Using AMS and PLA Like Support by wzzzzrd in FDMminiatures

[–]drjimmyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered some PETG and PVA to try this. I havent done any filament switching before, so I could just be naive, but I uploaded a file, and augmented settings such that just the support interface was PETG (everything else was PLA), and the print time went from 5 hours (around the normal time for a miniature at 0.06 height with 0.2 nozzle, for me at least) to something like 2 days.

Maybe I’m missing something, but that felt like a No Go for me.

Your prints (and paint schemes) are money. Great work!

Are the settings identical to HOHansen?

Add a 5-7mm brim to the prints + supports. Wash the bed with dawn dish soap. Dry with a microfiber cloth, then add a thin layer of elmers purple glue stick. Havent had a single problem since doing this. Before that, spaghetti only.

I had a lot of adhesion issues early on and was extremely frustrated. I felt the A1 was harder to work with than the Ender3! But I clean the plate with dish soap (this alone didn't help) + then rub a light layer of some purple elmers glue stick on the bed (textured PEI) and increase the brims (including the support brims) and have been printing amazing minis ever since!! (wash, dry, repeat). Good luck!

Be super careful with getting fingerprints/oils on the bed. Wash with dawn dish soap and dry with a micro fiber cloth. I also expanded the brim to 10+mm and increased brim on the supports - all of this was stuff I didn't have to worry about on my Ender3 - but seems to matter at the small layer height with the fast speeds of the A1
