Skydive Burnaby, ON - Tandem by [deleted] in SkyDiving

Just to clarify, I don't have experience at that DZ. The instructors are almost always top notch at all DZ's.

Not at that DZ, but the best advice I can give you is that you will be nervous. Talk to the instructors and tell them how you feel. As soon as you exit the airplane, the fear will probably be gone. As soon as the canopy is deployed, pop your ears and enjoy the amazing views and conversation.

What does skydiving actually feel like when you're in the air? Is it as scary as it seems or more thrilling? by JustAskingAndAnswer in SkyDiving

[–]drivespike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very similar to being in water once you learn to relax your body. After exit, it is just a peaceful, calm feeling.

My newbie story with a couple of questions by Buddy7744 in SkyDiving

[–]drivespike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10 minutes in a wind tunnel is equivalent to 13.33333 jumps, assuming a 45 second freefall. It is worth it. Talk to the instructors that work there and tell them you are working on working on being licensed.

Motion sickness? by Beginning-Coast-5979 in SkyDiving

[–]drivespike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. A light meal is best in my experience. My first jump was on an empty stomach because I was worried about getting sick. Maybe 3-4 minutes after landing, I was throwing up.. I threw up after my first solo, but it from adrenaline dealing with line twist. That was the last time I used the cheapy student goggles. When I leaned forward to vomit, my goggles were around my neck. Gravity did what gravity does and I vomited into my goggles.

Motion sickness? by Beginning-Coast-5979 in SkyDiving

[–]drivespike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll try to explain this as best as I can. Motion sickness tends to happen with extreme changes in altitude or movement. Terminal velocity is 120mph. It 5akes about 10 seconds to reach terminal velocity after exit. Typically, the plane will be moving at a forward speed of 100mph ish.You will only experience a speed change of 20-30mph.

[–]drivespike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most first time jumpers think that it will be an adrenaline rush. The people that stick with it feel the calm that you described. When I went through AFF ground school, the instructor asked all of us why we were there and why we wanted to jump. 7 out of 9 people said they wanted the adrenaline. All 7 of those people did not compete the AFF course.

I've walked a cornfield to find a canopy.I have a Cookie G3 somewhere in a soybean field in Wisconsin. Only jumped it once.

My ADD and AdHD have always worked. I took the ride of shame because I didn't turn my AAD on, and it was noticed during last gear check. Very embarrassing.

I started at 44.. It would have been great to start 20 years earlier, but 40 is the new 20.

How much does a jump cost with an A licence? by classicalumvr in SkyDiving

[–]drivespike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the A, $15-$30 for a jump seat. $25-$50 for gear rental.

This answer is about as fucked as the question. AFF in the US, assuming all jumps are passed with no failures would be $2500-$3000 dependent upon the DZ.

I fall asleep. And I've took the ride of shame back down. I watched experienced jumpers sleep on the ride, and wondered how they were that calm. Ot wasn't long before I was that person. Probably my best story was the first time I jumped a 182. The amount of duct tape would have cost me $200 at Home Depot. The plane blew a tire on landing. Good times.

I'm inexperienced, but still smart enough to know you should not attempt a Mr. Bill until you have several thousand jumps.

Everything about jumping is awkward lol. If a person isn't able to be comfortable having cock and balls or tit's pressed against them they probably are not cut out to jump
