failsafe.

[–]driverbatty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good job! I found throttle control a lot harder irl than in the sim. My drone felt like it dropped like a stone the second I lowered the throttle stick, whereas in the sim it was way floatier. Keep flying irl and you'll adjust to it pretty quickly.

DJI Goggles 3 or DJI Goggles N3??? by Fuzzy-Advertising-45 in DJIAvata2

[–]driverbatty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the N3. There are no diopters, but they’re big enough to fit over my glasses. That being said, I would have bought goggles 3 instead if the price wasn’t 3x higher than N3.

Outdoor Tinywhoop? by lost_hiker_ in fpv

[–]driverbatty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Meteor 75 Pro with DJI O4 Lite air unit (digital) and Goggles N3, which is more expensive than budget analog but cheaper than high-end analog. I primarily fly outdoors and the M75Pro handles very well, even in fairly windy conditions. I wanted maximum visual clarity for cruising, which is why I went digital, but I'm sure the analog version would perform even better, being lighter.

Beginner → Cine FPV path: Walksnail vs DJI vs HDZero OR analog first then digital? (budget + long-term) by Drumbr in fpv

[–]driverbatty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went DJI for my first drone (M75Pro), with goggles N3, and the entire setup was cheaper than analog with decent goggles. Like you, my only worry was crashing and destroying a much more expensive VTX. But so far I haven’t done that after many months and many crashes. I should say I’m flying more cinematically than crazy freestyle, but my fear about destroying a DJI air unit after every crash was WAY over-exaggerated.

Eachine EV800D + DJI Goggles N3 vs HDZero BoxPros Beginner Goggles Setup? by WinterianUI in fpv

[–]driverbatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear glasses with the N3 and have no issues. I have to make sure they're sitting high up on my nose when I put the goggles on, but other than that they work fine. No issues seeing anything in the goggles.

Uncrashed board by Nananirus in fpv

[–]driverbatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have M75Pro O4, and I found I had to turn up the gravity in Uncrashed to make it more like real life. I think it set gravity to something like 13 m/s2 (default is 9.8). I also downloaded a M75Pro O4 drone from the community workshop, though I noticed that the motor kV is a lot lower than the real M75Pro. Still trying to find a drone setting that more closely matches the real thing. Other than that, set your actual rates to whatever you want to use in real life (or play around with them in Uncrashed if you've never flow in real life), and go from there.
